  1. This is a big problem as well outside the York pub in Broomhill, there can be a many as eight taxis parked on the double yellow lines just before the traffic lights, they cause mayhem, and aren't the slightest bit bothered. When they do decide to move they just do a U turn in the middle of the road. Something urgently needs to be done about taxi drivers in Sheffield.
  2. You forgot the bit where there was a head on crash on the A47 Rivelin/Hollow Meadows. As far as I know the A47 is somewhere in Norfolk
  3. Where are their parents whilst they are doing all this Surely the parents should be brought to task for allowing their children to act like this. If someone retaliated and hit the kids the parents would be the first to kick up a fuss .
  4. Well Amey amended their signs, saying they would be back on the 6th August, and guess what - no sign of them, suppose they will be coming round tippexing the date out again and amending it again. We can only hope !
  5. I agree with Jon26, I don't mind the inconvenience but I would like to see them finish a job they started. They have now altered the yellow signs they are starting again on the 6th August which is a Thursday, I presume they wont be working the week end, so that is another two days. Its going to take a long time to get it done if they are only working two days at a time. And as for contacting Amey, my blood pressure couldn't take it.
  6. I got quite enthusiastic when I saw the yellow signs go up on the lamp posts saying they were doing highway improvement work from the 27th july for five days. Anyway there they were on Monday, doing the pavements, was quite disappointed, but thought at least they are here. Tuesday they were here doing some more of the pavements from Heavygate up. Wednesday came, no Amey, same Thursday same today. That is the five days up. So for all the yellow signs and disruption, they have done about 500 yards of pavement. Don't suppose anyone knows when they will be back?
  7. Seems like it was even worse today, people were queueing right up the hill towards Brook Hill Roundabout, and more were arriving by the minute. Looks like it might have taken a lot longer to get in today, the act was starting before any of the queue had moved.
  8. Don't forget the hills, just as dangerous going down, as trying to go up. Unless you are a dedicated cyclist, and not just a bike rider, Sheffield is terrible for cycling (in my opinion)
  9. So if I have my vehicle parked on the road, but don't use it, according to your reply (hyper) I don't have to pay whatever it is called to have it parked on a road. By the way I don't think I am uneducated because I don't know what to call the money I pay to the DVLA .
  10. If we motorists pay a tax to have our vehicles on the road, what exactly should we call it?
  11. They have their prices displayed now on an A board just as you go in, they are the cheapest I have seen £1.19 for diesel.
  12. Doesn't sound good then, I will get some ant powder and sprinkle it round the outside of the plants.
  13. Tesco for one do it quite often, I always check my receipt before I leave the shop and if I find I have been charged a price that doesn't match the ticket under it I will complain. Usually they check and tell you it was a mistake, sometimes they refund twice the difference. So yes supermarket are doing all the time
  14. I have planted some strawberry plants on a raised frame, I have put copper wire round the legs to stop the slugs getting to them. I have now realised that there are quite a few ants running round the plants. Will they destroy the plants, or are they harmless to them? Last year I had ants on my sunflowers and they completely destroyed them, that is why I am wanting to know. Thanks
  15. I wear extra layers when its really cold, but I still find I need the heating on because my hands and nose are so cold, cant keep them warm with jumpers. Never have the heating on in the morning.
  16. We have had ours on most nights. It has been so cold Monday night the temp dropped to 2.7c That is winter cold.
  17. You could try Sheffield auction House, just off Chesterfield Road. They might be able to tell you
  18. I quite agree with some of the posters about the trees, ie the damage the roots cause, the leaves blocking drains etc. Why don't the people who are complaining get together and ask the council if they can take over the responsibility for the trees, and look after them, make sure the roots aren't causing damage, clearing the fallen leaves, everything that needs to be done to make sure the trees are safe, including taking insurance out to cover any damage caused by such trees. People think trees are everlasting but they are not. Sheffield has got thousands of trees, and surely cutting a few down wont make a difference to the air pollution.
  19. I am not really into politics, I think once a party gets elected, they are too busy back biting and playing "he did this and he did that" like children in a playground. Nothing ever seems to change for ordinary working class people like us. Doesn't matter which party gets in. Just a thought if anyone could explain, if its a hung election, why cant the Conservatives and Labour form a government, they are all here to serve the voting public, and could combine their policies, for the good of the public. Just a thought
  20. I can't see the point of it really, the traffic flowed quite well the way it was, does anyone know why exactly they have done this. Like another poster said, it does look a bit tight for two way traffic.
  21. I got a good one from T J Hughes. It has lasted quite some time as well..
  22. I see we are all voting labour again. People in Sheffield never learn. I know its Government elections, and not Council, but even so. What qualifications does Oliver Coppard have to make decisions that involve billions of pounds of taxpayers money. Its ok saying he lives in Sheffield, and he hopes to make a difference, (don't they all) I think its the lure of the big salary and open ended expenses accounts that makes them want to be MP's I may be cynical, but that's just me.
  23. Will you be wanting cycle lanes, say, up Rutland Road, Walkley Lane, Jenkin Road or any other such hills in Sheffield.. This is the trouble with Sheffield, you are either going up a hill or down a hill (which is equally dangerous) there are very few flat areas of roads where you can just go for a leisurely ride. Cycling in Sheffield in my opinion is for dedicated cyclists, no just bike riders
  24. This is very true Muddy Coffee I am of a generation where we were taught road safety. Today young people haven't got a clue. I was coming out of Asda the other day and a young lad with earphones in and looking at his phone stepped straight out on to the zebra crossing without looking up, luckily I was only doing about 5mph so could stop, I was on the actual crossing when he stepped out. Zebra crossings are not a good idea for todays generation because they haven't been told how to use them,
  25. But PT he is not the Bard of Avon, I think that is what the OP was saying.
