  3. we always had our yorkshire pud as a starter with gravy then the meyt, taters, and veg after .we also had yorkies with currants sultanas and jam as a pudding when times were hard. Also a square of yorkshire pudding was usually given me with a bit of newspaper wrapped round it and doused in relish while i was playing in our yard.this was always donated by Mrs neald who was our next door neighbour, who used to have their sunday dinner earlier than us.ours was about 2ish when Jimmy was ont radio. Fab days.

Sorry to hear about your uncle Jaynie, best wishes.
  10. hi Pop T.i remember Softlys farm on borough road we lived near it in burnell rd,our back garden backed onto borough rd right opposite softlys.my mum used to send me to fetch milk and eggs from mrs.Softlys lovely people i seem to remember.that all got pulled down after we left sheffield along with a lot more of our area, just for a b****y road widening scheme.that area was home to us and all our relations since that area was farm land.wish we'd never left.back in the 60s my little brother used to get so ill with his chest doctor Henderson said to my parents leave Sheffield for somewhere with cleaner air,of course nowadays Sheffield air is not as polluted as back then.sorry PopT i went off on one there ,i just wish we were still there.

  12. hi herbiegrass, my mum used to take me with her to 'gowers' to buy loose butter, bacon and such.i remember a chap working there possibly the manager, his name was Mr.Wittam, grey wavy hair, glasses and always a long white grocers coat.this would have been about 1960 ish,i was about seven.ring any bells to anyone ??

  14. hi jennyren, porters was at the bottom of my road[burnell] that chewing gum machine used to have 'beechnut' which was lovely and minty.porters then sold up to 'ridges' next door was 'buckleys' fruit and veg.i remember seeing buckleys shop blown to kingdom come by a nuclear bomb in the sheffield based film 'Threads'.of course most of that area was demolished, making way for road widening, great shame !
  15. my mum used to help out at auntie ednas salon as did most of the family at some stage in the salons career.my mum almost gave birth to me in that shop whilst she was working there ,that was 1953.no wonder i am in that profession myself.
