  1. The Broughton is looking best. Seeing the pic brought back some happy memories back in 1971/72.
  2. Hi folks, can anyone remember the name of the pub that had discos on friday nights (maybe saturdays), the pub was on the left hand side of the main rotherham to sheffield road. It was sited where the roundanout is, near the Arena. Used to go there around 1971/1973. Got knocked down when Arena got built.
  3. Hi Folks I was there 1965-1969, left at 15. I can recall some of the names mentioned on this thread, seems like yesterday.. I play golf with Joe Lyons (geography teacher) a few times a year, who would have thought it!
  4. Can remember I had a table top football game. The players sat on the pitch and had a metal base. You moved them by means of a wooden stick with a small right angle at the end complete with magnet. Each player had two of these and tried to get their players to manoeuvre the ball into the opponents net. Can't remember the name of it.
  5. I was brought up in Tinsley late 50's through to late 60's. We were always in a smog, with Templeborough Rolling Mill down the road pushing out the orange dust from it's furnaces.
  6. I would suggest you contact Wilkinson Marketing. They specialize in developing start-up and small businesses. Very experienced and pragmatic. Well worth talking to.
  7. If you would like professional advice, contact Wilkinson Marketing - 0114 2699294. They are pragmetic marketers.
  8. Rotherprint are great for business cards. They will design them also if needed and only use 400gsm with matt lamination to both sides. If you want your business cards to stand out, they will augment them. If you are not aware of augmented reality you can check out their website - http://www.augmentedbusinesscards.com. I have some and the feedback has been terrific.
  9. I got 500 business cards, 400gsm with matt lamination for £39.00 plus vat from Rotherprint (rotherprint.co.uk). Even delivered them. Speak to Matt.
  10. In order to determine whether you are getting value for money you will need to eloborate more. You will no doubt be charged an annual fee for hosting your website, this will normally include setting up/maintaining email addresses. If you require mods to your web pages there may be a fixed price or by requirement. The company may be buying google adwords for you, ensuring you have a positive presence on the web in the geographical area you have requested. There will always someone who can or does, it cheaper. I would suggest you ascertain exactly what you are paying, what you get for your money and then talk to a local business who can fulfill your needs.
  11. Despite what the government says, we all know that ATOS are paid on results i.e. to get as many people off sickness benefit as they can. The 'Medical' is not a true medical as you would expect, it is an exercise designed to ignore your ailments/disabilities and ensure you give positive answers to leading questions. If you are suffering from any mental illness you are at at distinct disadvantage as you will no doubt not be in the right state of mind to cope with the session. If you showed that you did cope, this will be to your disadvantage as clearly you appear to be mentally fit. I understand that the govermenent are being challenged on this point in the courts. You should also be aware that the session does not start as you enter the 'doctor/nurse's room, your behaviour may well be monitored and noted from when you enter the building through to when you get in/on your transport home, dependant on your illness.
  12. Did you train in martial arts in the 70's/80's? What was your club called, where was it, who trained you? Any memorable characters? What grade did you make?
  13. I can't really call a CV or a covering letter as evidence of written communication skills. There are plenty of word processed templates that a user can fill in. My own handwriting is like that of a 10year old, but I have a masters degree. So a handwritten letter may not always reflective of the caliblre of person. My experience of younger jobseekers today is that they have difficulty in giving eye contact, holding a conversation etc. (Facebook has a lot to answer for) Their written cv's have been fine albeit all seem to follow a similar vein in presentation. Contacting potential employers is a numbers game, if someone is not in, ring the next perspective employer.
  14. First thing to do before she decides how to move forward, is to put her on your books. You may as well benefit from her tax allowance.
  15. As a small employer I gain a better impression of, and give credit to, someone who rings and asks if there are any vacancies, or calls in and asks. It is easy to send out lots cv's hoping some one will take note. Getting off their backside to call in or pick up the phone gives me a good idea of their motivation and communication skills. No matter what people have put on their cv, you only find out how good they are when they actually work for you. My advice is simple - talk to perspective employers, in person if you can, at least on the phone. Most jobs are not advertised, so it is a matter of timing. If someone you ring tells you they have nothing at the moment, keep in contact they may eventually have a vacancy. Tenacity is the key to job hunting.
