  1. Can anyone suggest some inexpensive hotels or B'n'Bs in Sheffield, my wife and I are thinking of coming to Sheffield next month and we need somewhere to stay for one or two nights and money is at a premium.
  2. Thanks, that's much better and more accurate. I must come over more. I'll be there in June for my birthday and to visit my kids, maybe they'll buy me some spice!
  3. Yes, that's it, Granellis. It's Broad Street, not Duke Street. I've been away too long!
  4. It's opposite the swimming baths at the bottom of Commercial Street. Duke Street is the continuation of City Road as you come down into town. http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|duke%20street%20sheffield#map=53.32295,-1.36238|17|4&loc=GB:53.32295:-1.36238:17|duke%20street%20sheffield|Duke%20Street,%20Sheffield,%20South%20Yorkshire,%20England,%20S20%205 Here's a map.
  5. I was in Sheffield two weeks ago and my daughter took me to a fantastic sweet shop at the bottom of Duke Street. As anyone been there? It's brilliant! It's run by Cassinellis.
  6. Is it possible to buy sarsaparilla and dandelion and burdock in Sheffield?
  7. When I'm in Sheffield, Russian Square sold in Cooplands.
  8. The full title of the hospital on West Street was The Queen's Royal Hospital.
  9. I say, send all your 1p pieces to me and I'll put them in the bank!!
  10. Sticky stuff remover is brill!
  11. Can anyone help me? Got a question regarding the new bus passes. Do anyone know if it is possible to get on a bus in Wigan and go all the way to Sheffield?
  12. I went there in the 50s and saw some of the ruins before they crumbled altogether. Try looking on Google Earth or Flash Earth and you can look almost straight down the plugholes.
  13. I went in the 70s with my first wife and she fell down and so did my mate's girlfriend. I loved it especially after trying to roller skate for years as a kid and never succeeding.
  14. Does anyone remember The Ocelot Cafe? The alternate name was Felis Pardalis. It was near Bramall Lane and they made cooked the best rare steaks in Sheffield. Pete Stringfellow was always in there.
  15. There must be loads of stuff in people's attics, sideboards and etc which is not on any record but may be of help members on the forum
  16. Boy, does this thread bring back memories... 'Memories'. I remember a bloke on the door at some club who woudn't let us in unless we paid admission, even though we were the act! Club drummers who were ab-so-lute-ly crap. Chairmen who would shout at the audience to 'GIVE ORDER PLEEESE' while you were struggling through a 'bad salad' (sad ballad). Yes the dreaded volume metre which would cut you off if you went over a few decibles. My band decide to play them at their own game and turned down until all you could hear was the cash register behind the bar. We started out as The Harlem Nocturnes, then the Nocturnes, then Who's Who, and didn't we have some fun with that name and con secs.
  17. I tried that and I don't know which ward covers Hackenthorpe. My son lives on Occupation Lane but I moved to Wigan 15 years ago so I'm a bit out of touch.
  18. Can anyone tell me who the councillor is for those living in Hackenthorpe area?
  19. Thanks for the two positive replies. Maybe I should put my son's e-mail address on. He can then answer any questions about the dog himself. mark.fisher70<at>tiscali.co.uk Feel free to contact him if you can help.
  20. It's not just the space, there will be a baby in close proximity to a dog, which is not always a good thing. Who knows what reaction the dog will have to a newcomer in the home, especially with such cramped conditions? Also, my son's wife is an extreme diabetic, and will have enough problems just looking after the baby and herself. Is it worth the risks involved?
  21. They are council tenants and are on the waiting list for a house, but have been told they have no chance for at least 18 months.
  22. He's tried all the kennels in the area and he's on a waiting list for four. All the kennels are full.
  23. My son lives in Hackenthorpe and he's desparate to find a good home for his dog. It's a Staffy cross dog, two years old, and his wife is expecting in two weeks and she won't be able to look after the dog anymore. To add to this problem, they live in a one bedroom flat, so space is very limited. There will be barely enough room for them and the baby. If he can't find somewhere soon, his only alternative will be euthanasia. Can someone please help?
