  1. goddamit the edit button just doesn't work fast enough on this thing! see you soon m8
  2. I think the real lesson we can all take away from this thread is:don't pit two clubs or styles against each other. It doesn't gain anything, everyone ends up falling out and most importantly, it probably put a looooadddd of forumistas off joining in martial arts. p.s gracie barra sucks!
  3. LOL please don't blame this on me. Read back through this thread, it is far more amusing and pointless than i ever could have predicted! You are so far off-topic the original topic is a small, blurry dot in the distance to you.
  4. I'm starting to hate the phrase aggressive posturing. What does it even mean?
  5. Lol you gotta love how fedor tears up the rule book. His chosen method for escaping the triangle choke: punch you in the face until you let go!
  6. My original post was a crude attempt at reverse psychology, i've rarely seen a post which puts two clubs head to head acheive anything but chaos.
  7. apologies troyhark. You are absolutely correct in a lot of what you have said.
  8. Troyhark, you are right about my post, but ironically your posts bore out my predictions.
  9. Prediction: This thread will end in aggressive posturing, with people who don't even train bjj chiming in. It will be largely unhelpful.
  10. Hey crayfish just wondered if you managed to find somewhere to train in manchester. How is it all going?
  11. Hey Chris, I have never trained there but Straight Blast Gym has a pedigree similar to Gracie Barra when it come to grappling and also run standup and clinch classes. I that any gym affiliated to them would suit your needs. I must also mention the gym that I train at when back in Stockport, Revolution Gym (RevolutionGym.co.uk), but I think it's probably too far out of the way for you. I'm sure I will see you before you go but if not, good luck with your course and see you soon
  12. Great post anvil! Think you've hit the nail on the head - self defence is a skill that you obtain from training martial arts but it is only one of the many things that you can gain from training - ultimately you are developing as a person. 'It especially intrigues me that the most effective arts (if we can trust cage fights as a measure of effectiveness) are the least popular for the average joe who might get picked on by muggers, bullies etc. Gyms that require heavy sparring tend to be 'survival of the fittest', picking off those who can't take the pressure in the first lesson, who then flock to less pressured but perhaps less effective arts.' I posted the above ageeeeeeeeees ago, anyone care to agree/disagree?
