  1. It's a first for ShAFF. A short video competition - open to everybody - with £500 up for grabs in prizes. Deadline is Feb 14th. Details here: http://www.shaff.co.uk/content/49/jagged-globe-video-comp
  2. Ian Parnell is an acclaimed mountaineer and photographer. He recently took over as editor in chief of Climb Magazine, the UK's favourite publication for climbers and mountaineers. He's summited Everest and climbed the Eiger with Sir Ranulph Fiennes. As part of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival Expert Nights Series he will give an illustrated lecture on climbing and mountaineering photography, both entertaining (he's a gifted public speaker) and inspiring (he'll be giving tips and advice on how to take better photographs). Friday Jan 28th. Showroom Cinema. 8pm. More info at http://www.shaff.co.uk
  3. All the info's in the link :-) We are setting up camp on the edge of Sheffield, just minutes from the Peak District and a short walk from this year's Cliffhanger festival, giving easy access to some of the best climbing in Britain, picturesque rivers, as well as miles of bridleways and footpaths for bikers and walkers to enjoy. So head out during the day then join us in the evening for camping, food, films, live music and dancing. The Big Shake Out is a great place from which to base a multi-activity weekend, meet up with like minded outdoor souls and enjoy the delights of Cliffhanger. This will be Alpkit's first Big Shake Out and we are keeping things small and manageable, so ticket numbers are limited. Tickets will allow up to 3 nights camping on the campground, entry into Cliffhanger and the World Cup bouldering event, as well as access to all the entertainments at the Shake Out. On Friday evening we'll hoist the Alpkit projection screen and, courtesy of Heason Events, will be showing some classic adventure films. We will then turn things up a little on Saturday Night as The Big Shake Out reaches its climax. So when the time comes you can let it all go, bust some funky moves and pull some awesome shapes. There will be live music onstage followed by a DJ set as the sun sets over the Peak District, playing a mix of mellow and funky tunes late into the evening. Facilities will include camping around a central entertainments marquee, communal BBQs, cooked food from our kitchen and drinks from a licensed bar. Tickets are available now through Alpkit.com. Bands / DJ's playing at The Shake Out: Thursday Night Early Birds Party: Renegade Brass Band King Capisce Neil McSweeney Friday Night Best Of ShAFF Films Saturday night Cliffhanger Party Na Zdrove Balkan Bandits All arranged by Opus / Regather / Alpkit / ShAFF

  6. The Sheffield Adventure Film Festival is back. Showcasing the best BLANK films from the past year, as well as adding a couple of newbies to the mix, ShAFF is really beginning to show its credentials in the adventure sport festival arena Split into 2 hour slots specific to their genre (such as adrenaline and mountains), a total of 44 films and 24 premieres will be shown over the course of three days. Add live music, photo exhibitions, book readings, and a kit sale to this and you can really appreciate the enormity of it all. Now 6 years old and with a 100% approval rating in the first 5, this year’s festival is surely a non miss. ShAFF 2010 will be held at the Showroom Cinema, Sheffield between the 12th and 14th March. 11. Hi Munky, Sorry you went alont last year expecting a beer tent. Not sure where yuo saw that advertised as it was something we decided not to do as the event was being held in Millhouses Park for the first time. I'll admit that climbnig is the main focus of the event, but to say that it is just a climbing event is a gross understatement. Last year there was also orienteering, scuba diving, mountain biking, caving, kite flying, snowboarding and skiing, sledging, angling, films, lectures, kayaking, parkour and more that I can't remember off hand. This year we've dropped the snow based stuff, but have added additional mountain biking, kayaking and scuba diving, a fell race, adventure race, minimountainmarathon, rollerskiing, a skateboarding half pipe and more. Really not sure what you expected for your £5, but I'm confident that it's good value for money. Somebody I spoke to from Hathersage who visited the event last year said that it was the best value event she'd ever been to! as regards the food I'm sorry you had to queue - we were indeed short of a few caterers last year, something we hope we've rectified this year, but once again you understate things. There were actually 7 outlets selling food there last year including Japanese, pancakes, baked potatoes, and the brilliant Millhouses Park cafe. I guess I'm not going to persuade you to come again this year, but just wanted to expand on the points you made for the benefit of anybody else reading this. Thanks, MattH
  12. Just flagging this up as the event is on in just under 2 weeks. Last year we received a fair amount of flack. Thankfully the event didn;t prove to be the moster that people thought it might. In fact, those who were most vocal in opposing it have welcomed it back again this year :-) It's on July 11 and 12 and there's a load of new stuff going on. Checkout the website for details. http://www.cliff-hanger.co.uk Also check out this video: Matt Heason, event organiser.
  13. Peak District legend Ron Fawcett will take to the stage tomorrow night to launch the 4th Sheffield Adventure Film Festival. See details at http://www.shaff.co.uk
  14.
