  3. Yea, I would be interested as to why? The only photo I have of my Dad was of him and some other chaps moving from Crimicar Lane to Lodge Moor Hospital in an ambulance. About early 50's I think.
  4. Yea I think probably so Vera. I was about 8-10 and listened to grown-up conversations. I would love to tell you a very funny one I heard but decorum stops me. He was I think squinty eyed. We came to Oz end '74 so you beat us to it.
  5. Don't know if they'd be the same Stuarts but when we lived on Shirecliffe the name of the coalman was Alf Stuart- he had quite a rep as a try-to-be ladies man. Gee I don't know where I keep bringing up these memories from??
  6. My heroes would be: Christopher Reeves- he never gave up. Maggie Thatcher My husband who has put up with me for nearly fifty years- he deserves a medal!!
  7. Hazel, I know I'm a relative newcomer but I'd just like to say I think you're being pretty damn brave- I doubt I could do it. Hope all goes well for you - and you'll have your doubts but be firm. And if he should change his ways- who knows? I am a persistent romantic fool sorry. Love Mary
  8. Hi Gleighton, Unbelievable that the little jewellers is still going- the one I meant was way down the bottom end of the road Banners was on- towards the road Sanderson B&N were on. Wished I'd known it was still there when I was in Sheffield a few years ago. Regards x
  9. Oops forgot my husband worked at Sanderson Bros & Newbould for years before we left for Oz.
  10. I suppose I could claim to be from Attercliffe- I was born in Princess Street where my Dad's family had lived and my Mother lived in Chatham Street. I don't remember much because we moved to Shirecliffe. Do remember Banners of course and I got my Engagement ring from a small jewellers the same road as Banners.
  11. I was a Kay before marraige and my Mothers sister married a Drabble- this the sort of info of any use? Mary
  12. Hello Hazel, I'm so glad you brought up this subject. In the short time I've been on the Forum I feel that a couple of times I have been too "glib" for want of a better word in replying before I've really thought it out. So may I say sorry to anyone I've been less than thoughtful to?
  13. Your welcome Fareast, actually I thought about the song after posting and remembered more- here goes Dooley the centre forward had a very awkward style And if you ever saw him you'd see it sticking out a mile All of the other players laughed at him and called him names They wouldn't let poor Dooley play in any firstteam games Then one foggy winters day (manager?) came to say Dooley with your hair aflame won't you play in Sat'days game Oh how the crowds all loved him and they shouted out with glee Dooley the centre forward you'll go down in history. And he did!! Nan
  14. Love poetry -write it too. But here are a couple of nonsense rhymes- Not mine. Opening a tin of plums Father severed both his thumbs Mother said amidst the screevches "I distinctly askes for peaches" When cousin Cuthbert came to stay He would not join us in our play Just stood around and looked aloof Until I pushed him from the roof I did not stay to hhear the crunch I would have been SO late for lunch

  16. I expect most people have felt like this at some stage in life. The trick is to don't let life get your down- chin up girl- one cannot re-do the past so leave it just there-in the past. Regards Nan
  17. Fareast I think it went along the lines of: And if you ever saw him you'd see it sticking out a mile....... (and then) Dooley with your hair aflame wo'nt you play in Sat'days game? I loved him to bits and it was a real tragedy- saw him sometime later at a benefit and he was a lovely fella.
  18. My Mam used to serve up this revolting tripe & onion in milk. Never eaten any of the other offal although I do like Liver & onions. AND I'm sure Owdlads was a typo error- although I agree
