  8. This is the 9th consecutive Woodseats Community Festival, and this year even more of the shops and businesses of Woodseats have joined in to make the Festival a major community event. Linking in with the Yorkshire Grand Depart of the Tour de France, the theme of the Festival is 'Le Tour de Woodseats.' A special new feature to emphasise the theme will be the 'Best-dressed Bicycle' competition. The usual centre piece will be the Parade, starting at Abbey Lane School at 12.00 noon on Sunday 13 July, marching to Woodseats School, with an opportunity for the best-dressed bicycles to be wheeled along in the Parade for judging in the school yard. This will be followed by the Family Fun Day in the school yard, with stalls, stage performances by local groups, food, tombola and games. Again there will be a Craft Fair in the school hall with hand-made goods for sale. We hope to have a visit from a fire engine too. Also new this year, on Saturday morning 12 July, there will be animals for the children to meet on the lawn outside Woodseats Library. On Saturday afternoon in the Library there will be another short story writing class and competition, following the success of this event last year. On Saturday evening at 7.30 pm there will be another free concert in Woodseats Methodist Church by the Woodseats Musical Theatre Company following up their 2014 major production of the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. The Children's Art Competition has already taken place with hundreds of entries and some excellent art work. Look out for samples in woodseats shop windows in the weeks leading up to the Festival weekend. The Festival Raffle should be bigger and better this year, with a huge range of exciting prizes provided by the shops and businesses of Woodseats. Tickets will be on sale in the weeks before, and during, the Festival weekend. Brand new this year is a 'Guess the number of balloons in the car' competition, sponsored by Haybrooks, with a Dambusters flight as the prize. Both Woodseats and Abbey Lane Schools are holding their car boot sales over the weekend too. ---------- Post added 11-07-2014 at 23:20 ---------- The fun starts tomorrow! We have the car boot sale at Woodseats Primary School in the morning 10am - 2pm, thanks to Friends of Woodseats School. 10am - 12.30 we have a selection of animals from Heeley City Farm outside the library on the grass area. 11am - 3pm is St Chads Summer Fair. 1.30pm - 3pm is the writing workshop with fun prompts and the winners of the writing competition will be revealed. 7.30pm - 9.45pm we have a performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie at Woodseats Methodist Church. All events are free to attend for all, so let's celebrate our wonderful Woodseats community. We wish you all a happy festival weekend ... and hope for glorious sunshine.
