  1. Credlands Varnish Manufacturers in Sheffied in the late 1800's early 1900's. Does anyone know about them? I am researching my family tree and they appear on census as in the varnish business. Thanks for any help. KayT
  2. Hello, I'm new to the forum and have just found this about Hackenthorpe. I know the chat started a long time ago but maybe somebody is still out there listening. I lived on Jermyn Avenue in the 60's and went to the infant, primary and grammar school at Birley Moor. The English teacher at the primary school was called Mr Mitchell. My best friend was called Linda Coupe. She could do the best bee-hive hair style you would ever see! Our house backed onto fields (I think they have been built on now) . My brother, me and his two friends used to play down there, build dens and play in the stream. We also went to the Roxy(?) cinema. Me and 3 boys!! Got some funny looks. KayT

I thought their youngest child was born in 1918. Fred(rick) and Sarah...............Fred(rick) could be the son of Frederick (Dob 1858) my GGrandad. In 1891 Frederick was a 'Jobbing Smith'. Fred(rick) - my GUncle - married Sarah Mcl Tait in 1915. This would tie in with a baptism in 1917. In 1913 Sarah was employed by the British Postal Service as a 'Type Sh..................(cannot read). Hope this helps.
