  1. I'm at Birley now so I can tell you pretty much anything about it. I know it's a bit late but I thought I'd shed some light for anyone else reading through this thread. To leave school at lunch and go to the shops you have to be in Y10 or older and you have to have a pass that school makes for you to go. They don't give everybody a pass though. They check all your behavioural records and attendance records then see if they will give you one. I've been there 3 years now, so I've seen some bad behavior there, but you'll never get a school that doesn't have any of that. The school was rebuilt because the building was quite old and we moved into the new build in September. We've now fully moved in because before they were still building parts of the new school, but after Christmas we fully moved in and it's a lovely building. Most of the teachers are brilliant, it's just some of the supplies that aren't, but we don't have them often. You get rewarded for doing good things in school such as a good piece of work, voulenteering to participate in class discussions by getting given Family Value Points. In each classroom there's a box which you place the points in with your name, year and form on, then each week they get counted up. You get rewarded for each 10 you get by getting phone calls home, letters home etc. then when you get to 50 you get entered into a raffle draw to win either a £25 Meadowhall voucher or a wishlist prize worth up to £50. I've just won one for participating in an extra-curricular activity called Student Voice, where students at Birley can have their say in what goes on in school. In Student Voice we also do things in the community, such as just before the Christmas holidays we got everybody in school to chip in to make up over 50 hampers that members of Student Voice delivered to elderly or underprivileged people in the Birley community that students nominated. As for bullying, I was getting bullied when I first came here (not by current students, people who I went to primary with who were doing it before) and I'll be honest, school wasn't great with dealing with it. Me and the people that were bullying me were told to write statements which got reviewed and they spoke to us individually, which I thought was good. However, I always got the classic "just stay away from them." and "just ignore them". I ended up dealing with it myself and it eventually stopped. But, they might deal with it better now that we have a new Principal and Vice-Principal. They're only called the Principal because we're federated with Birley Primary and they're the head of both. We do work with the Primary such as a project we finished a couple of weeks ago called Telling Tales which was where members of student voice went to the primary and wrote stories with the kids. It went down really well and there was even a competition where the kids won prizes for the best stories. I have a friend who's epileptic so he has fits and passes out if he walks up and down stairs, so they let him borrow a key so he can use the lift. They're absolutely brilliant with things like that. Overall, I love this school and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else. The teachers are great, some of them you can have a right laugh with! Most of the kids are really nice, I got to know someone who's 2 years older than me within a few days of joining Birley. Any other questions feel free to ask, I'll be happy to help!
