Hi, does anyone know of any unusual places to stay in Sheffield? Not a hotel or B&B. I've seen something on the houseboats but wondered if there was anywhere else a bit unusual. Thanks

Where can i get a dress altered quickly?
julie-writer replied to julie-writer's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Ok thanks. I just thought someone on here might have used somewhere for alterations themselves so may be able to help. Either that or might have a friend who does repairs or something. The reason for not getting out the phone book is that I thought I may be able to get a 'heads up' tonight so I can take it first thing in the morning. -
Where can i get a dress altered quickly?

Does anyone know where I can get a silk dress altered? Tomorrow if possible! I'm at S20 so near there ideally but I'm going near Meadowhall tomorrow so could take it anywhere near or between either location. The alteration I'm wanting isn't very drastic, just something cutting off and sewing up at the ends. -
Unusual business start-ups
julie-writer replied to julie-writer's topic in Sheffield Business & Employment
I do some business writing and am always looking for new companies to profile. Just anything that's a bit different and that would make an interesting piece in a newspaper. -
Hi, I'm looking for some unusual businesses/ new start-ups in Sheffield. Things that are wacky/ different/ not the norm. Has anyone started anything like this?

Advice which website building "kit" to buy
julie-writer replied to amadeus1357's topic in Sheffield Business & Employment
Hi, I designed my own website using moonfruit. They have some nice templates and it's pretty easy to get a website up and running in a few hours. I already had a domain name so added that to the site, rather than using a moonfruit address. You can do either, it's up to you. The basic moonfruit websites are free so might be worth a try. -
Does anyone know if this is still on? And if so, has anyone been? I write for a living (copywriting etc) but have dreams of writing a novel one day and think a bit of encouragement/ criticism/ feedback etc might be a good way of making the dream a reality. Even though I find writing pretty easy, I find writing fiction a real challenge. One that I hope to overcome one day though!

Thanks for the info!

Thanks. As an example, if you knew that a magazine was going to be read only by your target market and would be distributed to 5,000 people within just a few miles of your business, how much would you be willing to pay for an ad? Ball park figure for say a quarter page, half page and full page? Thanks, I know it's difficult to really put a figure on it without knowing more info but I'm just looking for a rough idea at the moment!!

Thanks. I'm aware that prices will vary depending on requirements - was really just wondering if anyone had guidelines on going rates for say a free paper vs somewhere like the Sheffield Star. What would people suggest is a necessary circulation in order to get results? In all honesty it's not for promoting my own business, it's for a possible new venture. I'm interested in knowing what people's thoughts are on reasonable advertising prices and what sort of circulation figures would be needed in order to be attractive to advertisers.

Hi, I wondered if anyone had any idea about average rates for advertising in local media? I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but just wanting a rough idea of rates for advertising in places such as local newspaper, free newspapers, free magazines, anywhere else that people can think of with the aim of targeting customers in Sheffield. Thanks!

Handmade memory quilts for babies
julie-writer replied to julie-writer's topic in Sheffield Parenting Group
The price would purely cover time and a few materiala as you said. I also have a day job so would have to make it worth my while time-wise as otherwise i'd be giving up my personal time in the evenings for nothing! Material-wise I'd be providing the backing material for each quilt as well as the edging fabric- probably just a few pounds to cover this. Time-wise this type of quilt would take me around five or six hours to make so if I was selling for around £20 it would work out a very poor hourly rate! -

Thanks, that link works now. The quilt looks lovely - I can't believe the seller can make them for such a cheap price! I couldn't compete with that, no way! I think I'd have to charge double to be honest. Thanks for sharing the pic. Your little girl (I presume she's yours!) is lovely! She looks like she loves her new quilt -
Recommendations on where to buy fabric
julie-writer replied to Adz's topic in Sheffield Crafts Group
Hi, I went to the Castle Market fabric stall last week so can confirm it hasn't closed down! Also, Patchwork Garden on Abbeydale Road South has some gorgeous fabrics. There's a place at the bottom end of London Road too, (called the Fabric Warehouse, I think). That has lots of choice. -

I can't open the link Weenireeni - could you post the name of the seller you bought from? Or maybe upload a pic on here? I would be really interested to see the quilt! I can't seem to find any sellers on ebay doing this kind of thing - I must not be putting the right words in!
