  1. From my youth its Marlpes,The stonhouse, the fountain bar and legends (all town) and the white bear in ecco In recent (ish) times The Sicey at shiregreen and lady's bridge in town and very recently The Highgreave in ecco
  2. dont blame them at all loobyloo as i have already said, was just stating it as 1 of the reasons trade started to decrease, and i totally agree people can go wherever they choose. And i also know the people who ran it,say hi to mad dog and lisa next time you see them and hope her foot is mended
  3. Well if you paid to gain entry then you were definetly in the minority and cant have been that much of a regular, the regulars didnt need tickets and jeannie used to put on a bit of grub for anyone who wanted it in there not only on NYE,games nights, disco & karaoke nights, poker nights ect,she never charged for it and yes the lounge side was closed occasionally for functions, but you name me 1 pub that doesnt do the same, and if the regualrs wanted to drift into the party later on then nothing was said, god they even used to help themselves to the buffet, old viv used to run people over to get to the buffet table. YES the regulars kept the place going but they were well looked after
  4. lol no doubts, and they will still be complaining about the price
  5. The place isnt becoming a funeral parlour as such,it is to be a meeting place for people before they go to the funeral (got it on good authority),there were 3 other bids who wanted to keep the place as a pub but the people who have it now paid over the asking price and brewery grabbed it, and as for the pub itself it was a cracking little pub with some bloody good punters and damned good bar staff Its downfall started when a bunch of regulars followed a certain crowd when the malthouse re-opened after refurbishment (not blaming them),plus the brewery seriously didnt help regarding ground rent and beer prices,as any regular will tell you jeannie always left it as late as she could before applying the increase in price. Miss a hell of a lot of punters from there, even the coffin dodgers playing cribb on a friday night Jeannie has a new pub now Crown Inn at ellsecar
  6. WRONG....the ticket scheme was to keep out the unwanted on new years eve (once a year drinkers,****** up idiots ect ect) just so the regulars were guaranteed a place and none of the regulars actually paid to get in,the 'tickets' were non existant to regulars, and as for the parties they were very rare, unless jeannie knew who's party it was then it was unlikely she would agree to it. And to suggest the regulars would get banned at the weekend is bang out of order, the regulars kept the place going and if there was a party in the lounge then its ten to a penny the regulars knew who's party it was and would join in the party
