  1. If anyone's looking to go based on Richard Hawley being linked to this event (not named in the OP link but has been elsewhere on Facebook etc) you should know that he has said on his forum that he will NOT be there as it's his sons birthday and he has other plans.
  2. In that case just send me the drive and I'll destroy it properly ... honest
  3. That's what I thought as the day of my test approached (mid-1980's). My driving instructor organised a dummy test with a different instructor and to help in ensuring I didn't exceed the speed limit I purposely avoided going into 4th gear (no 5th or 6th gears then in the cars I was given to drive)! I'd never done it before during driving lessons but got paranoid about exceeding the speed limit on the test. I failed the dummy test on that alone so drove 'properly' on the real test and passed easily
  4. I'm spending no more than I usually do at Morrisons each week and collecting the stickers. I reached 20 a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to claim the pair of scissors since then but every time I go into the Halfway store the display is virtually empty! #Scissorless
  5. If you just type the number that called you into a Google search you'll get quite a few sites of this type, usually with many posts complaining about the number! For the last 2 months or so I've been called around two or three times a day by 0843 724xxxx (last 4 numbers vary), and plenty of other unrecognised numbers all of which return comments when the number is googled.
  6. Luckily in my one 'add yourself to the lighting circuit' experience my body was probably mostly beer. Many years ago whilst serving in the Royal Navy in Gibraltar I came back to my mess very drunk late one night (entirely normal practice) and switched my bunk light on. Nothing ... still very dark. The mess was shared by six of us and the usual way to resolve a blown light bulb was to nick one from someone else so I just stuck my hand into the unit to see if there was still a bulb there. There clearly wasn't but in my inebriated state I don't think I even considered trying to avoid the live bit. I vaguely recall flying back a fair distance with my heart racing and my hand and arm totally numb. I must have had that positive brain decision mentioned in an earlier post, which probably saved my life (along with the alcohol content of my body)
  7. I did consider posting links on how to get there using all modes of transport as the OP didn't say whether he/she had a car etc, but as he/she has given no positive response to any of those who have tried to help (myself excluded) I really couldn't be bothered
  8. OP has started four threads since joining the forum two weeks ago, all of them asking how to get somewhere
  9. Easy to remember - Last Saturday night in March & last Saturday night in October. March Forward - Fall Back OK, Fall Back refers to an American name for the season but it makes more sense than Autumn or Winter back
  10. Saturday 31st August 1968 to be precise. 51,931 watched it and the Owls scorers were Jack Whitham (3), John Ritchie and an own goal. Great link to what appears to be a very comprehensive Wednesday archive (goes from 1880-1995).
  11. Those crossings significantly contributed to an accident I was involved in during the late 90's, and I wasn't a pedestrian! I'd just collected my brother-in-law and nephew from the Children's Hospital and drove down to the roundabout to go right onto Upper Hanover St. As I got to the Broad Lane exit I saw a car approaching the roundabout from it at quite a speed. It all happened very quickly but the car didn't slow down and hit me. I'd managed to accelerate a bit to try and get out of the way but that wasn't enough. Surprisingly (to me) the car stopped and it turned out to be a family of Dutch tourists with the son driving. They were passing through Sheffield on their way into Derbyshire and thought the green light meant they had right of way onto the roundabout.
  12. Did my back badly over 20 years ago. Got prescribed a mix of ibuprofen and co-codomol which took away the constant pain but didn't do much for those times when you had to move but just knew it was going to hurt like hell to get to the position you wanted to be in
  13. How many times??? - We need a 'Whooooosh' smilie - preferably with brilliant white teeth
  14. Is there any link between having cavity wall insulation done and black mould then starting to appear? I only ask because I had it offered for free, together with loft insulation (government funded), about 3 years ago and ever since it was done black mould has been a constant pain on the upstairs walls and ceilings, especially around our bedroom window. Never had a problem in the previous 18 years we've lived here
  15. Where's the 'Whooooosh' smilie when you need one? Pointing out the obvious humour on this thread is like pulling teeth
  16. Diving must have started a long time ago then. I remember Roger 'Oscar' Wylde being very good at it in the '70s for Wednesday
  17. OK, say you're a regular poster on the forum and well known as a forummer. You have something personal/sensitive that you want to post that you don't want the people you regularly debate with to know is from you. That's where 'Dear Forum' comes in.
  18. How on earth can you see any link between tonight's two 'Dear Forum' posts Remarkable deduction powers if you're right however they have two very different grammar styles and I can see absolutely nothing to link them.
  19. You should have put some money on it The pub has been up for sale since well before Christmas but more or less remained open as a pub since then, albeit a very quiet looking one. The Vine Tavern 2014 facebook page has a final post from the person who has been running it which includes this line: So an Indian restaurant it apparently will become. I hope it's very good and that the wind blows in any direction but southerly as it's only about 200 yds away from my house
  20. For the last few weeks I've been bombarded daily with calls from 0843 7240610 & 0843 7243916. I've not answered any of them as I don't recognise the numbers apart from them looking suspiciously like nuisance callers, and if I did it would just confirm to those behind these calls that the number was still live and got answered! If they wanted me badly enough they'd leave a voicemail! Try googling those numbers and see just how many people are getting called constantly from them
  21. That link was posted over 4 years ago. The page that was hosted by Tesco.net has clearly been removed so it just takes you to the Tesco.net homepage now.
  22. Even the executive boxes have battered old telly's in them
