  2. oh, the date is the 5th June - Jubilee Bank Holiday
  3. I'm looking for live bands who play 50s rock and roll tunes. I have a budget to work with, but I find individual bands tend to charge their own rates - I'm willing to pay for quality
  4. I'm looking for 50s rock and roll bands for a Diamond Jubilee celebration at a shopping centre near Wakefield ths summer. can anybody reccomend any that would be suitable?

  6. Tune into BBC Radio Sheffield today at 12:30 to hear an interview with Cutting Edge Events, an events company run by Sheffield Hallam students. They are oganising a charity art exhibition networking event which they will be talking about on air today. These students are working super hard to raise money for Barnados charity and are boasting a glittering event which they have organised. I reccomend checking it out, as these guys are the up and comers and are producing some very impressive stuff. They have some fantastic support from the industry and establishd companies and their NetArt event is looking to be a wondeful opportunity to mingle and network. Maybe you would like to come along? http://www.events-in-sheffield.co.uk/event-detail/NET:ART-553 http://www.linkedin.com/osview/canvas?_ch_page_id=1&_ch_panel_id=1&_ch_app_id=2000&_applicationId=2000&_ownerId=0&appParams=%7B%22event%22%3A%22909945%22%2C%22page%22%3A%22event%22%7D&trk=
  7. Try the Montgomery Theatre. Its smack dab in town, just at the top of Fargate and their charges are very reasonable. Plus as a theatre they are used to auditions/rehearsals and the like! http://www.montgomerytheatre.org.uk/
  8. Try Sparkles - they have got a fantastic range of parties! http://www.sparkles-events.com/
  9. I second Sparkles - they have so many different contacts and are really helpful, so would be a good bet to find the best entertainer for your purposes
  10. Hello all! Happy New Year! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Here's your new year update: I have decided to go ahead and have planned a series of workshops to create an underbust corset which can be tailored to your size and style. Could be used for Burlesque outfits, underwear, as part of an outfit etc depending and decorated however you like! I am starting with an underbust as it is a good project to undertake if you are not massively experienced in sewing/pattern making in order to learn techniques which can then be used to tackle other styles of corset. I have been in discussion with the folks at the Nichols Building who are going to provide a lovely inspirational space. Its nice and close to parking/tram routes, very central and is host to lots of creative people. I'm thinking a weekend day, probably a Sunday, would be best so hopefully people are more likely to be free and there will be lots of parking! I'm aiming for early February, as it tends to be a bit of a non-eventful month, so it will give us all something to look forward to! In order to make it easier for people to come (and not worry about transporting equipment) I'm wanting to book the whole day, from 10 til 4. The Nichols Building has a cafe, toilets and sells vintage and handmade clothing, furniture etc so it's a lovely place to spend the day and the extended session length means we can spend more time sewing and less time having to set up and pack away. This also means I can arrange for less sessions, so I'm currently thinking 3 sessions over 3 weeks. The first may be a bit shorter and be focused on designing, context and materials along with a bit of history. This gives us the opportunity to discuss what fabrics and components you would like to use. People can tailor their corsets to their tastes (and purses!), so you could choose and provide your boning, fastening, fabric etc yourself and we can explore the benefits of each different option. The next two sessions will involve learning how to measure yourself, draft a pattern to your size, construct the underbust corset, learn specific techniques such as boning channels and inserting eyelets, finishing and decorating. I am also hoping to be able to offer those involved in the class the opportunity to have a simple photo shoot of your finished corset with a local photographer. I thought this would be a nice finishing touch where you can either get dressed up or just have a shot of your creation to show people/post on facebook (!)etc The Nichols Building is also a perfect setting for taking vintage inspired photos of ladies posing in nice corsets! My preliminary dates are around the 12th/19th of Feb. Does this all sound feasible/interesting to people and will people be willing/available? Im really looking forward to fun and relaxed workshops where people can meet, share interests, make friends and feel free to make mistakes, learn and enjoy themselves Feel free to PM me if you want any more information or to ask any questions!
  11. What is that noise on Langsett Road? Its been going off for the last 10/15 minutes. Sounds like a car horn, can anyone else hear it? It's keeping us awake! *Edit* It's ok, it's stopped! Still don't know what it was...
  12. that sounds a good idea, gikay, thanks, doing 5 hours. Also I agree you are right about how long it can take to set up and get settled. unfortunately i am doubtful that I will be able to get the classes rolling bfore christmas, and was aiming for sometime in the new year. Will keep you updated on new developments!
  13. Hello all. Just to keep you updated, in trying to find a solution to the travel issue, i am thinking it may be better to have longer and fewer sessions. Ie, 3x3hour sessions, rather than 9x1hour sessions. If it can be held in somewhere like the nichols building, then it gives us the opportunity to have a break, grab a cup of tea, and then crack on and get stuck in, rather than wasting time setting up and getting settled. What do people think?
  14. Cheers Medusa. Unfortunately I have already tried to plan round this one and it seems a bit of a sticking point. I feel your friends pain as I also have to rely on public transport and know what it feels like to lug a heavy sewing machine about! I will keep it in mind though when im planning in case i can find a solution to the problem.
  15. glad to know people are interested! im currently drawing up workshop plans at the moment so would love any suggestions. thanks, sophie, im currently liaising with Secrets of the Boudoir Burlesque to bring some sparkle to our cinching. Also love the idea of doing it at the Nichols Building. Will certainly bear that excellent suggestion in mind!
