  1. Try the Egg Diet instead - http://www.afn.org/~poultry/eggdiet.htm Very easy and it works:)
  2. Freecycle isn't a business with items for sale to make a profit though is it? If you are genuinely looking to furnish your place and don't have the cash to pay for items outright you can't afford to be too picky (neither of course can you afford to let legalised loan sharks like Brighthouse take advantage!!). You can email people off Freecycle for more info and maybe a photo of anything that might be suitable - stuff gets snapped up quickly though.
  3. Jason - PLEASE read the link below from the Consumer Action Group about Brighthouse and have a look at the forum about Brighthouse on their site. I would rather furnish my house with cardboard boxes than go to Brighthouse - of course you don't need to do that, just get what you need from Freecycle:thumbsup: Then save up to buy better stuff if you need it. When I was younger I thought advice from parents about saving up and not buying stuff on credit was old fashioned and boring. But, believe me, after having just having shifted all my debt after years and years, I would choose old fashioned, boring saving and doing without what I can't afford any day. http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?130871 http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?164-BrightHouse-and-other-rent-to-own-Hire-Purchase-Stores
  4. OMG the egg diet!!!! My mate went on the egg diet and has seriously lost shed loads of fat. It is awesome http://www.afn.org/~poultry/eggdiet.htm
  5. :hihi:Oh, I dunno maybe living on lemons is fun. You're sure to lose weight anyway!!! http://www.thelemonadesite.com/beyonces-lemonade-diet.html
  6. Beyonce also keeps her weight down by going on the Lemon Diet!!!
  7. Beyonce did go on the lemon juice diet to lose 20 lbs, there's this about it: The Master Cleanser, otherwise known as the lemonade diet, has been getting a lot of press recently since Beyonce Knowles admitting to using the crash diet to lose 20 lbs for her role as Dina in the hit movie “Dreamgirls.” The former Destiny’s Child singer states she was motivated to shed the pounds “to go the extra mile.” She reportedly told China Daily, “Back in the sixties, models like Twiggy were popular and I knew Deena would have been thin then, so even though I really love eating, it was necessary to lose weight really fast because we shot Deena at 16 and Deena at 36 two weeks apart.” The Master Cleanser, also known as the “Master Cleanse diet”, “lemonade diet”, “lemonade fast”, “Master Cleanser lemonade fast” and the “maple syrup diet”, was popularized by Stanley Burroughs as a way to cleanse, detox and lose weight. Far from being a “detox diet” the master cleanser actually causes a build up of toxins. Please see the dangers of the Master Cleanser. According to Beyonce, “My nutritionist suggested the only way to do that was the (lemonade diet) fast.”
  8. Because they can get away with it. Especially in the current climate. When the financial climate improves they will (hopefully) shoot themselves in the foot for failing to recruit and retain good staff.
  9. Any idea how to remedy low back pain?? I've twisted my back taking furniture to the tip a couple of days ago so now the lowest part of my back is suffering!! Not going to the doctor as it's clearly not serious and I'm sure they're busy with more pressing ailments at this time of year. Just wondering if there are ways to get rid of this more quickly.
  10. Hi - Daybell&Choo at Hunters Bar have a supply of stock lenses, including GP I'm pretty sure!! I've had GP lenses for yonks and think they are great. You can still GP lenses - though if you go somewhere like Specsavers I've noticed the newer opticians don't seem to know much about them which might explain some of the comments on here. You can get GP lenses on a regular replacement by direct debit at Daybell& Choo so you always the backup of your last pair of lenses which won't be too old to use if you lose your new ones - just store the old ones in DRY case.
  11. Just to get this back on topic from the cat food replies, I've used Sainsburys Basics washing powder and it seems fine. It's worth a try to save money:thumbsup:
  12. The Co-op's internet bank Smile is also very good. For savings I use the Coventry building society. Still a mutual and again very good.
  13. One thing that has put me off is hearing that value powders have more 'fillers' in them which can clog up the washing machine. Not sure if that's true though. I'm not bothered about the powder having a strong smell though as long as it cleans properly.
  14. To save money on shopping, is the cheapest washing powder, Sainsburys Basics etc. any good or is it false economy and not wash clothes as well?
  15. If the Lemon Diet worked for Beyonce and she lost 20lb in 2 weeks then it's definately worth a try!
  16. Apparently it was only bulging a bit but yes it sounds dodgy.
  17. My friend has suspected food poisoning. We think it's come from a kebab from London Rd but also he ate some salmon out of can that looked bloated and had a dent in it which I've told could be could be botulism?? Is that likely?
  18. Sorry, but the tone of your posts are scaremongering. The administrative service needs to be streamlined but we are not talking mass compulsory redundancies. Yes, staff turnover is lower in the current ecomonic climate but still staff leave, retire and fixed term contracts end. I know several people who due to personal circumstances would accept VOLUNTARY redundancy. The voluntary redundancy package at University of Sheffield was very generous............I'm not accusing you of lying but you don't have first hand knowledge of this and you appear to be whipping up concerns on this which are blowing the situation out of proportion.
  19. Further to my previous post..........this sounds like Chinese whispers.....
  20. What a lot of rot!!! I work there and have attended the Pro Vice Chancellor's recent talks so I think I'm in a better position to comment. There will be cuts in administrative staff (approx 15%), BUT redundancy is a last resort. Savings can be made not recruiting to vacancies, not extending fixed term contracts, early retirement, etc etc. The university can hardly start recruiting for a lot of permanent positions in this situation, can it? There may be redundancy but it's not the doom and gloom picture you are painting. Stop scaremongering and spreading ill informed rumours!!!
  21. Errmm............there's a reason for this!!! Manual staff were incorrectly graded following the HERA pay modernisation exercise and as a result were being paid £1 more per hour than their equivalent counterparts in other organisations. They are to receive pay at their correct grading in future. Whether previous overpayments have be paid back is in negotiation with unions. SHU is currently in strong finanical position. Action is being taken to keep staff costs under control, in view of difficult times ahead, through not recruiting to vacancies, extending fixed term contracts etc. Redundancy is last reseort.
  22. Yep:thumbsup: You need to book early to anywhere decent!
  23. Thanks! It's for about 50 people. No definate plans about what we want yet so keep the suggestions coming!
  24. I'm planning a work Christmas do. Any suggestions for where to go welcome please:help:
