  1. Hi, My aunt Audrey came out on the same ship as you in 67! She is now in Canberra - as I am now also. Been here since Sept 04 and I too have planned a trip back to Sheffield in 6 weeks - mainly to see family and freinds though - not the place.
  2. B****ds - good on yer mate . My mum lives on the Arbourthorne estate and there are plenty of chav scrotes there too. I am so glad I chose to leave - but others don't have the choice do they some times?
  3. Hey Skippy - good for you. I still pinch myself when I drive past the brindabellas on my way to work....I just love it here. I am having my citizenship ceremony on the 23rd Feb and that will be a bonus for me. I am heading back to Sheffield though over Easter to see the family - this may be the first and last time I ever visit - who knows:)
  4. Well said:thumbsup: - and I had a lot more than 10 pounds to pay - but wouldn't move back. I am due to visit in april this year - first time I have been back since coming out to Oz - going back to see family - not the place. Saying that - there are some nice places still left there - so it isn't all doom and gloom. Just a personal choice - and I chose here:)
  5. Hi, My son and daughter went there - around 1991 - 1995 Thomas now aged 19 and Amy now aged 17. Sarah
  6. Was wondering if this is the Eric Dyson that I may know. A long time ago though mind you and from the Arbourthorne area of Sheffield? Sarah
  7. Hi, I was born in Sheffield 2 on Craddock road, just off City road, moved around to Arbourthorne and then Bramall Lane, then Hackenthrope. Last move from there to Creswell, small mining village and then to Oz in 2004. I agree with a reward at the end, but I felt that working my B***cs off back in the UK just to line someone's pocket. No matter how hard you worked it didn't make much of a difference. My reward is my peace of mind and my free time to enjoy the things I do. I like to feel that I have achieved something and when I look back, I find that I have.
  8. Where in Sheffield are you? I look at each day here as a new day in my life. I am so lucky, I worked hard to get here but it was worth every minute. I work hard in the week but from 4 pm on Friday till Monday at 7.30 the time is all mine - and I can do whatever I want.
  9. I meant easier as in 'less stressful workwise' rather than as an easy way out. I think the more strings you have to your bow, the better. In the end it is your choice of job (if you are lucky enough) that presides over the salary on offer. By plane funny enough No serioulsy, lived in Sheffield for the majority of my life and always wanted to travel. Got sick and tired of the same old same old.....so here I am.
  10. Well said - I took the easy option too - better to be sane than in an early grave with stress. Doing a job that may pay more is not always the best thing for an individual. I speak from first hand experience:)
  11. Great stuff - thanks for the info - will inform son that he needs a water proof for attending the Lane and not to bother bringing a carrot for the snowman:D
  12. We have chavs here but we call them 'bogens' same sh*t different place
  13. yep sods law - ah well best not to leave it to chance.
  14. Turn away then:D or run for the hills and hibernate till it is safe to come back:)
  15. Yep - definately more details needed here:D
  16. I wonder what the odds are for a white Christmas this year. Does anyone think it is a promising prospect? My son is coming back to his hometown of Sheffield for Christmas and is hoping it snows, but wierdly enough, we had snow here yesterday! Weather seems all to **** I think.
  17. lol - I had 2 - one I said I would marry and the other I said I would have as a boy friend - at the same time mind you. I reckon I had it sorted at 6 -what do you think??
  18. OMG - I certainly do know you and your sis! How is it going mate? Canberra is fab! Life is good! How is Sheffield treating you? Send me a PM to swap email addys
  19. It can become very costly indeed - we emigrated to Oz 2 years ago and here is a brief list of things to consider:- visa appliation fee solcitors fee for verifying all original documents cost of medicals for whole family from panel doctor cost of skills assessment cost of shipping all furniture out cost of airfare for yourself and family cost of starting again - always stuff to buy that you couldn't ship - ie cars etc Sarah
  20. I googled and found it - looking for info and stuff about my birth place
  21. I love it - that is where I set up home - it is a beautiful place and nothing like a city at all. Best kept Ozzie secret ever - people don't tend to come to Canberra when they emigrate - they go to Perth Adelaide, Brisbane etc... Let them - that's what I say - keep it nice and quiet here in ACT:)
  22. Hi TWT Fancy meeting you in here - small world eh!!!
  23. well I liked it that much I stayed - here in Canberra (ACT) - it is god's country - that's for sure
  24. I recall Walt Clayton, He took over the Marples in the 80's and I worked for him. He married my best friend, after divorcing his first wife.
