The vans used in the 60's - 70's by Sheffield Transport were mainly B.M.C. 6 or 10cwt .They were painted blue halfway up , then cream ,then a black roof .These were between '69-'73. There was also 2 bigger Karrier 3 ton "cash vans" mid 60's then 2 newer Commer versions. There was also a Land Rover -XWJ 609G , also a Fordson Tractor - KWJ 681- and 1 ton Leyland Comet lorry - RWE 101 - both of which are preserved at SYTM Aldwalke.
Â
Thanks for that information; don't suppose you know if any photos exist?

This is about the only photo i can find of a support van; http://www.flickr.com/photos/34856582@N07/5532375781/
Â
What did Sheffield Transport (pre-SYPTE) use? Im looking for pics mainly of the vans
-
I remember, growing up in the 1980s/90s, that SYT used a variety of support vehicles (the misc. feet) painted up in the same liveries as the buses; Transits & Land Rovers etc.
Â
Im curious; i've never seen any such vehicles in the Sheffield Transport (pre SYPTE) colours. Im sure theres someone who can shed some light here.... maybe even some photos??

Just spoke to yorkshire water as our water has been off for a while and the pipes have been banging;theres a burst main in the S17 area. An inspector is on his way to investigate and they will repair as soon as possible.
-
We've lost it in Bradway too... surely can't be connected?! Anyone know anything??
Â
Just phoned yorks water; burst pipe in S17!

According to http://v5.roadworks.org, there are roadworks as follows:Â
Thats further along, near Totley. This is opposite the new car park, in/at the ends of the house gardens. Might be connected i guess?

Anyone know what is happening along Abbeydale Road South, near the bottom of Dore Road?
The side between the minature railways and Dore Road is the only part that has not has the new street lights installed yet and with the tree clearing going on... it looks to me like they could be widening the road (to put a central 'turn-right' lane in for the new park and ride car park)... maybe i'm wrong though..
Â
Any ideas???

hi there`s a garden/tool shop at the end of abbey lane.not far from the abbey pub.collections are on a Tuesday.very reasonable pricesÂ
the hardware shop??... Used to buy all my sandpaper from there when i lived inWoodseats as it was about 1000 times better than Homebases!
-
Co-incidence?....
Saw a Chinook helicopter fly over Bradway this afternoon... Not exactly a regular sight inour skies!
-
Does anyone know somewhere in Sheffield that still does sharpening of garden shears... mine are so blunt it would be more effective to cut the grass with the kids knife and fork!
-
I could be wrong; but im sure i noticed the 'leaning lampost' was like that before the contractors finished and cleared all the equipment etc away. No doubt hours of red-tape to get through to fix it, despite the fact they were still on site at the time!

The first vehicle with blue wheel hubs was Atlantean/Park Royal No340 which was exhibited at the Earls Court Motor Show in 1963/4. This was also the first in the fleet to have blue moquette seats on both decks. The rest of the vehicles delivered in1964/5 which were Atlantean/Neepsends and Fleetline/Park Royals had normal red wheel hubs and red/beige seats downstairs and red leather upstairs. All the Atlantean/Park Royals and Atlantean/Neepsends together with the "cabbage wagon" Bedford/Craven No1delivered in 1966 had blue wheel hubs and with the exception of No1 had rear wheel trims. The top deck seats were blue leather whilst those on the bottom deck were moquette. Atlantean/Park Royal No192(I think), the one displyed at Earls Court in 1968 had red/cream front wheel hubs whilst the rear ones were red.Â
Thats fantastic info SUTman; thank you!! [don't suppose you've got any colour pics?]

Is there anyone out there who can confirm/provide details (or has any photos) of buses in Sheffield Transport livery that ran with blue wheels instead of the regular red ones?
I am particularly interested in any Atlanteans running with blue wheels.

Am perhaps a little behind here;
Â
is the new car park a 'pay & display' type park and ride? Can't see them spending all this money on making a new car park and letting people park there for free, heaven forbid!!
Â
So, there be a few cars in the car park and the rest on the verge opposite or clogging up Dore Road..... Just as before then!! Just like Millhouses Park too.... Abbeydale Road South clogged up with parked cars and more-or-less empty car parks!

Was gonna ask the same question.... brown water and down on pressure thismorning in Bradway, but seems ok this evening.

With the M&S supermarket down the other end of Eccey Road, then im guessing another Tesco would be a better bet?

There's a large shelter under the grounds of King Edward VIII School - see here.Â
Great article! Does anyone know if what they planned actually happened? The date on the article is 2005 so i'd have thought they'd be done by now!
Would love to hear from anyone who's been down if it has been opened up.

That is the one. Yes.Â
Then yes, thats the tower im curious about!
-
Is that the on eyou can see over to the right as you drive towards the Strines Inn (from A57)?
-
Always been fascinated by the Tower near Bradfield; have heard several stories as to its reason/past... wondered if anyone can shine more light on it for me?

Did a bit of shopping around and have put together a kitchen from Wren. Havent actually ordered yet, just wondered if anyones got experience of them?
Price is good, and have sourced identical appliances online for less.
-
We're looking into getting a new kitchen in the next couple of months, and thought the sales mights be a good place to start. Just wondered what the good folks of Sheffield had in the way of suggestions or experience comments? We were looking initially at Howdens or Wickes but are open to other ideas. We don't need appliances or fitting just the units and tops. Cheers!

Janet, from what i remember of the inside ( i wasnt in for long as it was summer so we went and sat outside) it looked as if it hadnt changed for years. Might well have looked very similar to what it did 40 years ago!

Just wondered if anyone else is having issues with EE broadband? The home phone works fine but Reuter does not want to play ball. It was fine this morning but tonight it's not working.
