  1. My 12 year old female dachshund gets these several times a year. I have no clue what causes them. I live in Mexico and our roads are dirt so it's possible she gets her foot infected by various means. In any case, she is normally treated with amoxicillin liquid 2 ml every 12 hours for 5-7 days but the last time this happened, I remembered honey and put a glob of raw honey directly on the lesion, and covered it with a cotton fabric 'sock.' I repeated this 3x a day and by 48 hours after I first noticed it, it was gone! That is my treatment of choice from now on along with the antibiotics. (I always keep a supply of antibiotics in the house since these can pop up at any time and we don't have emergency clinics here and I'd hate for her to suffer.) Curiously my male dachshund never gets these - go figure.
