  1. The Piccolo was definitely nearer the top of Cambridge Street about next door but 2 to The Albert. My sisters and I often went in for tea after school when we lived at The Albert circa 1972 - where Yates is now. There was a clothes shop next door too - I remember they sold velvet ‘loon’ trousers in every colour - piles of them in the window. Plus plenty of those stinky Afghan coats. You could always smell incense when you went past. Very hippy chic.
  2. Too funny not to share ? This is the legit way threads work.... Q: How many people does it take to change a lightbulb on Sheffield Forum? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed. 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently. 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs. 6 to argue over whether it's 'lightbulb' or 'light bulb.' Another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid. 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is 'lamp.' 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry and that 'light bulb' is perfectly correct. 19 to post that this page is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a light bulb page. 11 to defend the posting to this page saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant here. 36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and which brands are faulty. 5 People to post pics of their own light bulbs. 15 people to complain about other people being judgemental for the way in which they change their light bulbs. 7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs. 4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's. 5 to post to the page that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy. 4 to say "Didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 13 to say "Do a search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs." 1 to bring politics into the discussion by adding that (insert politician of choice) isn't the brightest. 4 more to get into personal attacks over their political views. 5 people to get sidetracked on a discussion about bacon and coffee and how the only reason we need light bulbs is that we can see them to cook them. 1 admin to ban the light bulb posters for inserting political discussion and close the thread.

  7. So what? You don't have to know someone to be affected by their tragic death at such a young age and as an innocent in a freak accident. I felt the same about the innocent people killed on Saturday in the air show disaster. That was before we watched our friend get killed on live TV on Sunday night, doing what he loved best. To paraphrase someone else "Justin Wilson is the best racing driver you've never heard of" I am glad that people are now knowing just how special Justin was and that no-one, without exception, has a bad word to say about him. I feel privileged to call Justin and his whole family my friends and messages of sympathy and support brings comfort to those who knew and loved him. If you DO want to know more about our gentle friend, I urge you to go to racer.com and read articles by David Malsher, Robin Miller and Marshall Pruett. Thank you for your respectful comments. ---------- Post added 27-08-2015 at 12:11 ---------- I will also add that you probably never knew Justin Wilson or the huge hole his passing has left in international motor racing because the local rag have failed miserably in their reporting of his tragic death. They even had a picture of Scott Fixon, a NZ driver colleague, captioned as him at one time this week. I have read numerous obituaries in various online publications and even the Hindustan Times gave them an abject lesson in journalism. The Star went with Jensen Button and Lewis Hamilton 'lead the tributes'. NO they didn't. One remembered him from karting in 1989 and the other had heard of him whilst growing up. They were probably the only names these so called journo's recognised and used them to sex up their story. I and other family members invited them to see the tributes in racer.com so they could copy and paste sensitive and honest reporting by people who KNEW Justin as a man first and a racer second. The work was done for them but they didn't bother. Anyone who met Justin has a personal anecdote of how just how lovely this man was, wether they be a competitor, team mate, industry journalist, fan, sponsor, friend, rival or someone who smiled at him passing in the paddock and got this big beaming smile back. I bet the Star will take his family's money if they choose to insert funeral notices and personal obituaries, which I fervently hope they will not do. I'm certain they will not do.
  8. Oh gosh, this is getting out of hand for silly reasons. I am aware that Basset One has only a basic knowledge of the internet, so to be fair, maybe you are right Medusa, about his lengthy reply being timed out. I don't think Abbyedges was making a personal attack on you, she probably feels strongly that the festival was a huge success for their community and all down to the very hard work and commitment of B1 and his team of volunteers. Perhaps it would be wise to delegate someone else to do your forum postings for next year B1 - alternatively you can make more use of your Facebook page where you can write and respond to whatever you want. I realise you are wanting to inform as many people as you can about what to expect and when and Sheffield Forum is indeed a great medium to get the word out there. Now that the festival is well established, next year it only needs relatively few updates here and you can direct further enquiries to your FB page. From your FB page you can share the information to a whole load of groups that may be interested in attending and your followers can share wider too. We at Save the Children have our own FB page and we shared your event to lots of other groups we network with. To be honest, I think the best bet would be to delegate another person, that is au fait with both the internet and Facebook. Hope you don't mind me sticking my two penn'orth in.
  9. Thank for this, I am thrilled they have already booked for coming years
  10. Just respond in another post like you have here.....
  11. What a brilliant event!! We were first time traders on the day (Save the Children Goes Vintage) and we thoroughly enjoyed it - thank you for all the hard work on so many different levels by you and your team of volunteers. Just a couple of points... could you maybe print out a timetable of events for the music, dogshow and re-enactments as so many people asked us what time certain things were happening. If you charged just 50p for them, this would probably cover printing costs? Also, we heard another stall holder complain that the re-enactors would have cost the organisers at least £1,000 for the day. Now i would imagine that these people are so passionate about their interests and hobbies that they would be glad of somewhere to see and be seen and to participate in any event they can and that they would attend at their own expense. Is this correct? I only ask out of curiosity as i was very impressed by their attention to detail, the costumes and the displays they put on and hope they can return next year. Anyway it was a wonderful day for everyone, you are always going to get moaners no matter what you do. Ignore them.

  13. Thanks for pointing out my shortcomings as a pedestrian and grandparent. If I had any doubt whatsoever that my own granddaughter would not dash into the road, then of course her hand would be held firmly and to suggest neglect is frankly absurd. Are you suggesting that if she were hit by a car driving on the pavement I would be at fault?? That's how absurd your comment actually is. And yes, it's a parade of shops, not a busy high street. It's also opposite a school, so one would expect drivers to be more vigilant in this area to start with. You seem to have totally overlooked the fact that pavements are for pedestrians, not delivery vehicles or people too idle to park up and walk a short distance. If they find it difficult to walk a few yards, one ought to question their ability and reflexes required to drive at all. In which case they should send someone who can walk to the chemist for them. Or have their medicines collected and delivered to them. This is a free service that does not endanger anyone happening to be walking on a pavement in front of a chemist shop. I note that delivery vehicles to the much larger (hence much larger delivery) supermarket on the same block, don't drive over the pavement to the door. As for crossing to other side of the road, why should I? From my house to my local shops, there are no roads to cross at all. Just the car park for the idle selfish people on the corner. It would appear from your comments that you are one of the idle selfish people, otherwise you wouldn't be writing and defending the indefensible.
