My embarrassing moment happened many years ago, but never forgotten; I was obviously pregnant and this thoughtful young man stood up to give me his seat. In the meantime an older man nipped into the seat PDQ, not seeing this I swung around the young man, bus swaying, and landed right into the older ones lap. I got up and said sorry, he said harrumph shook out his newspaper and started to read. The young man and I were totally convulsed with laughter and I just shrugged and said 'Let it go'. # 23 bus was the bus,

Had relatives living on Honeysuckle in the 50's and very early 60's and remember the loo / bath arrangements etc as though yesterday. Entering the back door (off the Green) the toilet was on your right (with a door of course). Directly ahead was the coal house / storage and you turned left into the kitchen. Directly opposite your entrance to the kitchen was the bath with covering hardboard when not in use. Immediately to your left on entering the kitchen was a gas boiler (copper)? - then the sink and cooker from memory. So in a nutshell - if you wanted a bath the only doors were the 'inside' back door and the door leading into the living room - putting the kitchen out of bounds for the duration. Hope this helps - by the way they lived opposite 2 police houses / wonder if still there?Exactly as I remember Beady, dreadful arrangement, and as the eldest and only girl bath night was fight night for anyone who dared peep.

Yes I do remember... during the war I queued with Mum, outside there, to get a few pieces of coal in a sack we were allocated. I have the feeling it was a one off because I only remember the one time.

Thank you to all who have contacted me regarding this song. Just played the you-tube version to my brother-in-law over the phone. He said thank you to you all. He is over the moon, after all these years he now has the title. What a great site this is. Many thanks.Â
You are very welcome.

If by any chance they were the Keetons of Woodhouse that may be a good place to start. There are a couple of books about Woodhouse which I believe are still available.

Don't smsoke in Bed .....Peggy Lee, my then boyfriend intorduced me to this song , sang it actually, and I thought he was making it up and stalked off in a huff. Had second thoughts tho and after 57 yrs married I still love the song and the memories and the old man of course.
