  1. I worked at Canns in the record dept 1955 to 1957 on Dixon Lane.The record dept was always busy.Miss Hinch was one of the ones in charge and I remember when Elvis Presleys Heartbreak Hotel came in (the demos used to come in weekly and she used to listen to them in the soundproof booths prior to ordering)she declared it a bunch of rubbish and didnt order any.A week later almost every person that came in were looking for that record and she had a long time trying to live that one down.
  2. I went to work at Canns right after I left school in 1954.On Dixon Lane .We used to call it Phillip Cann the music man.Worked in the record dept.
  3. been in Canada since 1967 and still miss Hendersons relish and pork pies.
  4. I remember going to the Denholme st mission lots.I lived on Oborne street.Does anyone remember the song we always sang.?I remember part of it.All are welcome seats are given free Denholme ---Mission is the place to be.
  5. I still cut up mars bars but I keep them in the fridge first.They are still my fave choc.
  6. my mom was the oldest of the Morleys and don,Albert and Mike were the youngest(out of ten)Mike is actually younger than me so they were more like my brothers.We lived on Oborne Street opposite the playground.their mum died when Mike was 4 and the boys spent a lot of time at our house.If you knew them that long ago I am sure our paths have crossed.I was a Gunn.I dont know what it was about potato cakes but they are cheap,easy to make and delicious.I have introduced a lot of Canadians to them and I still make them quite often.bye for now.
  7. hi cornish Rose alias my cousin I tried to reply to your query earlier but couldnt get on to the thread,I have onl been doing this for about a week andstill cant find things that i found the first time.Mike had told me about this site a while ago and he had put some pics on his facebook of Oborne Street and the house we lived in.He told me there is a site with pictures of the playground on but I havent found them yet.love Ol.

  10. Hi the disused railway tunnel was called the fiery jack tunnel accessed by going over the bullrocks from the old hill.In the early days of the war before we had airraid shelters we slept in that tunnel.Does anyone else remember that?
  11. hi falls I went to pye bank from 1943 or 4 till 1951.I remember the downstairs headteacher was Miss Wragg.I remember mr.Fletcher and Mr BrownThe headteacher upstairs was Sydney Speight.He died whilst I was there but I dont remember who replaced him.I see you live in Ontario.I am in Alberta.
