  1. Fitkenlike, just to clarify your point, the Sheffield meltshop casts material for rolling in Sweden and Sheffield. The meltshops in Sweden and Finland have enough capacity, but so does every other manufacturer in the world. The ability to use the Sheffield meltshop is unique as it supports the manufacture of long products - eg. rod coil and stainless rebar. These are made in Sheffield. If the future for Sheffield was 'none' as you so say, then that wouldn't explain why we have recently opened a new stainless bar finishing facility on the Europa Link site.
  2. Hi swissheavy, I'm the Internal Communications Manager for the whole group, and have worked on the Sheffield site for over 2 years. On the Europa Link Site/Shepcote Lane, we have several different parts - A melt shop (SMACC) which is the building you see the steam coming from. A large yellow building - this is the Bar Finishing facility - here they do numerous things with stainless steel bar so that it can shipped to customers worldwide. Then there are 3 blue buildings by the M1, these are the Sales 'service centres', and they have processing machines in there which can do all manner of different things with stainless steel coils (like massive toliet rolls of steel) sheets like cutting, polishing etc etc. Then there's some office blocks dotted around too. The stuff you see on the trains are products melted at the melt shop. They could be going anywhere! The company as a group produces stainless steel. I hope this helps!
  3. I would be grateful for any advice you can provide. We have a thermal store heating system and the ball thing on the tank (see picture) is leaking. We have no idea what it is, why it's leaking and if we can get a replacement. It's about the size of a tennis ball and says Zilmet on it, but a google search is fruitless for this particular piece. Please help if you can Click here for picture of ball thing
  4. Lots of black smoke billoughing out but I was on Europa Link so couldn't see what it was, any ideas?
  5. There aren't going to be any extensions in the near future anyway. The money has been pulled to pay for the olympics!!
  6. They won't be affected. They have their own power supply, hence why they can get there during a power cut.
  7. Just rung the helpline, and got through! S1 could go down between 9 and 12 this morning, but is not guaranteed! Helpful!
  8. Sheffield station? Crikey. Can see the fire behind park hill. Anyone know what it is?
  9. There was a public notice in the star earlier this week about creditors and liquidation. Looks like they might be going into receivership.
  10. My other half's there working on it. Looks like they're in for the long haul. Will probably take them a good few hours.
  11. A word of advice... certain mortgage lenders don't like it if you use small solicitors practices with one partner (as a very local solicitor named above is). The practive contracts out some of the work to get past this loophole to another city firm! So they're not necessarily paying all their attention to your matter! Also, I'd like to point out that you reallly do get what you pay for with conveyancing solicitors. My pal has had to call Haybrooks to find out information on his purchase! They were the ones who told him that the sellers had sent to contracts to his solicitors. Small practice named above denied they had them. Poor pal had to make an appointment to see them for progress to get their shop for them to say 'I can't advise you, I'm not a solicitor."
  12. My pal's using a local solicitor named above, and although he's got a good price he's no idea what's happening. No communication about how his matter's going, and they don't seem to want to investigate that the neighbour appears to have built over the boundary.
  13. I think you'll find one of the reasons why the tram is a little unreliable these days is becuase of the bad weather. I should know, my other half is a supertram enginner who has spent most of this weeked out on call pumping water from the drains which the council can't be bothered to clean. Yup, the good old council won't unblock their drains so the tram drains flood, and the trams can't go through for safety reasons. You might be interested to know also that when trams are late and don't run on time Stagecoach get fined. And let's not forget the increas in cars on the roads too. The not so bright spark that planned the tram routes plonked it on too many roads. As the cars build up and block the traffic, the tram suffers too. I may sound like I'm being defensive here, but it's not always the tram's fault.
  14. Have a great time. We went in April 2005. Oh how I miss it. The best italian restaurant I've ever been to is just off Time Square, called Toni Di Napoli's. I agree with the post about visiting the View at the Marriott too. The lifts in the hotel are quite funky too. If the weather's nice when you get there go straight for the ESB, and then go again at night time. Plus, Staten Island Ferry is a must. A foldable pocket map (mine was from Waterstones) is ideal too as you don't look like an idiot walking round with your guide book! Enjoy enjoy enjoy!
  15. So they're not acutally pringle tubes, hence the inverted commas. They are round with little aeriels on top. Loads around hillsborough, and I've seen a couple of new ones crop up on the parkway.
  16. Good luck in your new digs! Me and my fella have just moved house and we're slowly plodding through 'cos the decoration is afwul! Here's where we looked for stuff in our old house, and where we're looking now... Bathstore.com is good for bathrooms, showroom off Abbeydale road somewhere, or the main roundabout next to dominos in Chesterfield. B&Q tend to be a bit pricey. Taps are good buy from ebay or numerous online shops. Click Bathrooms is also pretty good; they have a showroom somewhere in Sheffield I believe. Furniture - Ikea is always a winner, especially if you're prepared to update or change within a couple of years. The move took its toll on some of ours some of it's a bit scratched. No Frills - Bargain left overs from Focus and Wickes (Same plc ya know) Wickes - Good for bathrooms, doors, door furniture, tiles etc. Focus - Tends to be cheaper than B&Q but not necessarily as good choice. MFI- If you dare. Not found anything that doesn't cost a fortune and is better quality than Ikea. Asda - As daft as this sound, Asda (Handsworth) have a catalogue furniture service. They deliver and build it for free too according to the brochure. What more can you ask for! If I think of anymore, I'll post!!! Good luck x
  17. Does anyone know what exactly these cameras are for? If, in fact, they are actually cameras? Are then CCTV to catch the scallies? Or traffic surviellance to make sure the traffic light operatives at the council cause at least 4 hours of gridlock next time someone breaks down on nursery street? Or maybe there's a different explanation? Please help...
  18. thanks guys. Fingers crossed! Let's hope it doesn't all go wrong and I get the sack!!
  19. I need to book a car for one of our bosses for this Thursday evening. I want to make sure it turns up to take them there and back, and book in advance. I ask because some firms have told me I can't book that far in advance. Any recommendations?
  20. Hmmmm although I don't know what ANPR I get the gist, and it's a pretty good reason! Thanks! I'm pleased to say I have both tax and insurance on my car! But there are a lot who haven't and I hope they make them watch the crushing! That'll teach 'em!
  21. Maybe I got out of the wrong side of bed this morning, and everything is annoying to me, but I just wondered... Why was the safety camera van inbound on the parkway this morning? You barely get over 20mph let alone above 50mph. Thanks for letting me vent some bad vibes this morning!
