  1. There's a chip in lightning cables that the phone authenticates before it decides to charge.
  2. You need to buy one that is 'certified' or it won't work on iOS 7 onwards.
  3. I'd jailbreak mine so I can use my old charging cables again. As of 7.02 my third party kit no longer works. In the meantime, anyone buying a lightning cable from anywhere should make sure it says 'certified' on it.
  4. I wrote the odd post when people mentioned they had issues with their WBC based service, with my last mention of it being on the third of April. On a few of these occasions I failed to read the posts properly and notice that it was a wider issue or router based - and was criticised for this at the time. Why are you still sticking the boot in five months later? Our company has grown considerably from nothing in the last 18 months because we fought to make as many people as possible aware that they could get a fibre service when they believed they could not. At times it felt like we were the only ones trying to tell people about this amazing network South Yorkshire had been given access to. We've been very successful from this venture and have a solid plan in place to maintain our growth. We're going nowhere. THANK YOU to the people who've supported Origin to get to where we are now. You've given us a solid platform to move forward from and we are going to employ as many local people as we can in the future thanks to this. In addition to broadband, one of our side projects is a data centre we've just opened in Sheffield. We expect to have that facility alone employing 6-10 skilled Sheffield workers by the end of next year and then we aim to open a bigger facility that will hire more people and generate more in taxes. I've said this before... if we can maintain the track we're on, this project will have allowed us the opportunity to provide a benefit to the South Yorkshire area for years to come.
  5. With the new gen apple devices having fingerprint sensors, I wonder if you'll be able to just leave an ipad on the wall with a check in app to work over your local network?? That'd probably be more expensive than the devices you've been looking at though.
  6. I always liked NOD32. I'm sure it was once regarded as one of the best. I go for AVG at home now though.
  7. The PS3 relies on an obsolete wireless standard called wireless 'g' If your router is set to 'n only' then it won't be able to connect. Speak to your ISP and they should walk you through how to change it if necessary. Also, if you're really unhappy with BT's customer service to the point where you don't want to call them, consider a local fibre supplier such as Origin
  8. I'm still looking into this for Leah, have you checked origin's postcode checker?
  9. PM me your postcode/door no. and I'll have a proper look at our records for you.
  10. If sky can't give you fibre, then EE won't be able to either. It all resold BT wholesale services. There's a checker on HERE that will tell you. If it says FTTC - then you can get fibre with the main providers. If it says 'digital region' then you can get fibre with us
  11. I've tried to give W8 a go a few times, but I can't get on with it. My main rig is a gaming PC and there was a noticeable difference in benchmarks - on my machine at least. Driver issues were a problem for me too as I use some old ambx hardware. I understand there have been examples where W8 gives a performance increase, but i never saw it in my tests. I'm tempted to try again, but I don't see what's going to be different. The interface seemed counter intuitive for keyboard and mouse too compared to W7. Definitely couldn't imagine using W8 at work - at least not without the desktop tweak.
  12. The iPad 16Gb + wifi is 319.00 before tax. As opposed to £322.35 (on current exchange rates) in the US. Not too bad at all. Tax is tax at the end of the day - and you'd have to pay duty if you brought it over from Japan anyway. To answer your main questions: i'd go for the wifi only as it's cheaper (and wifi is common enough over here). 3g can be handy if you're away from home and want to watch something live, but usage allowances on tablet plans are a pain. An ipad will work overseas (so over here), but you'd have a foreign charger with it and you'd probably need to change region/language in settings, but that's simple enough to do.
  13. I did try. I even called their 0871 number for help - but no stores within a hundred miles stocked it. I ended up giving in and ordering from Amazon. Cheaper and easier - just a shame i couldn't give my money to local company (or even a local branch of PC world) as I'd have preferred. I came close with DCS in Doncaster but when i called they'd sold out of that particular processor. At least they stocked them in the first place though. Seems like a gap in the market to me, but i guess stocking CPUs that may or may not sell is a risky business.
  14. Thanks, but it looks like I'd have to order click and collect - and the first date coming up is tuesday.
  15. Hi, thanks to being completely let down by an online retailer, I'm in need of an fx8350 vishera based CPU - preferably today. Are there actually any stores that stock CPUs in the area? I've already called quite a few with no joy. Thanks.
  16. there are android sticks that connect to your tv via HDMI for about £30. they should be capable of running android based apps such as netflix etc. Something like this
  17. Hi Cynic, If it'd be easier, Origin are now subsidising BT 'full provides' so you can have an engineer install a brand new line with no up front cost and have our broadband added to it. There's loads of options - just give us a call and we'll get you sorted!
  18. mine definitely doesn't do that! Off to meadowhall with it!! :-)
  19. It was created for those customers reporting issues with the zyxel and their line. Following the testing period, we will be making it available via our new user portal which is due to be rolled out soon.
  20. I can confirm that there IS a new firmware update being tested for the Zyxel. While it has been given to us with the promise that it will improve stability - we haven't yet rolled it out to our customers. I believe you originally spoke to a higher level tech who has been arranging the new firmware with Zyxel - and that's why the second person you spoke to wasn't aware. I'm really sorry about the confusion here. I've requested someone call you again with some more information on this
  21. I paid £1400 for my 50" smart 3D Plasma TV in 2010. I reckon I'd be lucky to get £400 for it now
  22. I'll give a +1 for speedfan. Although you shouldn't put too much faith in it.
  23. Give em some grief, they should upgrade you for free
  24. Thanks for the PM. My checks indicate a maximum attainable download speed of 70Mbps and an upload of 20Mbps. You need to have a word with them again!
