  1. "Valleyites" seem to be all over the world these days. Myself, I'm still here !!! Stiil, I have moved to the other side of the bridge from where I was in my childhood. All the best to you from a rather wet Gleadless Valley.
  2. Pete Frost still lives on the Valley - Spotswood Rd. The last time I saw him was at the funeral of Alan Fell's wife, who sadly passed away after a long illness. Alan was my best man, and I was his. We used to DJ together at the Royal Oak at Intake (mid 70's) and quite a few other pubs around that area. Before that, my "partner in crime" was Philip Brook (pud) who you may remember. He was a "rocker" and had some quite large cc bikes in his time. He lived on Fleury. Unfortunately Phil is no longer with us either. Mick Siddall is another name I recognise, he had a sister called Christine who I had the hots for at one stage - though she didn't fancy me ! We used to play a lot of footie at the bottom of Hurlfield hill (before they altered the road and took the bend out). Does the name Trevor Fox ring a bell ? He used to live next door to Pete Frost on Plowright. I'm still on the Valley. These days I live on Gaunt. Mum lives near the Far Lees pub (sadly now closed) and my sister is also on that side of the Valley.
  3. I saw Diane Bingham on Sunday lunchtime in the Queens Road Club. Will tell her that her name has been mentioned on here if she comes in next week.
  4. I don't remember Christine being "dirty" --- unless you know something I don't !!!
  5. Urgently trying to contact "Frostie" from the forum regarding Jean-Marie Fell If anyone knows him or can contact him, please get him to PM me asap Dave P
  6. If anyone Knows Frostie - from the Forum - I am urgently trying to contact him regarding Jean-Marie Fell. Last known address off Spotswood road Gleadless Valley. Dave P
  7. They won't put it on the newspaper websites in case he's got access
  8. I still live on the valley (just off Blackstock now) but we originally lived on Farmstead Close. Names that come to mind are Trevor Fox, Pete Frost, Richard Grinham, Christine and Michael Siddall, and my old mate Alan Fell. We used to play footy on the grassed area at the bottom of Hurlfield hill (where the road used to have a big bend in it)
  9. May I wish you welcome as a member of the forum. Loads of ex-Sheffielder's post on here, even "conversing" across the world about their memories of Sheffield and the surrounding areas. Also, a Merry Xmas to all those in foreign lands (where the weather is no doubt an awful lot warmer than it is in Sheff at the moment !!!!)
  10. There was a similar thread on here some time back where I mentioned my true love, it was post Marine Broadcasting Act, and it took on the authorities. This was 1970 and the station was RNI. Some of the ex-pirates have been resurrected as internet stations. Caroline lives on (it's also on Sky 0199). Luxemburg is on the Internet and so is my favouite, the above-mentioned RNI.
  11. A possibility is the market stall on the Moor near the bottom. He sells all sorts of safety boots/shoes, and is very helpful. If he hasn't got them himself, he may know where they can be purchased.
  12. I think it's got to the stage where a ref wants some newspaper mention of himself, so that he is noticed by those above him. Years ago, the best refs were always the one's that never hardly got a mention in the press, they just got on with the job, and were respected for it. Best one I ever remember was Rodger Kirkpatrick. He was the guy who would overrule the odd flag-waving linesman, and was adept at playing the "advantage rule". Nowadays, people look forward with dread at whom is officiating their next match, 'cos they know he is going to make a right ****s up of it.
  13. Jostein Flo was about 8 foot 3, but only Dave Bassett thought he was a striker. He was an International, but that was as a midfielder, hence we struggled to score goals that season.
  14. I remember they once went a WHOLE season without winning away. It was only the home form that kept them up. Most sides, even the relegated ones, manage at least 1 away win in a season, although I can't remember if Derby managed that feat last season.
  15. So there sis is the story direct from someone who knows. Told you that this forum would become addictive - didn't I....
  16. Glad someone has already sorted it for you, as I honestly didn't have a clue, despite what my sister said !!!
  17. Is it just mine, or is it something Sky have been doing. The box keeps going into standby if it's not looking at a programme from it's memory. For example, I set it up to have Sky Sports 1 on this morning, and left it on so that I could record the Derby game later on my video. When I got back in, the dreaded red light was on. If I'm not changing channels on it, I usually leave in on so we can watch it round the house (I've got it piped round the house as an RF signal on button 6), but this is messing it up. Is anyone else having problems, or is it my box throwing a wobbler ???
  18. No. That was Phil - who is sadly no longer with us.
  19. I've got RNI on (loads of oldies, no adverts, no DJs except Sundays). Tune in at http://www.radio-northsea.co.uk It should be sponsored by Carlsberg as it's probably the best internet radio station in the world.
  20. Sorry for the error, sis. And by the way, welcome to the forum.
  21. If you can remember back to the mid 70's, when the stage used to be at the end of the pub, then your's truly used to be behind the mic on Monday evenings. On one evening, we had a visit from the plod, and ,of course I cut the record playing, and played one by "The Police". Tuesday evening I was at The Royal Oak at Intake, when guess who appeared, so I did the same thing. Wednesday evening I was at The Ball, Intake standing in for Alan Dale who was on holiday, and they visited that one as well. Same thing. Thursday evening, The Strad at Stadbroke. You better believe who turned up. As I was playing the Police record for them for the 4th time in 4 days, one of them came over and said "Do you run EVERY ----ing disco in Sheffield ?" I told him that I was having Friday off but would he like to join us at the Executive Suite at Bramall Lane on Saturday evening as there was a private party, and as he was obviously a big fan of mine, I was sure I could arrange for him to gain access if he liked. I cannot repeat what his answer was !!!!!!
  22. It's nice to know that we Sheffielder's are still educating the "out of Townies" in the eating of what is probably one of the best foods in the world !!!!
  23. It started to go downhill the day the bloke walked in with a shotgun looking for someone, and it wasn't for a friendly chat. Then the change of ownership and the allowing of drugs to be used/sold within the premises. The old crowd moved out to pastures new. And, of course, people are creatures of habit. In that, if they go somewhere else and it's OK, they ain't gonna come back. Once you have lost the clientelle, they're gone forever. Shame really. When it first opened, it was THE place to go. Sunday evenings, they used to begin queueing outsde from about 6.15pm (opening time was 7.00pm) - it was that popular. If you weren't in by 7.30, you didn't get a seat !!!!
  24. He's probably crashed his bus into the River Aire !!!!!
  25. Hi Keith. Are you KB, ex BT engineer ???
