  1. Not sure if this is still true (or ever was true) but I remember reading on some other forum that for speed cameras or even speedbreaks to be installed on any road, there is a certain threshold of accidents that need to be reported (reported, not just occured) on that road, before any of these options is even considered. Disclaimer: I am happy to be corrrected if this is not true, as not everything you read online can be always accurate.
  2. Thanks, but that Thorntons store (like all others) is closed.
  3. Thanks, I ddn't know CardZone stocked Thorntons! I will give them a call tomorrow morning.
  4. I know Thorntons are now online only, but do any stores sell Thornton's Vanilla Fudge? Morrisons apparently stock them but there were none in stock when I went today. It's this item https://groceries.morrisons.com/products/thorntons-vanilla-fudge-591088011 I have a friend visiting who had some that I had at home and loved it, and wants to take a few bags home, but I am struggling to find any store that stocks them. Any help would be appreciated 😀
  5. I agree with this. I only know one person who has got hooked onto this in the last 2-3 years, and some of the main changes I have noticed in their behaviour have been: 1. Paranoia - They think the whole world is ganging up against them. 2. Megalomania - Delusions of their importance, and thinking they have the clarity of mind to see every situation clearly and know how to fix every problem (most of which don't exist!!) 3. Aggression - Picking a fight with everyone, and claiming they picked the fight to make the world a better place! And of course, the best one - going around suggesting everyone "try it once" because it is a wonder drug that can cure everything from pain, to insomnia to perhaps even global warming and world peace!
  6. Does anyone know if Tennis rackets are allowed to be taken as a part of "HandLuggage" on International flights?
  7. Having known a few people who have got caught out on the "No return for 2 hours" rule that many Parking Lots apply, I was wondering if the Parking Space on Bradfield Road (opposite the fuel station) enforces this rule? I had a quick read of the board and could not find it specified there. I know for sure that the B&M on Middlewood Road definitely has this for their Parking lot.
  8. Has anyone's bin actually been collected today?
  9. I was looking at train tickets for Manchester Airport, and noticed that all train journeys now involve at least one change. Are there no direct trains from Sheffield to Manchester Airport any more? There used to be direct trains a few years ago. Also happy to get any advice on the best way to get to Manchester Airport if my day of travel happens to be on one of the days of the probable strikes.
  10. How much would it cost approximately to install a battery AFTER you have installed the Solar panels? Is there a considerable difference between installing batteries at the same time, to installing it later? What occurred to me was - with the price caps introduced by the Government for the next 2 years, it may not be very beneficial to invest in batteries right now. But if things don't improve in the energy market even after 2 years, it may be beneficial at that time.
  11. Thanks, very informative post! Can your iBoost system work with a combi-boiler? Or does it only work with boilers that have storage tanks?
  12. How long have you had your solar panels, if I may ask? Also, have you been happy with your installer and would you recommend them?
  13. Is it not risky to get rid of the electricity meter? I can see the point about savings, but you are then betting on the fact that the solar energy you generate daily (plus your reserves in the battery) will always be more than what you consume. I am not challenging your suggestion, because it may well be the case that the battery may be large enough to store enough power to see you through a few days.
  14. I was considering the options of having Solar Panels installed on my roof, and was looking for any advice/tips/recommendations that anyone may have to offer. The questions that come to mind are: 1. Firstly, are they worth it? 2. Secondly, are there any installers well-known that most people tend to use? 3. Are brands that you should go for, or avoid? If anyone who does have them wants to share some of the things that I should look out for, something that I should avoid or perhaps even something that they wished they had/hadn't done when they installed theirs, that would be most helpful. Thanks in advance.
  15. Someone mentioned that medicines, even prescriptions, are frowned up byFrench customs. Does anyone know if I am okay to carry Over-The-Counter medicines like Ibuprofen, LemSip and Pain Reliever ointments? Extensive walking tends to give me pain in the evenings, and these can be helpful - if I am allowed to carry it along/
  16. One of my Bank accounts provides "Worldwide Travel Insurance" as a benefit for holding that account. That includes "Emergency Medical and Associated Expenses", as well as theft/loss of Baggage/Possessions. Would this suffice as "Medical Insurance" or do they expect a short-term policy that is specifically taken out for this trip?
  17. Thanks to all who have replied. It was really helpful. The m edical insurance part was not something that I was aware of, and I will get that sorted before I travel.
  18. We are planning to travel by Eurostar and were looking for some advice from anyone who has travelled recently. How long does immigration/customs normally take these days? We are travelling from St. Pancras, so it would be helpful to know if it is sufficient to be there an hour in advance, or if it takes longer than that. This is the first time we are travelling by Eurostar, so if anyone has any other advice to offer, please feel free to do so. Thanks in advance
  19. We were looking for a narrow leather recliner chair for the living room. Most of the leather recliner chairs that I have seen tend be about 90cms wide, which is too wide for the spot in our living room. If anyone has had a similar issue and come across any place that sells what I am looking for, kindly let me know.
  20. Thanks all, went to Halfords and got it all sorted for £21 (£16 for the plate, £5 for fitting) Professional job overall. Took off the original plate for size, prepared the new one which comes with a sticky side and that was then screwed on.
  21. Just had a look online, it's £16.25 now with an extra £5 for fitting, if needed.
  22. My car needs a new number plate. I am looking for suggestions of any place that replaces car number plates at a good price. Also, does anyone have an idea of how much these normally cost? An online search gives an unusually wide range of prices without actually explaining why the more expensive options are better, and they also give the option of "adhesive pads to fix the plates" or "drilling the plates". Any advice would be appreciated.
  23. I remember reading an article about this. If someone blocks your driveway when your car is parked on the driveway, that is illegal. The reasoning is - if you have an emergency (medical or otherwise) that requires you to use your car, the car that is preventing you from leaving in your car is causing a Health & Safety issue. On the other hand, if someone blocks your driveway when you need to park your car on the driveway, it is causing an inconvenience but not causing a Health & Safety issue as you can always park elsewhere and enter your house.
