  1. Glad to do this Good reiteration of the advice from SevenRivers but most children are , as you have previously said most likely to suffer at the hands of someone they know - or someone who they get to know via grooming. There really are not that many children snatched off the streets (by asians, east euopeans or aliens).
  2. Haha.........just cant help m'self. Nor can stop the googling : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2242751/Girl-nearly-goes-blind-inadvertently-eating-parasite-dog-mess-travelled-stomach-EYEBALL.html
  3. We had all this from him on the previous thread - helped along by Mr Smith and occasionally lil minx. Apparently its love.
  4. Yay - someone else who appreciates good food (and recognizes bad!)
  5. Doh ! I could have said that rather than quickly finding a couple of cases.
  6. Yes: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-11012044 poor little mite. and this lady: http://www.irishexaminer.com/archives/2013/0325/world/woman-wages-street-campaign-over-dog-poo-226409.html
  7. If the EDL hadn't made a show of putting the flowers there in the first place there would probably not have been trouble either. I put some at the Endcliffe Park memorial the other month and no one seemed to care.
  8. If they are the superior white race I wish I was orange...........not generally "lookers" are they.
  9. I think that's perhaps the answer! (but others are wary of accepting returns for "used" goods too).
  10. There is no legal right to return unless faulty. Shops that allow returns do it as good will.
  11. Anaxos is ok- but not as scenic as Molyvos - more of a beach with accommodation type of resort. It is near to Petra - my preference would be there. You can get buses from both , I think, to Molyvos. The other place perhaps worth looking at on Lesvos is Skala Erressos which we really like although it is little more isolated .
  12. You seem to love Lesbos as much as we do ! Eating at Molyvos harbour water side is lovely isnlt it ? and watching the sunset from the castle walls.
  13. It was lovely - nice castle , some good restaurants , pleasant harbour etc. A similar place (but a little hillier) is Molyvos on Lesbos- it is a cruise stop and has good links to the rest of the island.
  14. We went to Parga a few years ago and flew to Preveza.
  15. No but that's too short hence padding this reply.
  16. Jontys on Sharrowvale road is lovely - poached eggs and salmon or eggs benedict are my favorites. Here's a link: http://www.madebyjonty.co.uk/ a little bit out of the city centre but not too far!
  17. And of that 250 approx 30 or so are from "disadvantaged backgrounds" - so not vast. Not denying there are some talented teachers there (some very, some not so good) but that will be the same as the teachers in FV, Yewlands and Stocksbridge. What makes the real difference is the parental support that some can give.
  18. What nonsense : they don't have vast cohorts from a range of backgrounds! They have 3 feeder schools 2 of which are firmly in S10! hardly a deprived ward. The majority of the school intake is from Lydgate which serves a quite affluent neighbourhood. Did you not see the rest of the input parents make and the effect that has on learning and results. Take that away and Tapton (ans similar schools) would not get the results they do.
  19. The picture that has been removed is being used in many of the online newspapers. It sounds like absolute horror.
  20. A quick count up gives me 10 out of 40 kids I know - so not the 75% ratio of mine - but still 25%. The support mine have had from tutors has been invaluable to supplement / cement the subjects being taught ....... wouldn't want to give the impression it has been continuous / for years as it hasn't but when "blips" have occurred it has helped. In addition many parents of these schools supplement the learning in other ways - eg it is much easier to learn about Rome if you have been there. or know about an artist because you have visited their work . We recently attended the theater as a family to help one child who was studying a certain play. Also families attending these schools are generally more able to buy study aides and the like so again supplementing the education received or themselves are well educated so more able to provide support. I question whether without all of this input those schools deemed to be outstanding still be judged to be. And if other parents could give it would those schools that are failing still be.
  21. I agree its no coincidence at all . ---------- Post added 22-05-2013 at 15:24 ---------- Agreed - and all the kids know who those teachers are.
