  1. Has to be our own Joe Cocker ,With a Little Help
  2. Yes an immense talent.I like the tale that Geoff Lynn told of when he,George Harrison and Bob Dylan decided to ask Roy if he would join the Travelling Willburys .Hard to imagine with their combined talent but they were totally in awe of him,in fact George Harrison said Geoff blurted out "what if he says no".Thankfully he said yes.
  3. Oh dear I am lectured by the lecturer but I still stand by what I said.Turkey has made it clear that they are looking for full membership of the EU and all the benefits that come with it,so watch this space. I must say that I am impressed by Mr Cameron's tactics in this referendum which was called because one of the main concerns of the public was immigration. He has come off the starting blocks banging the table about the economy and how strong it is( which it is) ,Boris and co. have gone head to head with him whilst Dave has conveniently kicked the immigration question under the table because it's a hot potato. If this continues then Dave will win the referendum no question and we will be resigned to years of unfettered immigration from the EU.
  4. The dark clouds are again forming over Europe our government is sleepwalking seemingly oblivious to what is happening.President Merkel of Europe is currently in Turkey negotiating on our behalf to give a potential 77million Turks visas for free movement in Europe. We are at the moment experiencing an unsustainable influx of Eu migrants and this is being reflected in the large cracks that are appearing in the NHS,Schools and Social Services as they struggle to take the strain.Adding Turkey to the equation what will happen to our green and pleasant land?I suppose I will be lectured on the error of my thoughts but to those critics I suggest they make a little visit to one of those idyll,English ,country market towns such as Boston,Spalding or Wisbech and try walking down the Main Street brushing past the hundreds of Immigrants on the pavement. The local councils are totally overwhelmed by the sheer numbers involved.
  5. A sad day for British comedy she was the ultimate stand up comedienne. The talent gulf between her and the so called new stand up Comedy Comediennes like Sarah Millican was enormous.
  6. Don't you think the BBC is biased in favour of remaining ,all they and Westminster want to talk about is how it will have a downside effect on our economy if we vote out. They could be partially right as the remaining EU countries won't take our leaving lying down and I think for a few years they would make trading very difficult. But what about the other side of the coin the part the government doesn't want to talk about ,77 million muslim Turks licking their lips at coming over here as EU members .The UK could be likened to a lifeboat and like a lifeboat will sink if too many people are in it,it will be every man for himself.
  7. Once saw a series of MASH on BBC2 they somehow played it without the laugh machine, Marvellous !!
  8. It seems that over the years the formula for American television comedy has not changed one iota. They have an entourage of scriptwriters who put a script together that virtually every line of it is a punchline ,then they add the audience laughter which is virtually continuous ,presumably to ram it home that something funny has been said.As an example "the Big Bang Theory".I really want to like it but these attributes I have just mentioned are a big put off to me.i like to watch comedies like "The Royle Family"or "Early Doors" where I decide what's funny or not ,wonder what everyone else thinks?
  9. A child as said before always needs to know where that line is and in the home he or she must be offered options like,"if you do that again I will smack you".If the child does cross the line then the threat has to be carried out, likewise it can work the other way round ,"if you behave yourselves today I will give you a treat".and if they do not behave the treat will not be forthcoming, but if they do the treat must be given.Children on their learning cycle need to know where the line is and know the consequences if they cross. We are talking generally here you are always going to get the very odd exception where discipline is an unknown word.
  10. No worries about having to work into your 70's.With the eu members being bussed in by the umpteen thousands and Turkeys 75 million waiting in the wings to join. The delicate employment /economy balance will collapse ,economy will nosedive and unemployment will go through the roof as the service industries will be unable to be sustained.i envisage that euthanasia will be legalised and encouraged by the government ,perhaps the participants will have their funeral expenses paid by the government as an incentive .What next,Logan's run? Oh brave new world.
  11. In the late 60's the so called computers were repaired and serviced by electronics engineers with soldering irons etc ,who we regarded as Creme de la Creme .One one of them said he was applying for a job as a programmer .I said that was a bit of a come down from his present job.He told me that in years to come his job would be phased out and it would be a case of replacing a circuit board with a new one or even completely replacing a computer with a new one.How right he was.
  12. In the 60/70's in the steel industry there were computers that controlled the cutting of steel in the rolling mills to minimise wastage there total memory was less than a 48k spectrum computer.
  13. Be careful ,had 2 items not delivered, contacted the delivery firm Yodel who deliver for Amazon after a couple of phone calls they admitted they had delivered the items to the wrong address ,they refused to retrieve them and told me I not them would have to contact Amazon who would reissue new items.Incredibly this is what happened ,having complained to Amazon I heard no more.So Yodel must be acting like Father Christmas.
  14. What about the women already on pension getting just £60 or less a week and no hope of an increase due to lack of stamps through not working and bringing up children look at the disparity of that.
  15. I take your point that steelworks should compete or fall in the open market but I would like to put forward another point. If the government refuses to subsidise the steel industry we will lose it completely both the plant and the expertise. Now steel ,not plastic that has been suggested ,is crucial to our countries defence .So in years to come we will be totally reliant on other countries for steel as we are for power because we have closed our coal mines and we are importing more gas. These two factors together with the drastic reduction in the armed forces are going to leave us wide open to powers like Russia and China who might fancy to have their wicked way with us.Churchill must be turning in his grave. So my point is for the government to keep the steel industry ticking over for security purposes even if it means subsidising it.
  16. In their time a very funny duo ,but I agree with the others the magic seems to have deserted them and their new material is dire .We are now witnessing the death of two clowns.
  17. Yes I remember it well,El Cheapo electronics with substandard quality it really was the bottom of the ladder for young would be groups but it was all we could afford in those days as money was tight. The next rung up on the ladder at that time was Bradley's on Barkers Pool or Johnsons Electrics on Staniforth Road Darnall
  18. Craig Cash is a very underrated comedy writer I.e Royle Family and Early Doors both presented without the laugh machine which was very welcome to intelligent people.
  19. Hi Torontony,to add to the Dave Rawson thing apart from being an excellent guitarist he actually looked the part .He looked as if he had just walked out of Carnaby St ,a carbon copy of Roy Emerson very flamboyant I really thought he was destined for better things but sadly like most of the wannabes of the time it wasn't to be ,I think he still lives in the Penistone area, ahh halcyon days.
  20. Hi Torontony ,the guitarists name from Brinsworth would be Dave Rawson
  21. Unfortunately during my working life I have seen the management-Union struggle first hand. You would think there is a happy medium but there isn't .When the Management has the upper hand they rub the workers faces in the dirt and when as in this case the workers have the upper hand they get greedy and want more and more. You watch in a few years, because they will strike every year every tube worker will be on more money than the Prime Minister.
  22. In the 1960's the common market was envisaged as a trading coalition ,but look at us now our hospitals, schools and social services all breaking down by mass migration .Our borders are like sieves ,our laws are been dreadfully manipulated by Brussels .Yes if we come out of the market we will initially suffer, but I believe it is the lesser of two evils.
  23. Yes with Wakeman,Howe,Anderson,Squire and Bruford or White one of the most complex yet still tuneful bands there was, might even give xfactor winners a run for their money(lol)
  24. Europe is playing with Cameron with his renegotiations ,why doesn't he limit EU immigration down to a more acceptable level and non EU immigration to be controlled like Australia(ie what have you got to offer us),beef up our border controls, take our lawmaking away from Brussels? Its a bit like lighting the blue touch paper but it puts the ball in their court, will they fine us heavily ,kick us out or accept our demands. The trouble is with our country is that we have to always play by the rules to the letter .
  25. Britain is likened to a lifeboat, too many bodies and it will sink. The migrants don't like our weather, perhaps not so keen on us,but they do like our benefits system, look at them queuing up across the channel. Our laws directed by Brussels are becoming a worldwide joke.Yes it's time to pull up the drawbridge, and yes I believe we will be initially worse off,but surely it's the only way to go to escape these two factors that are going to cripple our country
