I definitely think Derby is a more pleasant city than Sheffield. Also but arguably far more critically, you get far better value in property in Derby than Sheffield. I never quite understood this as the average salary in Derby is far higher than Sheffield.

I am am going to hazard a guess that you currently live in the Eccelsbourne catchment area such as Allestree or Darley Abbey. These are very nice places to start with and it will be quite a challenge to find something similar in Sheffield

Of course it wont. Prices might be higher though.

As Sheffield has twice the population of Derby, although the average wage is lower, there will be more people earning above the average wage than in Derby- probably the reason for the (alleged) higher house prices in the better areas.

I don't think that applies when you're looking at the villages as far out as Aston to be honest.  Which to my understanding is nice enough.

Even nicer and in the same kind of vicinity, Harthill, Todwick, Ulley, maybe Whiston.  All good access to the M1.

Have you checked what the commute is like on the motorway to Nottingham though, I've done it before and my assessment would be dreadful.

It's a pretty awkward position you've got there if you both have to be in the office 5 days/week, Bradford and Nottingham, ouch.

Its also a hellish drive to Bradford using both the M1 and M62. Probably better off buying in Leeds and training it to Nottingham!

I suspect that Just Eat’s business model assumes that someone too lazy to go and buy their own takeaway probably wouldn’t bat an eyelid at paying £2.50 for someone else to do it.

Not necessarily lazy. Young kids in bed, cant drive, too drunk, disabled, too busy etc etc

  4. I'll get some stick for this but the M1 side of the city is not where the areas it sounds like you are looking for are sited. Generally- this has been said many times - if you look at the city on a map, the area between 7&10 o'clock houses the most desirable postcodes- S10,S11,S17 and close to. This is generally seen as where the 'professionals' live. Unfortunately for you, its the opposite side of town for the M1 & getting to & from the M1 at rush hour from the western suburbs isn't much fun, although I did it for a few years and you kind of get used to it.

The areas you have mentioned are OK,  but I wouldn't class them as suburbs of Sheffield and it might be pushing it to say they were 'middle class'.

Given that Sky News is this morning reporting that around 1 in 10 people put dirty nappies out with their recyclables, it could be that the 'pyoo' smell is coming from something more obvious.

    Seriously, what are people like?

To be fair, if you have 2 children in nappies generating say 70 nappies a  week - takes up a lot of space in the black bin- especially if you miss the fortnightly bin collection and have a months worth stored up! pooooooo

I rinse mine out using hot water, which softens the plastic enough to be able to roll it almost flat. If you then run cold water over it, the flattened shape keeps the new form, therefore taking less room in the bin.

The label asks to "check local recycling" as regards the top.

Have done, with (in my case) the Chesterfield authorities advising that the tops are not able to be recycled, and so are thrown in the ordinary bin.

I bet firing your boiler up to do this negates any environmental benefit of recycling the bottle!

Like the other middle eastern people's uprisings that happened (supported and backed by the US)? Look what happened after those.

Iran is a much more stable (advanced?) country than Libya or Syria

  8. Imagine the  environmental cost of putting Glastonbury (or any big festival) on..

All the infrastructure shipped to the site for 3 days, then shipped back

200,000 people driving to the site and back

1000's of acts jetting in from all around the world for a one hour set.

All for a bit of hedonistic entertainment for us selfish humans...

It would be interesting to know the carbon emissions one Glastonbury Festival creates...

    Amazing festival though!

If he had that good judgement he wouldn't have authorised it in the first place - remember he cancelled it after the planes were in the air. It sounds like Bolton/Pompeo convinced him he should launch a strike and calmer heads pointed out it was actually a really stupid idea and got him to stop it at the last moment.

Whether the whole thing was planned or not I think this is good tactics on Trumps part. It would certainly have got Irans leader sweating more than just a threat of possible action, and Trump comes out of it looking like he cares about Iranian lives.  Irans leader needs to be overthrown by the people of Iran who I gather arent happy with the regime  mainly because it is responsible for the sanctions that is causing mass hardship to the people.  The everyday Iranian would give up the nuclear program tomorrow  to get back to enjoying a good standard of living.

No it doesn't as evidenced by the fact that very highly educated people also swear. Steven Fry is very highly educated and loves swearing as do many others. I'm pretty well educated and I love a good swear. I'm careful about where I do so though.

My mum always says that only people with a limited vocabulary swear. There will be the odd exception to every rule though I suppose

Why not.Still relevant and on subject.Cars still belting round that bend far too fast and risking collisions with backed up traffic turning right to Hollins Lane or coming out of Walkley Bank Road.

Cant educate thickos with a speed limit sign. I was always taught not to drive at such a speed where you wouldnt be able to stop in the space of the clear road ahead of you.  On a bend the amount of clear road reduces- one reason any half decent drives slows down  for a corner.

The car embedded in the bushes the other day was a BMW. Need I say more 🤐

  12. I think the media sometimes try to persuade us something is popular (or otherwise) in order to try to make it popular (or otherwise). I suppose that is promotion disguised as news- misrepresenting the interests of everyday people.

I remember when One Direction split up we were bombarded with news of how Harry Styles was the next Robbie Williams. He even somehow got a heavily promoted one hour slot on the BBC at prime time despite having only released a couple of unmemorable songs. In this case the public didn't buy it and the media must have eventually realised it was flogging a dead horse. News of Harry suddenly all but disappeared.

Sometimes it seems a case of getting so called celebrities forced down our throats until we actually begin to think they are celebrities that we just hadnt realised were celebrities.

You get what you pay for with a wooden shed (although it sounds like you have neglected yours 😉)

They do need to be looked after. I paint mine with Wickes own shed and fence paint every two years, replaced the crap shed felt with real roofing felt and it stands on bricks so doesn’t sit in water during the rainy season.

It is now 21 years old and looks like new, 😀

Yea I inherited this one when I bought the house. Going by the 'improvements' the previous owners did to the house, the shed is bound to be a bargain basement job.

Which is why I want a metal shed. I don't have the time or inclination to be faffing around painting a shed every couple of years! 😉

  14. Most online shed suppliers provide an installation service on delivery as an optional extra.

I'm looking for a metal shed. They last forever (well some come with 20yr guarantee) and some look quite nice.  My 4 or 5 year old wooden shed has plants growing through the slats, the roof already leaks, is rotten and is ready for the skip.

the attacks on the tankers is "almost certainly" Iran, oh ok Jeremy thats good enough evidence to warrant an invasion on a sovereign country and years of yet another expensive war, lots of our own soldiers deaths, massacring of thousands of civillians, and terrorists back on our streets.

To get this brexit ******** done lets just become even more of a subservient 51st state of the almighty US of A sigh.

Rony Robinson is a bit of a pervert, only this week one of his topics was "When did you first tongue when kissing" come on what's wrong with the man, asking female presenters then asking listeners to phone in.

He claims he's a Sheffielder but pronounces Tongue, as TUNGUE , that's by the way, but he's full of sexual innuendos, anyone else would be told about it.

I agree he comes across as an old perv! Often talks about 'boobs' and sounds leery over female guests/colleagues
