  1. I used to work at the Shack many years ago, mainly just Saturdays but some evenings as well. I loved it, and met a lot of slightly famous people too. I made the drinks and took the orders for the cook to prepare, the coffee machine was huge and scared the life out of me at first but I soon got used to the noise and the steam. There used to be an office upstairs, but to access it there was a pull down ladder so when we went up to get our wages, everyone sitting at the tables got an eyefull! We werent allowed to wear trousers lol.
  2. Thanks for that link, I have just had a look at their website, looks good, we will certainly check it out. Its not that far from Stocksbridge, so could be ok for us, although we would prefer to be closer to family.
  3. Unfortunately we are not members of the Caravan Club, we prefer to be with Camping and Caravanning Club as we have an old VW Campervan. We have found the CC are not too keen on our hippy rig. But thank you for the information.
  4. Thank you, I never thought of trying pub carparks, its certainly a thought, Cheers
  5. Thankyou for that link, We have Stayed at Greenhead house Farm, but unfortunately it is far from flat, even with our wheel wedges, we couldnt get our van level. Apart from that, it is a lovely area, the owners are very friendly, and it it was flat, we would stay there every time. We are looking at the Windy Hall Farm, that is the nearest to our family, so we will try that one soon. Thanks once again.
  6. We are looking to stay over in North Sheffield, but there seems to be a lack of places to park our Camper Van. Any ideas of any where, it doesnt have to be a recognised site, we dont mind roughing it for a few days. It just needs to be level..ish, and accept dogs.
  7. There was a Linda Musgrave who worked in the Telex Dept in the early 70's, was she a relative of your Dad's too?
  8. I was there between '60 and '64. Mr Day was head and Miss Oram (Olive) was deputy head. Cyril Madden was music teacher Mrs West nee Miss Madden, was our form teacher and english teacher Mike Bancroft Maths Pat Levitt Art/crafts Mr Allen Art Miss Tyson PE later she became Mrs Wilson. Barbara Walker - housecraft Mrs Beeton - needlework Mr Rutherford - Geography and Art Mr Rogers (Ginner) science Miss Holt Biology Mr Luff - R.E. Mr Body - cant remember what he taught. Mr and Mrs Bagshaw, again cant remember what they taught. Cant remember any more lol its been a while.
  9. I joined Fox's back in the early 70's but it was BSC then, I worked as a floater, between the switchboard, the telex room and the post room. My sister worked for Joint Consultation as it was called in those days. She was a secretary to the personnel dept and also did work in the Newspaper office. Those were the days when companies looked after their staff, we had day release at Stocksbridge College, we went on Outward Bound Courses, we had visits from the works Vicar, and for those who needed it, a great medical service including physio and other treatments that you would normally have to travel to hospital for.
  10. Hi, yes Marlene that is the company who made the badge, so I am researching that side of things, just no replies as yet. Unfortunately there are no living relatives who know about, or have wanted to research the Eyre side of the family, Dad always wanted to do it, but it was one of those hobbies that he never started, and he wasnt into computers, so he didnt really know where to start. Thanks for the link to Sheffield History, I will put a post on there and see what transpires. You are all great, thankyou for taking this up on my behalf, I really have enjoyed reading and researching, I guess I have been bitten by the bug!!!
  11. What a great site Sheffield Indexers is, I have been given a lot of information about my great grandfather and his family which I didnt know before, but not a lot more about A.S.S.C. I am guessing it is one of 2 things, something to do with Ambrose Shardlow, or something to do with Attercliffe. My favourite is Ambrose Shardlows, someone on the indexers site suggested it was Ambrose Shardlow Silver Cup, or Sports Club. The trouble is, Ambrose Shardlows was swallowed up by GKN back in the early 60's so I am doubtful that I will ever get to the bottom of this badge, but I wont stop looking lol. Bunny
  12. I emailed the secretary of the footie assn, and here is his reply:- he crest on the badge is the Sheffield Coat of Arms which many organisations use, including ourselves. If the badge is engraved with 1909 then that suggests a summer sport or club. Football medals would have 1908/09 rather than one year, so I doubt it is football related. The letters S S suggest to me the words Sunday School and the C could stand for Club or Committee. The A would then stand for a place name - Attercliffe seams a good possibility to me. Did the person live in or go to school in that area? So that is one line of enquiry closed, but interestingly, my grandad was brought up in Attercliffe, so perhaps this is getting close to the answer.
  13. We received 4 from Rotherham last October, they were in a sorry state, but soon adapted, and now they are looking really great, plus we have never bought an egg since then
  14. Quote: I was born at 99 Langsett Ave in 1938.I remember being anaesthetised in 1948 by asphyxiation at a dental surgery run by Hilton-Tapp on the corner of Middlewood Rd and ? Minto Rd. I remember in what must be 1954/5 being taking into Hillborough by my Mum, she wouldnt tell me where we were going, but she let me wear my new Whitsuntide sandles, so it must have been a 'Special' day. It was, she took me to Hilton-Tapps. I remember going upstairs to this treatment room, and screaming the place down!, He then yelled at the dental nurse to sedate me, and she gave me a large capsule and some water and ordered me to swallow it. There then followed a heated disscussion between my Mum and the Dentist, and he threw us out! We never did go back there again. After that it was the Dental hospital for us.
