  1. Thanks - this is a useful idea and something I'll encourage my husband to do. Also, i think it would be useful to have accounts with builders merchants so we don't have to pay up front - is it possible to do this as a sole trader? Also, what do you think to using a credit card for paying for materials so long as it is 0%? I think it would be easier to keep finances separate...
  2. To pay for more materials and also wages. Its a landscape design business so there is a big outlay for materials such as stone and compost etc
  3. I think that we've possibly grown a bit too quickly and this hasn't allowed us appropriate time to learn and understand how to cost jobs which has meant that we've lost out sometimes or they've taken longer than expected so the money hasn't been coming in as quickly. How often do you invoice your customers? I changed the system recently to include our bank details for those who use the internet and also asked for payment within 14 days - does this sound about right?
  4. I wouldn't recommend posting cards through letter boxes because it has a very low return rate and takes up a lot of your time
  5. My husband and I set up our gardening business last August and although it is going really well, the business is swallowing all of our money and i've had to transfer a chunk of my savings to help out with costs. I work full time elsewhere and help with the business in my spare time. My husband has three staff working for him but doesn't have hardly any salary for himself because all the money he earns just keeps going back into the business. I've always been one who manages the finances and have always been very careful with money, so to be in a situation where i'm having to raid the savings and worry that most of our accounts are at a low level is quite frightening! Its been nearly a year since we set up...how long will it take to start to reap the (financial) rewards?
  6. It costs a fortune to get your name changed on a passport which is why mine is still in my maiden name 5 years after I got married! I recommend that you take a copy of your marriage certificate with you just in case...
  7. I find it very interesting how there are so many supportive comments for a man who doesn't want to go to a lapdancing club because he finds it degrading yet the feminists who have commented on another similar thread have been absolutely slated for feeling the same way....
  8. We have a bee suit and bee hive for sale if you are interested?
  9. The team at Joe Bond Gardens do garden maintenance and landscape design. If you'd like a free quote, please email [email protected]. You can also visit the website http://www.sheffieldgardening.co.uk and send an enquiry on there
  10. i'm scared though because it's close to wires and i dont want to electrocute myself! Took enough courage to install it in the first place....will watch my husband when he does it and take notes
  11. Wall isn't tiled where the fan is - its straight into the wall
  12. We will need to drill more holes because the new fan doesn't match up with the exisiting holes in the wall! However, i'm hoping that we won't have to change this fan for another 10-15 years like we did with the last one so a few extra holes won't matter so much in terms of cosmetic value...but i'm only saying that because i know i'm getting the job done tonight! Otherwise, i'd be using the silicone...
  13. The fan that i've installed replaces an earlier model but unfortunately, the holes don't match up so even though there are plugs in the wall, they don't connect with the holes in the new fan. I managed to convince my husband that if i get the drill from the cellar and set it up then he'll do it for me tonight! Hurray!
  14. Hmm, yes. I contacted someone off here to come and do a quote for me last Saturday and they didn't turn up nor answer my call tut tut
  15. When the coaltion came into power i anticipated the fact that it would require more negotiation than if it was a 1-party government. I feel that the parties have become too bullish in their policy making and failed to consult the public. Therefore, a coalition would help change that and encourage negotiation. However, the problem with U-turns is that the negotiation takes place after the policy has been announced! They need to spend more time thinking through their ideas, negotiating with each other and the public before announcing their decisions.
  16. A feminist is anyone who wants equal rights for women - in which case i'd hope that most people are
  17. I dress up nice to make myself feel good, not because i want to be judged by what i'm wearing
  18. Its not just about the girls who work there though - its about the wider impact it has on the objectification of women and there are numerous other factors that contribute to this
  19. And why is it that its mostly women that do the shopping and cleaning etc...that's a whole other issue but another one that gets my goat. Its the old story of the woman being a dutiful wife and mother in the kitchen, and a minx in the bedroom - we're expected to do everything and be everything!
  20. Ah yes but then isn't that the case with strip clubs? Either way, it exacerbates sexist ideas about women
