  1. I paid line rental to Virgin I was only getting about 2 mbs from them & only if the wind was in the right direction. Virgin and BT told me they had no intention of enabling fibre in our area, whereas Digital Region Yorkshire did and why I'm with Origin. I'm paying the same as I did with Virgin, line rental 24/7 calls and broadband and I'm getting 7+ megs up and about 24 down http://www.speedtest.net/result/2457262306.png
  2. I'm pleased that you've found a cheaper option, would you mind sharing it with us
  3. The easiest way is to check out http://www.origin-broadband.co.uk/ click on the package you're interested in, the phone line is £14.60 a month with free evening and weekend calls (BT £15.45 without) Also click on availability and you can see if you can get it I checked them all out before going with Origin, although I wouldn't have gone with BT if they'd been 1/2 the price
  4. I had a bt line but paid virgin for the rental, the phone line is fibre optic to the green box, then they used my original copper phone cable to the house. Origin supply the fibre optic to the cabinet and use the bt line to the house Or I have 200 yards of copper rather than 5 or 6 miles Paul
  5. I took origins intro package but it gives me enough to watch youtube films without buffering & I can download films from sky in minutes rather than hours Paul
  6. I asked the same question to bt, plusnet and virgin about fibre optic, they wouldn't be putting it into my area But I explained to the chap from plusnet that I have a fibre cabinet on my street, he told me to look on this forum for details on Digital Region South Yorkshire. I phoned Origin and now have fibre from Origin Can't believe it has been available for so long without anyone saying anything
  7. I went with Origin just before christmas although we had an initial hick up, they were easy to get in contact with and talked me through it. I'm getting about 23mbps down & about 7mbps up with there "Ignition package" I was lucky to get 2mbps before so I'm well pleased Ps I'm in south yorks
  8. I've just joined so be gentle, I found out last week that we can get fibre I've phoned bt & virgin (copper) several times asking when we will be able to get fibre from our new green box, they have no intention of enabling it. Last week I found out by accident about digital region s yorks, when I phoned plus net to ask if they knew when it would be live. I'm now trying to find a supplier. I've asked my neighbours if they are using fibre and who they're with, they all said the same..asked bt etc and its not available in our area I think its force of habit with our council, they like to keep quite on where our money's going. I'm going to have a ring round for a supplier tomorrow Paul
