  3. more to do with integration alastair i think and wanting to by doing some things similiar to local culture (but without the religous connotations). it has happened more after 9/11 though i noticed. our local butchers started doing it about 3/4 years ago and another i know i think he soon followed too.
  4. my belly is much nicer and flatter than santas cos of Ramadhan and i do train a bit now, plus my beard is shorter. actually nothing like him then!! (perhaps i can do the hohoho bit)
  5. Muslims love stars. Their is a Surah in the Quran named Surah Najm (The Star) and its about the Pole Star **i think, memorys a bit sketchy** so i hoped he wouldnt have minded if he did see the star
  6. yes i remember that too. despicable thread it was...
  7. lol ta, and i havent even said ONCE DONT FOLLOW <snip>
  8. Girls, Read Shaykh HY Hansons excellent "Ceasarian Moon Births" which explains it perfectly. http://www.zaytuna.org/forms/Cesarean_Moon_Births_Pt_2.pdf In short its ok if some do tue or wed. As always the criticism of Islams main tenets not chaning is actually its strength. Every single community in every single spot of earth from thousands of years ago, upto now and inshAllah the future to come, wherever they are can apply this system and it will be right for that community. Their is no need for the Muslims of Japan to do same day Eid as people in UK or San Franscisco yes? Some people sight the moon by naked eye. Some people use astronomical charts. The Fiqh of Ramadhan (Islamic Law ruling) states if its cloudy, then on the 29th day of the fast - keep the 30th fast and day after is Eid. InshAllah thats what we are going to do. Its cloudy tonight isnt it? The moon isnt out either. However, some people will use internet, moon calculations, charts and a bit of paper on lunar timetables to say "no moon is out and theirfore its Eid". The correct position is the former as its the Sunnah. However Islam is big enough to cope with difference of opinion amongst its scholars and the layman is excused remember if the scholars differ slightly. Also someone may have seen the moon tonight, in some obscure spot on the UK but how is he going to effectively communicate it to the Muslims of the UK. For that you need an Amir (Leader) and elect one if you dont have one asap. We have one and he is doing all the moonsighting for us etc.... The final point remember is that the noble Prophet Muhammad (saw) said "Differences of opinion amongst my community are a Mercy from Allah". So in short: 1) Dont worry about it, Celebrate Eid. 2) Technically, using Islamic Law derived from the Quran and Sunnah, visual observation is the Sunnah and not charts/graphs etc... 3) However if someone does use charts/graphs and not naked moon sighting then inshAllah the Eid is valid as the judgement rests on the Amir(Leader) to decide. Allah knows best.
  9. let me know if u dont and im sure we can sort one out for you!
  10. lol must have been a sight IanG. Did you have the © beer belly and England top too
  11. Like trying to do a good roast yeh some of my Muslims freinds did the whole turkey thing so thats a fair comment!
  12. bizzle, i done that too and had lots of to and fro ing from my christian mates, at school i did the whole card and festivities thing, my comment btw was more on an ideological level. I personally would like to celebrate Prophet Jesus's birthday but as Muslims we dont know when it was. the whole 25th dec thing was invented by roman empire remember and that mithral sun god thing........not that i want to upset any of our christian friends. so thats why we dont. as for celebrating birthdays we celebrate Prophet Muhammads (peace be upon him) birthday, however mainly most Saudis dont due to their strict rigidness doctrines of Wahabism, but rest of the Muslim world do celebrate it and have been for centuries. hope that answers it
  13. and to you too bizzle. Eid Mubarak to all. Alastair and t'uthers: Eid is the celebration feast of 30 days of fasting in Ramadhan and involves 1) Lots of food 2) Lots of family 3) Lots of presents 4) Lots of partying and games 5) Seeing relatives you rarely see much but now and again Hope that explains it ps> as to point 2, it is well known that Ninjaman cant walk by about 7pm due to performing like mr creosote of said monthy python sketch - dont give him an after eight!
  14. No. We celebrate Jesus, peace be upon him, the man, not his birthday. At the risk of not trying to offend our Christian friends we dont actually beleive he was born on 25th December hence why we dont celebrate it.
