  1. Anyone know where I would go to to get a guitar pedal fixed in town these days?
  2. Hello, I have desk space to rent in Sheffield centre, but I have no idea where on Sheffield Forum is the best place to advertise it. I would have assumed this forum, but the rules suggest it'll get removed. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.
  3. ... the XX, Jesus & Mary Chain, Tindersticks, FKA Twigs ... Guitarist looking for singer collaborator for making big sad quiet music.
  4. Hello, I am looking for musicians and whatnot to start a new band with, having done many things of this kind before. This will appeal if you like: - Messing about - Blur b sides - Rehearsing regularly - Music for dancing to - Playing instruments in the cold/dark - Exuberance I play guitar, so at this stage would be looking for the drums and bass to get things started. It will probably be a judicious mixture of originals and covers. I write songs, and there's some stuff in the bag to work with, but there will be plenty of room for ideas and improvisation, so that's fun for you if you like that type of thing. If it's important to you, I'm the dark side of 30 (but I have the wide-eyed optimism of a child). Get in touch through the usual means.
  5. I'm looking to rent a desk in a shared office or some cheap office space for one person. If anybody knows of anything going in Sheffield centre, please let me know.
  6. This band I'm in is winding down: https://soundcloud.com/ghostofalaska So I'm putting together something new. Continuing in the same vein it will be a bit surfy, a bit droney, a bit noisy, a bit dancey, occasionally stupid, elegantly chaotic, fun for everybody. Therefore I want to hear from musicians and performers of any background. This will suit you if you: Like making a lot of noise Like being quiet and restrained Have an opinion Are open minded musically Are more interested in ideas than technical capability Are interested in improvising around ideas and writing songs on the hoof Are a nice human. I am: male, guitarist, 35. Send me a pm or email on scarecrow.contact at gmail com.
  7. This band I'm in is winding down: https://soundcloud.com/ghostofalaska So I'm putting together something new. I'd like to continue in the same vein. That is: guitars and drums, smart tempos, elegant chaos and funny diversions. I am: willowy male, guitarist, 35, good collection of shirts. Send me a pm or email on scarecrow.contact at gmail com.
  8. I'm glad to hear that - I just got the guitar back from Steve at Wavelength. Seems like a good job so far, and plays a load better.
  9. Hello, I am a guitar playing man and song maker aged 35, looking for a female vocalist to work on writing songs at the drowsy, fuzzy, folky, droney end of things. You know the sort of thing: Mazzy Star, Nancy & Lee, Cocteau Twins, MBV, Broadcast, Velvets, Gorky's . . . Looking for singer with ideas, maybe some additional musical skills, for collaboration and performance. Just for fun. You know, for the kids. Have practice space and equipment, use of PA - all the stuff you need. Get in touch on [email protected], or PM.
  10. Thanks for the offer James. However, if I have to try and fix it up again I think it's getting smashed. I think I need to pay a professional to do it for me at this time.
  11. I need some help setting up a Fender Jaguar guitar. Basically, I've replaced the stock bridge, but I'm having trouble getting the action right, setting the intonation and basically getting it comfortable to play. It's all outside of my knowledge base. Can anyone recommend someone in SY who would know how to get the best out of this particular guitar for a reasonable price? Grateful for any help.
  12. Ghost of Alaska are a psych/pop/fuzz/adjective group living and working in Sheffield. We are a couple of gigs old, and are looking for new people to experiment musically with. There's very little point in listing music that we like, but certain things we have been compared to, or hope to be as good as, might include: Yo La Tengo, Aphex Twin, Broadcast, Deerhunter, St Vincent, Pavement, The Fall . . . We might be looking for a singer. Or a keyboard player. Or a guitarist. Or a combination of some or all of the above, or something we haven't thought about yet. This will suit persons with a love for beautiful music and healthy disregard for rules. Some experience would be good. The most important thing is a positive willingness to try things out, and an open musical mind. Get in touch for more information: [email protected] http://www.facebook.com/GhostOfAlaska
  13. If you can play guitar, or sing, or play keyboard, or do anything musical, then Ghost of Alaska want to speak with you. We are a three piece playing nice, noisy and fuzzy music in the vein of Deerhunter, Yo La Tengo, Ride, Pavement, Wild Flag and a ton of other things. We're looking for musicians to come and enhance our sound. We're not specific on what that might be - we're open to ideas. Also, none of us can sing, and it would be nice to meet someone who could. We have gigs, we have rehearsal space, we have songs. We are the world. Loads more info if you're interested. Get in touch, PM or [email protected]
  14. Please complete it. Contact [email protected] if you have our missing pieces.
  15. We are currently a guitarist, bassist and drummer playing slightly noisy, vaguely indie style rock music, and we are hoping to welcome a new musician into the fold. We have worked up a good number of songs and are aiming to start playing live soon. We're looking for a fourth person to bring their influence to our work and we're open minded as to what their particular skill might be, but if being able to sing is among those things, that would be amazing. Ideas and enthusiasm are more important than tons of skill and ability, though some experience might be a benefit. Here's some stuff we like: Lo-fi american stuff like early R.E.M., Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith, Pavement, Deerhunter . . . Interesting electronica and experimental business like Can, Aphex Twin, Mogwai, Neu!, Boards of Canada, Godspeed, Emeralds, Animal Collective, Islet, My Bloody Valentine . . . Syd Barrett, Velvet Underground, Broadcast, Low, Black Sabbath, Caribou, The Notwist . . . The list is long and progressively counterproductive. If this sounds like the kind of foolish yet glorious enterprise you want to be involved with, then get in touch for more talking. Either pm or leave some contact details below.
