  1. I remember my Dad had a van called a Trogan in the mid 50s to 1960. It was chain driven and had to be crank started, we went all over in it, broke down once on the Blackpool front at night, we had to sleep in it till daylight. I have a pic of it with me and my sister in front of it but dont know how to put it on here!!!
  2. Hi. We moved to reney cresent from hillsborough where my parents lived with my nan in rudyard rd, my sister was a few months old so it must have been over crowding why we moved. Us kids loved it, no more having a bath in front of the fire. I remember my nan used to visit mainly just to have a long soak, hot water on tap, no more boiling the kettle to keep the bath hot. I cant remember gervase ave, as behind us was open grass land with buildings going up all over the place which may have been Gervase Ave amongst them. I remember that there was gangs of us little kids roaming all over the waste land all from different parts of Sheffield. There was a picture house close by where, 'if it was your Birthday they would give you a bag of dolly mixtures. All the kids had a birthday every week.. lol. Went to Greenhill school, all modern compared to Morley St School in Hillborough. All us kids used to play on the roundabout nr the school, ' thought it was a playground. The other roundabout at the top where you lived wasn't there as far as I can remember. Us kids used to walk to Millhouses park to watch the steam trains go by from a wooded hill opposite the park, average age of us must have been 6 to 10, couldn't do it these days, happy times.
  3. Would like to own an old black leaded fire these days. my Mam and Nan used to make bread in it. Would save a fortune in gas and electric these days..happy days
  4. My Nan used to say...this place needs a good fettling, and the fire needs black leading, it,s filthy. And now 59 years later I say the same to my wife every spring ; apart from black leading the fire. moved from Sheffield in the late 50s, so I think it means the place wants decorating
  5. I e/mailed you ages ago but got no reply
  6. Grenhill. did anyone live on the new estate at grenhill in the mid 50s, I can remember a friend of my mums called Mrs Pickins, she had two Dtrs called Diane & Sandra ? The Barlows from number 25 Reney Cresent, A son called Reggie and a Dtr Julie. up the road was a family called the Dogsworths, the Dad was a miner...I can still smell the newly painted rooms I was about 6 or 7 years old:)
  7. 1952. Morley St School, Hillsborough. we was made to go to sleep on cocoa nut matting beds on the floor, most of us had one eye open !!!!
  8. I remember the coronation, I was 5, it was pouring with rain all day. I lived at Rudyard Road Hillsborough. It was a dead end road and all the adults had a sheet across the road to shelter from the rain, I think i went to Morley St school back then.
  9. Hi Ttourtell If you can remember the chestnut seller from the early 50s that was my Dad, his name was Vic Plowman, his mate Ron Broomhead from Rotherham used to help him on Saturdays
  10. Kenneth and Sylvia West took on my Nans house when she went to live in Meersbrook, My Mum & Dad moved to Grenhill before that.
  11. Thanks Hillsboro. I just wrote a load of memories and when i sent them it wouldn't go. Will try again tomorrow, many thanks for your help.
  12. I remember a Mrs Kay. My Mum used to get her what was known as pork chaps, I used to have to deliver them and one day i dropped the bag and out fell these jaw bones with teeth, then i really though she was a witch, she gave me a farthing to spend at the corner shop which i think was Masseys, so she wasn't that bad. Can anyone remember Mrs West, she lived a few doors up from the man down the bottom who kept pigs, opposite lived the Spates who had a Dtr called Christine, and next to them lived Mr & Mrs Froggart, Mrs Froggart worked in Bassetts allsorts. Next to Mrs West lived Mr & Mrs Alfie Littlewood, there Son Stevie, and Dtr Maureen. Mrs West was my Nan, can anyone remember them
