  1. The job is task and finish to encourage productivity, probably not their fault they run round to get the job done as quickly as possible to benefit from an early finish, wouldn't you? If they did the job at normal pace, they would do a full days work.
  2. Dear Sheffield, please find below my response to the consultation as a concerned city resident. On the first point I have never had to leave side waste for collection despite been of a medium sized family. I think this is just anti social, a hassle for the bin men and a health and safety issue. My friend is a loader for Veolia and his opinion like many others at his place is that they find side waste a problem and a hassle and would rather not take it including their annual christmas clear up. However he did they that the removal of his christmas clear up bonus needs to be replenished some how else where on his salary, I understand they earn an average of £1000 bonus every year for this period so he would like to see at least £500 payrise from their next pay negotiations on top of their negotiated percentage. As for your dispensated collections(pull outs as they term it) again I am elderley with some difficulty in mobility, but I manage to get my bins out. In my opinion people who cannot in the genuine sense, generally have someone caring for them and as putting bins out are a general part of day to day life, perhaps the onus should be put on these carers wether family or paid. Again my friend at Veolia would welcome this, they find doing the endless pull outs all day which have increased since fortnightly collections very tiring and some dangerous where they're is an awkward route or steep steps etc to negotiate. Also not to mention the fact that Veola claim for payments of doing dispensations and don't pass this bonus onto the lads as well as claiming for ones that are no more and the new resident presents anyway. Greedy Veola! As for rural properties, if they choose to live their, then yes they should be responsible themselves for getting their container to the nearest public accessable highway. We used to live on a farm in the high peak and the bin lorry could have easily drove down our one mile tarmacced' drive in chapelenlefrith but they didn't, we left our container on the end of our drive permanently and kept taking our rubbish to it in the back of our land rover. As for flats, if bin storage is sufficient why cant for example a black bin allocated to each resident get presented by the resident kerbside, make it their responsibility. Or if they have to have shared containers, why not make it the land agents or caretakers responsibility to put bins out for the binmen. This will free up a lot of the bin mens time and make them more productive. I'm all for shared bins in general as long as they are kerbside and the responsibility of the resident to get ready for collection. The same opinion of and including my bin man friend. Obviously not suitable for everywhere but certainly the more run down, terraced, student, high volume and limited space properties should be considered. I am a bit confused on the last point though, especially after talking to my bin man friend. As you are probably aware, the bin crews work Mon- Fri start time 6:30am and finish time 15:00. So anything after three is overtime? no? Not normal collection! and I know for a fact they dont do overtime past 1800hrs, so where you see proposals working I am not quite sure. You certainly wont get any of the Veola staff working past 15:00 unless on overtime as extra work not planned work at the moment so cant seeing you getting flats emptied upto 9pm and certainly not working weekends as lots of them already do other planned things outside of work like a life!. My bin man friend and his colleagues generally feel the earliest they would start at the yard in the morning would be 6am(so collections starting approx 6:30am). They would be willing to work ten hour days though this would be over a four day period Tues- Fri providing that their wages are compensated to make up for the loss of bank holiday overtime. They would expect another payrise on their salary of £950 to cover this, and always be guaranteed christmas and boxing day off but happy to work new years day and still get paid double time for working good friday. Also their current overtime rates to remain untouched in the other circumstances. I hope these paragraphs make a contribution to your consultation. All good stuff for the recycling changes, totally agree get rid of side waste, but my god Sheffield when will you learn to co-mingle recyclable waste like other places in the country having the need for only one 240l recycling container, no need to go back to the dark ages with lads having to lift boxes with huge manual handling problems and also get rid of the horrible split body vehicles and split tips! Again all good for replacement containers, but my god charge those on benefits where people just cant be bothered to work! They are the ones nicking' the bins! and why not charge for all container types? Makes sense. Also reduce the period for green bin collections APR- SEPT only, save more money! Come on council think about this properly!!!
  3. Thanks for the heads up, a few things their I wouldn't have taken a closer look at. Great info. ---------- Post added 09-11-2014 at 13:24 ---------- Yes European tourings on the agenda, but not a great deal. My thoughts on these was hiring a bike as and when if I got the landy.
  4. That's one tick for the Landy then. Thanks! 1996 was a roughish' year I would look for, either a M,N,P,R reg' depending on price. What would you consider need doing?
  5. Well the title says it all really! I have had a little good luck with finances and now faced with a dilemma! Should I go for the Land Rover car or the BMW motorbike??? All the pro's and con's say Land Rover, and my heart says both! Just cannot decide, please help!
  6. BREAKING NEWS... Domestic black bins will become fortnightly in Sheffield from the end of JULY 2012. The workforce faces cutbacks of upto 35no. staff mainly loaders and drivers just after staff didn't get payrise they asked for after industrial action.
