  1. And??? I stand by my statement that you are making ill considered and over simplistic judgements. Don't you ever think WHY there is an obesity problem now? Have people suddenly got lazy and ill disciplined for no apparent reason?
  2. I'm not overweight (or a smoker for that matter). I just don't like sweeping, simplistic statements on complex issues. Sorry to those who got bored with this though
  3. You know to be honest I don't really have much personal interest in either smoking or obesity. I just marvel that in this day and age there are so many people as ill educated as you that fail to see the full picture in issues like these. Would you say that a person that eats huge amounts without exercising but remains thin is any less lazy/irresponsible/undisciplined than someone who gets fat? There are people like this and they are clogging up their arteries just like a fat person but they won't be stigmatised because they are thin. And they won't be criticised by the likes of you will they? With the smoking thing I was trying to show how some people are likely to have a stronger addiction than others so it's harder to give up (**NOTE - NOT AN EXCUSE not to give up or win sympathy/attention**).
  4. Were you by any chance a bully at school? Was it OK to bully because it made the victims "stronger people" prepared to stand up for themselves? Maybe thats so sometimes but it's a fine line between that and someones life being made a misery. I am not into a nanny culture at all. I'm into a culture that sits between that the bullying one you support. And I did not (how many times do I have to repeat this... ) say it's OK for someone to be fat because they can't help cravings. Read my other posts, I can't be bothered repeating them.
  5. I was told this from an friend who has conducted research into smoking and cancer. It was a couple of years ago and I'm not a scientist myself so I can't tell you any more though!
  6. Well the comments you came out were negative. I don't think you handle weight issues with "kid gloves" but doing the exact opposite like you isn't right either. It's like saying "all smokers are stupid, they know the risks why can't they just quit". The issues are same with obesity.
  7. Sigh..........I WAS NOT SAYING THAT YOU CAN USE THIS AS AN EXCUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeez!! I meant that some people are more prone to certain cravings. We do need use self control to curb them. What I'm trying to say is that we should support people to lose weight because it can be very difficult.
  8. But is simplistic and downright stupid bringing this down to the level of personal insults. I'm not for one second sugesting that people shouldn't be responsible for controlling their weight/eating habits. What I'm saying is that there are more complex physical/psyological factors at work than someone being too stupid/undisciplined not to stuff their face with cream cakes and chips! The answer is to encourage people to lose weight in a supportive way not come out with "blaming" remarks like you have.
  9. Everyones biochemistry is different. The reason some people get addicted to smoking is because they lack a chemical which they get from cigarette smoking and so they get hooked. There are similar things at work with food cravings in obese people.
  10. Assuming that you are not trolling here, all you are doing is demonstrating your lack of understanding of the issue as a whole. We are genetically programmed to crave high calorie foods. This is a survival instinct we have inherited from our earliest ancestors when high calorie foods were not everywhere they looked unlike today. But it's more complex that just that, some have a naturally higher metabolism so can eat more and not gain weight, some people have disabilities/medical problem that limits the amount of physical activity they do so are prone to weight gain, some overweight people may be put off exercising people some ****wit will shout abuse at "tub of lard" jogging for example. We should support and encourage overweight people to help them lose weight, not make stupid abusive comments. It interests me to wonder why you feel the need to make abusive comments like this - is it to cover up some inadequacy of your own?
  11. I think people are over reacting to this (at least I hope so..). Isn't this about, for example, refusing surgery to someone who is OBESE (as opposed to being a bit overweight) due to risk involved with surgery on an obese person? We really are in sorry state nowadays about weight/healthy eating issues. Every week the media tells us of YET ANOTHER FOOD that's bad for you and how appalling it is not to look like a emaciated model. People obessed with diets/"evil" foods/never happy with their bodies. This kind of twisted news just makes it worse:(
  12. Tried blocking a hole but they have got under the floorboards now I think. You can hear them scratching.
  13. God no:o That would be worse than the rats
  14. Any ideas on how to get rid of rat infestion in a cellar? Tried traps and rat poison but it doesn't seem to be working
  15. I've had a few lately. You can they are fake because the milling around the outside wears off and the writing is poor quality. Anyone else seen them much recently?
  16. You are spot on there. My bloke started losing hair when he was quite young and it makes absolutely no difference what anyone says, including me, that it's not important, it's attractive etc etc. It's much more a personal thing more than other people's perceptions. And it's not necessarily a self confidence issue like someone else said - it may be the case sometimes, but not always and I think it's quite patronising and simplistic to suggest that everyone seeking cosmetic surgery just needs to boost their mental self image and that they are blaming lack of confidence on a single bodily flaw. If someone feels the need to change their appearance - even if it involves surgery etc - it is a wholly personal decision.
  17. I wish it could be Christmas everyday..
  18. We are already a third of the way through the year. Another four months and it'll be August and Christmas stuff will start appearing in shops. It will indeed be Christmas again before you know it:hihi:
  19. Agreed! I went to school at KEs in the late 80' too and hated nearly every minute. The head of 6th form then (Mrs Ferdinand?) told a friend that she "no hope" of ever getting a decent job and there was "no point" going on to college with her GCSE results. Thank goodness her friends and family thought otherwise - she went on to uni and got a 1st! The teachers did very little to discourage bullying and even sometimes seemed to encourge it - I think it was considered "character building" and a acceptable part of school life - at least this seemed to be the attitude of the head at the time. And of course there was a huge disparity in the way teachers treated the kids from Dore and Totley (apart from the ones from the Green Oak and Totley Brook council estates) and Lowfields/Highfields. It sounds as though it's changed for better now thank goodness, albeit not perfect.
  20. I'd say that sounds a bit fishy then:suspect: What would motivate a purchaser to request this?
  21. On what grounds would a key inspection be asked for?
  22. I hate the fact so much has to be done through call centres and companies haven't got to on this new-fangled on-line account mangement mallarky! How many times have I logged on to on-line account then it doesn't work for some dumb reason and tells you call a help line Or you can some things on-line but for others you have to ring a help line:rant: And for wait for ages while they play stupid music and tell you you call is important:rant: As for Barclays, I hate Indian call centres as you can't ask them anything not on their "script" but I called them recently to give a new address and got their UK call centre. The operator I got through to obvioulsy hadn't a clue and just barked out questions and got pretty curt and abrupt when I said NO I'm not interested in paying for their card protection scheme, no really honestly, I'm really not interested, I just called to change my address ... They just force you into being rude and cutting them off because the hard sell tactics
  23. Cool. Looks like u can use it 4 ligtening hair which is a bit worrying but if it works.. sounds better than a mates suggestion of gargling vinegar:gag: Has anyone on here actually lost teeth from a mouth/gum infection cos thats what I'm worried about, even having jawbone removed if infection gets in it. Never heard of this til I had this infection,
  24. I bought a phone off their website and it arrived OK and on time but Orange said they would need me to sign for it - in fact the courier service left it in a "safe place" - my blue bin! Royal Mail might get a lot of stick but courier companies are a lot worse for doing this for items that are supposed to be signed for.
  25. I'll try it but isn't that the same stuff as u use 4 lightening hair!
