  1. I'm trying to organise a leaving party for a Friday/Saturday night in November. I'm looking for somewhere that we could hire out for free/cheap that will let us set up a soundsystem and that is also licenced. It would also have to be fairly near to the city centre. Somewhere with a late license would be a bonus too. I'm thinking we'll need somewhere that holds around 50 people. Can anyone suggest some suitable venues that I could try? cheers
  2. Quality night! Hype rinsed it, Pendulum were **** - just really flat and not much reaction from the crowd. The fella on after Pendulum brought it up nicely and Steppa rinsed it proper with some wicked mixing! Proper ram jam inside too, not seen it that busy for time. Big up all!
  3. I'm there! Can't wait, this will be my first shambala. Going down on the Thursday night coach.
  4. I saw them at birdwell too, they were excellent. Really looking forward to hearing more of them. My mates who saw them at the leadmill were less impressed so I'm guessing the sound was the problem there.
  5. I got my first tattoo on my lower back and whilst it was painful, it wasn't unbearable but was painful. Just get a tattoo wherever you want one, the pain is only temporary and the tattoo is for life. I'd recommend going to feline studio on hickmott road - they're excellent.
  6. that's exactly where we decided on going! Thanks!
  7. Anyone know of a pub quiz that's on tonight (Thursday) in or around Sheffield centre (Central, Crookes, Broomhill, Eccleshall etc)? cheers!
  8. Keep the techs, they're still standard. Definitely get new cards, I've got ortofon concordes and would definitely recommend them. My decks are numark ttx-1s - torquier and more versatile than the techs... now watch for the flaming to begin!
  9. It's not relevant to every forum so should be removed and put in a single relevant place. If people want to find the list I'm sure they can figure out where to get it from without having it in your face everywhere. The mods are normally so anal about having stuff in the right place too...
  10. I have found mercury and rca to be equally appaling and totally unreliable. The usual taxi firm that I use is A1, they normally have better availability than RCA and Mercury and are extrememly polite and helpful on the phone which makes the whole phone call far more pleasant. Their drivers all seem to be friendly too. I have found them to be reliable too when booked in advance.
  11. balti king is rubbish - currys for people who don't know what a proper curry is, all the dishes were the same - lumps of meat in different coloured and varyingly spicy sauce. And everyone know's the the broomhill friery is the daddy of the chippies, anyone remember the 30p cone of chips during the price war with that green place over the road?
  12. I reckon Sheffield is in the North, a bit to the right of Manchester, a bit above Birmingham and a short way below Leeds. It's got northeners in it too and they all talk funny and say things that i don't understand like 'duck' and 'love', I do understand 'daaaaaaaaaarn' tho as they say that in gloucestershire as well, it means 'down' in the queens english. so now you know
  13. absolutely, the dearth of city centre apartments is what's killing Sheffield at the moment, they are the way forward and the future.... just like tower blocks were in the 60s...
  14. the highway is quite a crazy place, go visit it on an evening when there's some crazy techno, it's great! I'm not sure how much longer it will remain standing though, everywhere else for about a mile around has been razed.
  15. I've been getting in to a bit more classical of late, particularly Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No.3: Sorrowful Songs which is an awesomely beautiful piece of musical that I think everyone should listen to at least once. That piece of music inspired Louise Rhodes of Lamb to write their song 'Gorecki' which is also unbelievably fantastic, one of my favourite songs ever.
