  1. Bought this now so will see what happens!
  2. Strange - I was in the area at that time and didn't hear anything!
  3. Thanks for replies and suggestions everyone!
  4. As per title - can anyone recommend a decent paint/primer etc to cover water stains on a ceiling before re-painting? I have looked at reviews of products and not found anything worth buying - even Ronseal got bad reviews. Thank you
  5. Went into Virgin bank in Hillsborough this morning and must admit I was taken aback somewhat by the 'relaxed' dress code but I have finally learned never to judge people on their appearance! Having said that it's taken me some time to adopt this attitude as I'm now 70!! Some of the nicest, most generous people I know would never think to enter a fashion parade but It's what's inside that counts and I'd rather have that type of person than a person wearing designer gear and plumped full of synthetic body parts!
  6. Unbearably sad and yet uplifting. 😪
  7. Thank you-it was amazing and definitely worth getting frozen to see!
  8. Went out into Bradfield to look for Northern Lights last night. No joy but did see a weird phenomenon I've not seen before. It was a large hazy circle of cloud surrounding the moon. Thought it might have been a moon bow but doesn't seem to fit the description properly. Couldn't see any colour in it and moon bows are not near the moon apparently and only occur when raining which it wasn't. Assume it must be to do with freezing conditions. Any ideas anyone?
  9. You missed out the golden age of music - not gonna hear the likes of The Beatles or the Rolling Stones lasting 50 years again.
  10. That's very interesting-thanks for the info.
  11. Remember when there used to be decent(free!) bands playing in Weston Park on the bandstand - prob late 60s/early 70s. Think they were Sundays but not sure?
  12. Grandson insists he saw this in Sheffield city centre today but can't find out any info. Anyone else seen it?
  13. I am in urgent need of someone who can look after a female lab in their own home at the beginning of May for about 10 days. Any recommendations?TIA
  14. Last year the carnival was much reduced and was called something like 'Bring Your Own Picnic Gala Day. Similar thing happening this year with fewer stalls and commercialism due to shortage of volunteers.
  15. Oh right-that would explain it but didn't notice that when i looked at their website. Still got the problem of the big empty factory on Holme Lane though.
  16. All I can think of is to imagine the psychological trauma to everyone involved if it does turn out the be her.
  17. Anyone know what's happened? Holme Lane factory - which has been there as long as I can remember, looks as though it's closed down - no lights on anywhere and car park locked. Pity if it's re-located - another Sheffield icon disappeared.
  18. I fell out with Morrisons when they got rid of their garden section - had some fantastic bargains over the years. Also they've stopped selling a lot of my favourite things - egg custard mixes, small Red Leicester cheese packets, garden bin bags, Bradwells ice-cream etc. I know it's first-world problems though and I need to get a life! Also apparently they have lost a lot of staff since the take-over - they are very unhappy. Noticed this morning that there are even more self-service tills with larger packing areas so no doubt there'll be more redundancies coming up.
  19. I think there is more than one problem in this debate. I know a family of 5 who are all overweight. They have an adopted daughter who I assume had the same diet/lifestyle as them but remains skinny in her 40s. However, the other side to this coin is the oft-quoted saying that 'no-one came out of concentration camps overweight'. So it must be partly down to genetics , which obviously we can't do much about, but also down to personal lifestyle and diet - which we can control. Some people just draw the short straw in life and have to accept that and deal with it in whatever way is best for them.
  20. Our grandkids really enjoyed this last year looking for clues in shop windows etc-with a present at the end. It started from next to Millennium Gardens but can't find any info for this year. Anyone know if it's going ahead? Thank you.
  21. I live in Stannington and our home has been affected - no gas for the longest 3 days of my life. Electricity has been off in some areas too - fortunately not mine - due to overload of system by people using fan heaters which were given out by Cadent. We also were given a hotplate for cooking. A lot of homes still without gas. Cadent have been amazing - working fgrom 7am to 11pm. YW not so amazing... Great community spirit though - people offering food and lifts etc. Great place to live(normally!)
  22. Does anyone know if The Star has a specific day when they publish the results of court hearings and how long after the hearing this happens? Thank you in advance.
  23. The article says he is an emergency care worker who are on a lower salary than a paramedic, due to having lower qualifications and less responsibility, so £1300 is probably correct.
