  1. Afraid not - the tram ticket offerings are rather inflexible to be quite honest. You may want to have a look at adding a 'Plusbus' to your ticket instead.
  2. Correlation does not equal causation. And precisely the point - if we're going to slaughter animals for food, it makes sense to do it in the most humane way possible, which halal decidedly isn't
  3. A great shame that junk pedallers like McDonalds are the only places that seem to be open round the clock, sickening how Americanised everything has become in this country. Get that you're trying to be Mr Cosmopolitan and are embracing ritualised slaughtering, but to claim that it somehow enhances the taste is beyond farcical.
  4. Was well aware of this already, however "Town hall bells" sounds a little better than "Town Hall audio recording"
  5. Anyone got a good idea of how far one car hear the Town Hall bells from? I'm quite sure I've been able to make out the sound of them from Norton Lees on a couple of still nights, and I've also heard them from around Wybourn (less of a surprise considering its proximity to town) in the past.
  6. As a surprise to no-one, it looks they're in decline... now I wonder where that dip last November came from? http://www.sheff.eu/post/140975306312/revealed-three-year-decline-in-sheffield-bus
  7. Quite surprising that there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the city centre where one can buy them. It's only a couple of days away. Unless I'm not looking hard enough?
  8. This isn't a thread about immigration, it's about refugees. Like or not though, surveys have shown that public opinion is regularly in the region of 3/4 in favour of reducing it. This is to be expected when a nation experiences the record high levels of inward migration it has since 2000. I believe Sheffield should not be pressured by a man who has overseen savage cuts to our city into receiving more refugees than it does already. As I've already pointed out, we've been one of the most generous cities to asylum seekers, and have been recognised as so by the European Parliament. Look at how welcoming Sheffield was to Zimbabweans and Somalians fleeing conflicts compared to elsewhere. We have been pulling more than our weight for some time now.
  9. Appears to be doing the rounds again in S8, more or less the same content as in the original post. Very bizzare stuff. It's incoherent at parts, with rants on all sorts of unrelated subjects, and even manages to throw in a lonely hearts section in amongst the massive block of text.
  10. True, probably due to the internet and globalisation. There are still noticeable differences though, and long may it stay that way.
  11. You don't need loose borders to bring in the highly qualified and skilled workers. Australia, USA, Switzerland have sensible controls and manage to do so, no reason why we can't. The fact is, however cold it may sound, when we have millions of working poor of our own right here in this country (some using food banks in the 21st century) the priority should be on improving their living conditions first. ---------- Post added 14-04-2014 at 18:35 ---------- Would I find that? Sheffield's been incredibly welcoming to victims of Somalian, Congolese and Zimbabwean conflicts in the past couple of decades. More so than the vast majority of other English cities. It isn't as if we haven't been pulling our weight, quite the opposite in fact.
  12. If Clegg wants us to take in more refugees than we already do (which is a lot, the European Parliament described us as one the most generous asylum cities) then he can pay for their housing, food, utilities etc himself. Maybe they can move into his home. How dare he oversee gashing budget cuts to our area, and then demand we use our depleted resources to house people we have been more than welcoming to for years!
  13. I was saying I expected there to be far more than 3.2 per family a month judging by how many overweight people there are. And this country's growing 'takeaway culture' is no doubt a reason why we are shooting up the obesity tables. It's not the people who eat three a month that are the problem but the ones who have them nearly every day and see nothing wrong with it, of which there are plenty. A negligable effect on the local economy does not make the fact that we are more reliant on fast food than other cities a good thing.
  14. Only 3.2? You would've thought the figure would be higher judging by the size of some people round here. They're a decent thing in moderation but some do clearly think they're a daily alternative to proper meals. Wouldn't exactly say eating the most takeaways is 'good news'...
  15. Seems to be particularly widespread phenomenon in Poundland, oddly enough. (Of all the places to shoplift!)
