  1. Whatever you do, avoid Walkley Dental Centre. Contrary to what has been claimed in earlier posts, the staff there are not only rude but also incompetent. I visited the other day, was asked to make a payment and then got forgotten about in the waiting area, despite sitting only feet away from the receptionists. The rest of my family are all registered at School Road Dental Practice and have nothing but praise for them. They are registering NHS patients at the moment.
  2. Saw the Lord Mayor get out of what seemed like his official car the other day - a Jaguar, no less. Is it just me, or does anybody else also find it insensitive for the city's top representative to be chauffeured around town in such a vehicle, while the Council is allegedly desperately short of money and vital services for children, people with disabilities etc are scrapped or reduced to their bare minimum (or less than that)? Now there's a mixed message if ever I saw one...
  3. This has been a topic on this Forum in the past, but I think it deserves fresh mention, so I would like to join those who would NOT recommend the children's swimming lessons at King Edwards. Not only that the facilities are decrepit and unhygienic. That would even be just about tolerable if the actual swimming lessons were any good. Which they aren’t. Shall we say the instructors’ tone towards the kids is ‘robust’, i.e. there is a lot of shouting and hardly any positive encouragement going on. Plus the ‘lessons’ consist of a seemingly endless repletion of the same drills. My kids, who are both pretty water confident, had to be dragged there after the first sessions, until we finally gave up. When I told the instructor that we weren’t happy with the course, she agreed that the method they used was not much fun for the kids, and if we wanted them to have fun, we’d best go elsewhere. This, at least, was helpful advise which we gladly accepted...
