  1. I e-mailed Amey to ask what was actually going on. There has been a delay on my road due to 'unforeseen circumstances'. As to delays or stoppages being down to trees and tree protests- foreseeable if you go about it with zero consultation and zero communication like Amey have done. Ditto subcontractors not working if you don't pay them. Completely foreseeable. Signs have gone up on next road to me that they are doing stuff. So perhas the way to get your road done is for someone on the next road to e-mail?
  2. Have watched this go up with interest. Will give it a go.
  3. Work going on at Chippinghouse Road today- looks like pavements and I didn't notice any contractor/subbie names. Given that it's now August 2017 and this was due to be finished by 2017, why is it that something like only 10% of my route to/from work every day has been done? Surely it should be 95% of my route? Unhappy with quality of work where it has been done- potholes and bumps have been replaced with undulations causing car to rock on springs. This will lead to localised wear and hence potholes re-appearing. Awful communication about tree removal- where are the replacement trees? Lots of chainsaws, very few spades and saplings in evidence. Has the dispute with subbies been resolved? My road due to get done- long overdue but pointlessly patched. How do they decide which of the potholes to fill out of the one-in-ten that they do fill?
  4. Saw a kid today on Wostenholm Road, no helmet, face covered and baffles taken out of exhaust for that extra 0.05hp it gives you. Looks like we're copying London and getting a moped crime wave. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  5. Daducky- I think I agree with you but it looks like predictive text or beer text. London Rd is terrible from St. Mary's Gate and again past Ponsford. Start of Chesterfield Road terrible too, but obviously won't be done 'til they finish those major works round Lidl. Work was going on round mine, but has stopped. Any news when it'll restart? 6. Large diesel trains are effectively hybrids and have been since the 1950s when diesel locos saw widespread introduction. Diesel engine drives a generator, electric motors drive wheels. Better arrangement than mechanical transmission to drive 500 plus tonnes. You just can't run them off wired electricity without massive alterations. One company so far, Vivarail has produced a prototype diesel hybrid train for local stopping rather than Intercity services. It caught fire...... Decision is laughable in light of decision to electrify car fleet by 2040. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  7. Does anyone know if this unpaid bill, if it even exists has been paid yet? Cannot find any reference to this anywhere except on this forum. Tempting to report this as fake news. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  8. Pretty sure the shop you got it from are legally obliged to take it back under WEEE regs, if they don't. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  9. Looks like there's nothing following on from 2016 so here goes. It has (in my observation) been unusually cool and dry. I was walking through a silage meadow in Ringinglow on Sunday and the grass wasn't much longer than my lawn, whereas farmers have often made first cut by early/mid May. As to my lawn, staying cooler for longer means crocus leaves still haven't died back, so I can't mow, meaning it's getting as long as aforesaid silage meadow. ....and as mentioned to bookend the winter weather post elegantly, my fig tree got battered by whatever the weather did last week. Spring looks to have started early, but stalled significantly.
  10. So this is why I get back from holiday and my fig tree's leaves are all curled up and brown.
  11. Dry weather's drying subsoil out. If it's clay, it shrinks when dry and expands when wet. Roads have clearly been built without sufficient inert base to cope with normal ground movement. No I'm not an engineer, but would welcome opinions on voracity of this statement.
  12. I thought this thread just meant people had gone skiing, as it's skiing time and Eccy road people are the kind of people who go skiing
  13. Don't preppers have bowsaws? In a real shtfs would you wait for the council to shift a branch or do it yourself?
  14. Are you after getting flats for them? That why you're looking for a flat, excepting (sic) DSS in another thread?
  15. Saw some in trees on Shorthand St. near to inner ring road earlier today
  16. I'd agree, don't use public transport instead as it's slower, less reliable and pricier than cycling. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  17. Turn off Penistone Road just before Shalesmoor onto Green Lane and follow it through Kelham Island onto Alma St. Come out at Bridgehouses Tesco local, across ring road at Toucan crossing. Along Bridge St. to Lady's Bridge, right into Blonk St. Turn onto signed cycle path just before Park Square., that's part of Trans Pennine Trail or something. 18. And do vehicle users ever appreciate the fact that other road users are forced to give them priority? All you ever seem to hear is moan, moan, moan. I have to stick to the speed limit, boohoohoo I'm not allowed to park wherever I jolly well like, boohoohoo My Range Rover's twice the weight of most other cars, but it's someone else's fault the roads are full of potholes, boohoohoo I was in a traffic jam at rush hour boohoohoo Moaning motorists get on my wick. And I speak as someone who uses a car. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  19. ....and of course if you're a pedestrian SCC just LOVE the staggered crossings, making crossing the road a minimum two stage, preferably three operation. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  20. Here goes unless it's started already. Very wet sleet in Norton Lees. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  21. I went past my favourite place yesterday Sai Nivas on Cumberland St. Looks like it was some kind of bankrupt stock outlet. Great food in there but always seemed to struggle to fill tables. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  22. If demos had any bearing on where party conferences were held, they'd all be on the moon. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  23. Why not? Apart from awful road and rail connections to the North West, it's pretty well connected to the rest of the country. Whilst there's plenty of underused buildings, I'm not sure how fast anything could be brought up to spec, or if anywhere else has a more readily usable building. 24. Signs say next Monday. I heard they were closing it permanently though, but keeping it open to immigrants and cyclists. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
  25. We have to understand that despite causing 1,000 times less wear to carriageway surfaces, we're second class citizens. For this reason cycle paths have quotas of at least three times as many give ways as roads to be shared with cars. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
