  1. The vans used in the 60's - 70's by Sheffield Transport were mainly B.M.C. 6 or 10cwt .

    They were painted blue halfway up , then cream ,then a black roof .These were between '69-'73. There was also 2 bigger Karrier 3 ton "cash vans" mid 60's then 2 newer Commer versions. There was also a Land Rover -XWJ 609G , also a Fordson Tractor - KWJ 681- and 1 ton Leyland Comet lorry - RWE 101 - both of which are preserved at SYTM Aldwalke.

    Thanks for that information; don't suppose you know if any photos exist?

  2. I remember, growing up in the 1980s/90s, that SYT used a variety of support vehicles (the misc. feet) painted up in the same liveries as the buses; Transits & Land Rovers etc.

    Im curious; i've never seen any such vehicles in the Sheffield Transport (pre SYPTE) colours. Im sure theres someone who can shed some light here.... maybe even some photos??

  3. Anyone know what is happening along Abbeydale Road South, near the bottom of Dore Road?

    The side between the minature railways and Dore Road is the only part that has not has the new street lights installed yet and with the tree clearing going on... it looks to me like they could be widening the road (to put a central 'turn-right' lane in for the new park and ride car park)... maybe i'm wrong though..

    Any ideas???

  4. hi there`s a garden/tool shop at the end of abbey lane.not far from the abbey pub.collections are on a Tuesday.very reasonable prices

    the hardware shop??... Used to buy all my sandpaper from there when i lived inWoodseats as it was about 1000 times better than Homebases!

  5. The first vehicle with blue wheel hubs was Atlantean/Park Royal No340 which was exhibited at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1963/4. This was also the first in the fleet to have blue moquette seats on both decks. The rest of the vehicles delivered in1964/5 which were Atlantean/Neepsends and Fleetline/Park Royals had normal red wheel hubs and red/beige seats downstairs and red leather upstairs. All the Atlantean/Park Royals and Atlantean/Neepsends together with the "cabbage wagon" Bedford/Craven No1delivered in 1966 had blue wheel hubs and with the exception of No1 had rear wheel trims. The top deck seats were blue leather whilst those on the bottom deck were moquette. Atlantean/Park Royal No192(I think), the one displyed at Earls Court in 1968 had red/cream front wheel hubs whilst the rear ones were red.

    Thats fantastic info SUTman; thank you!! [don't suppose you've got any colour pics?]

  6. Am perhaps a little behind here;

    is the new car park a 'pay & display' type park and ride? Can't see them spending all this money on making a new car park and letting people park there for free, heaven forbid!!

    So, there be a few cars in the car park and the rest on the verge opposite or clogging up Dore Road..... Just as before then!! Just like Millhouses Park too.... Abbeydale Road South clogged up with parked cars and more-or-less empty car parks!

  7. We're looking into getting a new kitchen in the next couple of months, and thought the sales mights be a good place to start. Just wondered what the good folks of Sheffield had in the way of suggestions or experience comments? We were looking initially at Howdens or Wickes but are open to other ideas. We don't need appliances or fitting just the units and tops. Cheers!
