  1. As a professional who is still coming to grips with it and understanding it I like how it is standardised and how it will raise the standard of certain aspects of care. I like how childcare providers are required to work in partnership regarding care for the children. When I was inspected the inspector liked what I had done so far with the EYFS but I know I need to work more on next steps and the overall picture. i.e the tick boxes. when I was inspected I had 2 under 5's for 3 hours a week, so I don't think I saw them enough to warrant all the tick boxes and they didnt attend other settings Ask me again what I think of EYFS in 12 months. As a parent I am not so sure, I will let you know once I have managed to get my hands on my daughters learning journal (currently I cm part time and work part time till I can cm full time and quit work) Zebra - As you have knowledge of the ins and outs of the EYFS I would be challenging your nursery to ask them how they are providing new learning experiences seeing that both your girls are above the required targets. My little girl is a placid happy little thing, so its easy for her to get over-looked in favour of children who are not so happy. The nursery she goes to 2 days a week make sure she is not left out and recieves as much attention as the others. My dd is 18 months
  2. I have a wormery so I was going to feed my potatoes some worm tea I had mine in a trug last year and the yeild wasnt massive, although truly scrumptious. going to see if heeley city farm will let me have a small bag of well rotted manure too
  3. ok really daft questions but... what does 'well rotted' generally mean? does it smell?? is it safe for children to be around. i.e if its on my spuds
  4. thing is most places only give 10% off, like mothercare did, so it might not be worth the fuel down and then entry price...
  5. I went to the one at birmingham and it was rammed!!! the only thing I purchased was a maternity pillow from the mothercare stand... it is good but very busy
  6. I third the checking people out that zebra and bonny have said. Childminders will have Enhanced CRB disclosures along with every person in their household who are over 16. Ask to see them along with their registration certficate and qualification certificates. I have mine either proudly displayed on the walls of my hall or in my portfolio or continuous professional development log
  7. cm's do take children for full days, sometimes even longer hours than nurseries! When considering fees I think its a good idea to find out what you are getting for you money rather than just comparing an hourly rate. I know I charge 25p more per hour than my local childrens centre, but I include meals for under 8's where as the childrens centre charges seperately for food or parents have to take their own. All local outings are included in my rates too. So in comparison to my local childrens centre even though on paper it looks more, I work out slightly cheaper
  8. I just used bought compost?? will this be ok??? The stuff that the wormery is churning out is not quite ready yet...
  9. Hi Parents... Just wanting some views on what you think of the above. Having read some posts on Netmums it seems that Childminders are not regarded very highly and that in some cases we are seen as glorified babysitters and not much more. I don't think that some people realise how much work we do. How many hours out of the core childcare hours we put in completing paperwork and attending training and worksops to better the care we offer children, the service we offer parents and to better our own professional development. I am not having a whinge or a moan,I love the work I do and I am genuinely interested to find out why parent chose cm's over a nursery or a nursery over a cm.
  10. I you feel that taking your LO to a nursery setting will be too much too soon, then why not consider a childminder who could offer the free flexible nursery hours. I am hoping to offer this from September. This way they get the home environment, they will have 1 carer and can form a close bond with that carer, a smaller setting, plus the pros like socialising at toddler groups, going to libraries, parks and farms. Having home cooked/prepared food. Its a good compromise!!
  11. I really wouldnt get your dp to start his paternity till your in established labour!! we wasted all my df's by the time I got out of hospital so pleased you got a decent consultant, it must only have been that got the pig headed man
  12. I am not sure what the individual breakdowns are untill I get my report through but overall I have receieve a 'Good' grading! Really pleased as I have put in a lot of hard work.
  13. I had osteopathy, physio, the works, it eased the symptoms but didnt make them go away...it did help. the only thing that made the symptoms go away was having no baby in there!! I personally thing that it was babies head that was wedged that caused all the pain but 4th consultant (even longer story) seems to think that If I were to have another i would get it again induction is truly awful, really truly awful. get yourself comfy at home and get your fella/family to fetch and carry after you. btw gas and air made me sick, it aint for everyone!!
  14. It all depends on the consultant. I had an absolute nightmare with SPD. I was on crutches and my consultant said point blank no. I saw my midwife again who got me an apt with a different consultant as I was also huge, mostly water we later found out. He agreed to induce me, it failed, so I was booked for a section. unfortunately it was consultant number 1 day on labour ward and so because I had bruised his male ego by asking for a second opinion he sent me home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! even though when I first met him he said a failed induction meant you had a section. I got sent home dead on 40 weeks, babies fetal traces showed decreased variability in them and still he sent me home. I saw a third consultant as by now I was 40+4. They agreed to try induction again, They broke my waters, there was masses of meconium and she carried on passing meconium and then her heart kept dipping, after labouring all night, they did a emergency section, her head had not dropped. She was wedged fast in my pelvis. She was not coming out without help. Its upto you, but really, induction is stressful, you wait around for hours, you spend days and nights on the maternity ward as they will only put the pessarys in on labour ward. they monitor the babies heart before they put them in, during and after. I know its painful, believe me I know. But you will be more comfortable at home with your own things, in your own bed. You will not be on a bay with other pregnant mums. with no space and listening to them snore!!!
  15. my LO has been attached to a tigger comforter since birth. tigi tig goes everywhere... we purchased a second tig tig to leave at my mums as a spare and also so we can wash tig tig mark one. She can tell the difference, despite washing and muckying the 'imposter' it amazes me!
  16. Hi I am an Ofsted Registered Childminder. If you are wanting someone to keep an eye on the little ones to give parents chance to enjoy themselves for a few hours then please get in touch. If I know the ages of the children who will be there then I can plan an actvity and bring all the resources with me. My website is http://www.flutterbyes.org.uk Thanks Joy
  17. yes you can worm dog poo, there is a company on e-bay that sells dog poo worm kits but I am sure you cant feed the worms anything else. and obv if the dog has been given worming tablets then the poos following cant be fed to the worms
  18. wilkos have a sack of main crop seed potatoes, 3kg for £3 or so... I dont have masses of room in my garden. I am putting them in pots and sharing the pots with the parents of the children I look after so that we can all enjoy some home grown fruit and veg.. problem is, I will never use 3kg of seed spuds. so dont see the point of paying £3 to waste most of them... I have 16 earlies going in. (gil gave me 12, 6 first early, 6 second early and I got 4 from the potatoes from schools scheme) so if anyone wants to swap/share or you have a few left over that you would like to give to us, they will be put to great use as an educational resource for the children and then we will enjoy eating fresh potatoes! thanks
  19. I got mine from ebay, they were bog standard really basic ones but they worked. I got a positive predictor one and then a few weeks later I used pregnancy ones from the same seller and I have no patience I tested very very early and I got the faintest of pink lines then they became stronger by the day, 16 months later and she is commanding the house!
  20. we got lovely flowers for both my nans and grandpa funeral from daisy chain which is on those shops as you drive past intake and go up the hill towards crystal peaks area, dont know the road name
  21. mine is in my bathroom and it thrives in there!!!
