  1. She probably feels more secure with you for whatever reason. Get him to spend time with her building up trust, feeding treats. At first he should sit outside on the pavement with her and offer fuss and chicken treats. The next day and using the above get her to go to the end of the street with him and again sit down and offer treats/fuss before going home. Gradually build this up over a few days until she trusts him and wants to walk with him. At this age she shouldn't really be walking more than 15-20 minutes anyway. Hope this helps and enjoy your puppy x
  2. So this is a controversial topic for some people. Wheels can be good when you have paralysed hindlimbs but my concern would be that this would be a painful experience for your dog as she is obviously suffering a lot with her hips already. Do you have a definite diagnosis of hip dysplasia from your vet or is there any chance that it could be CDRM? Perhaps a chat with a trusted vet to ensure they think this will not give her any further discomfort? If approved then I have heard good things about this website. http://www.dogswheels.com You do your own measuring and they send you fitting instructions etc. I don't know what other things you are doing for management but hydrotherapy is a must in these old GSDs. Keeps their back ends muscled and strong so there is better support of the old creaky joints. And obviously a good veterinary anti-inflammatory is essential. Good luck anyway with your old girl x
  3. Well you could allow them to breed and contribute to the already way above national average of cats without homes in sheffield statistic? There is a serious amount of overbreeding and stray cats in the area. Be responsible and a true cat lover by making a long term difference and stopping them producing yet more unwanted kittens.
  4. Found make golden Labrador. Chipped but not answering phone S6/s5 area Please call 01142334673
  5. I would recommend Nicola Jennings who is a qualified veterinary behaviourist. She works at Abbeymoor Vets.
  6. Dear all On Sunday 15th May the annual Penistone Boundary Walk will be held. It is a beautiful waymarked 16 mile walk around Penistone. The walk starts at Cubley Hall, Penistone from 9am. The cost is £5 and includes a map, a half way pit stop, a commemorative badge and a free drink at Cubley Hall afterwards. An 8 mile option is also available with transport to bring you back to Cubley Hall for your car. All proceeds go to Woodhead Mountain Rescue - a very worthy cause!! Dogs are welcome but must be leaded in the usual places eg livestock grazing. For further enquiries or to register please email [email protected]. You are more than welcome to register on the day too. https://www.facebook.com/BoundaryWalk1/?fref=ts
  7. I don't think anyone was saying don't get a Dalmation? This is a really friendly pet section where people just like to chat and offer helpful hints. I think people were just pointing out the difference between the two breeds you highlighted. Anyway I have hopefully attached a link to the kennel club website where you can view available puppies and find out anything else you want to know about hereditary problems etc for all types of dogs. Good luck in your search and make sure you share a picture of the new arrival! http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/findapuppy/Default.aspx?id=4087
  8. It might need suturing and it will certainly need some pain relief so definitely go to the vets!! Poor cat!!
  9. It is usual practice to pay a bill of any kind upon completion of the work done. I have never heard of a vet issuing invoices unless it is a farm/equine client with a business account. Did you not discuss the bill or payment at all between Thursday and this morning? I understand that in an emergency you would have rushed in but surely some discussion about fees etc took place? Regarding direct claims, a lot of vets worry about doing them due to the fact that people do unfortunately lie about being insured to get treatment performed. Perhaps if you offer to attend with photo ID (after all they don't know you), proof of address, insurance policy documents and proof that you are paying a monthly direct debit then this will be acceptable. You will still need to settle your excess today plus anything not covered by your policy. On a final note legally they cannot keep your dog unless there is a welfare issue. It doesnt sound like this particular aspect of your pets care is being handled very well but I would try to focus on the fact that a good job has been done and try to resolve the issue by doing the above
  10. You are wrong on many counts. Cats will happily drink antifreeze and they do have a sweet tooth. Unfortunately antifreeze does not have an added bitterant although there have been campaigns recently to make it mandatory non have been successful yet
  11. I am afraid it is a little bit late for a repellent. You can only use that BEFORE they have fleas. If they already have them you will need to use chemicals on both dogs and in the house...and do it quickly!! Each female flea lays up to 50 eggs a day which drop off into your house and hatch over the next few weeks/months/years. I like Stronghold spot-on and Indorex house spray. Good luck!
  12. It means if your dogs vaccines are out of date (eg overdue) then you can have them restarted (both injections) for the price of a booster. It absolutely does not mean you can buy a vaccination that has gone past its use by date!!
  13. You don't mention how long your little cat has been buried for? Time will determine how much of your beloved pet is left alongside what you buried her/him in? Is it because you are moving that you wish to exhume? Or just a worry about foxes etc? If you are worried about the possibility of another animal digging there then I would suggest a tree or large plant over the top. If your heart is truly set on exhumation then you could try emailing Sheffield Pet Crematorium at Hollow Meadows to ask if they can help? It may not be the first request they have had to carry this out. Failing that I would ask a trusted family member or friend to do this for you. Use a hand trowel not a garden spade and transfer the remains into a heavy duty plastic garden sack (maybe double this up) and seal with duct tape immediately. Hope this helps
  14. For any Marty McFly fans there is a special trilogy showing at Penistone Paramount tomorrow (Saturday 6th). It starts at 12.30pm and there will be an interval between each film. There is a bar (reasonably priced) and the usual ice-creams, popcorn etc. Details below. Tickets £10 for the whole thing http://www.penistoneparamount.co.uk/liveevents.php?cat=Films Penistone train station is less than 5 minutes walk and there is a direct train from Sheffield (the Huddersfield line) Enjoy!
