  1. Hi Paddy, That's exactly where I want to get to. Thanks very much. Wendy
  2. Think it's kind of North East Chesterfield, somewhere off the Chesterfield Road if that's any help.
  3. Does anyone know where Hollingwood is and the best way to get there from Sheffield by public transport? Thanks wendy
  4. I think there is a service which does provide the sort of support you need - I've seen posters about this in my GPs surgery and also on Sheffield's NHS website but blow me if I can find the link now. Sorry about that.
  5. It would be nice to know if anyone's interested in or has decided to take over from ShSheff.
  6. Like unpressurised walks with a bit of a challenge with my preference being to take in the scenery as I amble at my own pace with a few companions. After meeting taxman today to discuss this forum and our role as co-mods, I realised it would be worth mentioning my preference is for small groups of at least 3-4 people with at least 2 women for a spontaneous weekday walk in the country ie, Monday - Thursday inclusive. It would probably be better to send me an email as soon as I get a joint address for taxman and me to use. Thanks to everyone for much appreciated support with this group.
  7. I've actually found that cross-checking the credit reference companies at the same time produces some very interesting results including as JP says, all kinds of discrepancies. I have found they dont bother to send out credit reports for the £2 fee because of the work involved; chasing up is very difficult because their phone lines are congested. This isnt isolated because I've known other people have also had similar difficulties.
  8. Yeast and white flour can also cause these symptoms so it is really well worth keeping a food diary of everything you eat and how you feel afterwards. It does require some discipline and developing a sense of awareness of how you feel after you've eaten. There is a great deal of truth in the saying "you are what you eat" and on observing the effect of certain foods, I just dont want to feel like that any more and simply dont eat them. I cant think of examples to give you an idea of what I mean; some foods make me feel sluggish and downright miserable.
  9. Diet can help with IBS. However, I think you need to see your GP very urgently for a referral to a consultant who can arrange a colonoscopy because your symptoms are definitely not normal. Sorry to say this but if that were me I'd have been knocking at the GPs overnight. There is also an emergency service which you can call and they could refer you if they decided it was necessary.
  10. I dont think it matters where you decide to hold your event, ie Manor or wherever. Have you thought about trying St Mary's Community Centre just across from Moorfoot? I think there's also a church in town somewhere which has meeting rooms cant remember whether they charge but not thinking of the Quaker Meeting House. The Royal Hallamshire has a really very nice restaurant area on D Floor that's extremely unbusy when they've closed down after the lunch hour; I used it for several meetings and it was really quite pleasantly quiet. You could try using Sheffield Uni's or meeting rooms or even Sheffield Hallam's
  11. You could also try Bullets on Sharrowvale Road.
  12. I'd be very surprised if the police were at all interested. They are notoriously not interested in doing very much if they dont have to; if the stuff being dumped is a health hazard you may want to contact environmental health or housing - not sure which. You'd probably need to demonstrate it isnt an isolated incident etc, etc, etc and there's some sort of intent or malice involved before you're likely to see them lift a finger. I'd like to say they're all a bone idle lot but that's not strictly true - they're all so busily in to jobsworth stuff that they havent got time to do their jobs.
  13. How many people are likely to attend? Also what is your preferred location for a venue and how private do you need to be?
  14. Hate to admit this mel, but I've been struggling with this one ever since I saw it late last night. Regret to say it's incomprehensible or have I missed something???
  15. I am very concerned about the symptoms you've described which are not normal and recommend you ask your GP to refer you to a consultant for a colonoscopy because it is not normal. However you wont know for sure until it's checked out properly.
  16. Letter before action is as it's name implies, a letter before instituting legal proceedings. It would seem to me a little unrealistic to expect to pay £40/month for a debt of £600. I entirely agree with depoix's advice to get the CAB to sort it out for your friend because they have got the clout to withstand the thuggery which will undoubtedly follow if she contacts them herself. She should send them a recorded delivery letter as follows: Date Recorded Delivery Address Dear Sir/ Madam Ref: (Reference on letter) Your letter dated xx Aug 2006 refers. Kindly note I have referred matters to the CAB and understand they will contact you as soon as possible. Yours faithfully Miss xx xxx I certainly would not provide any income/expenditure information which will definitely be required if the matter goes to court which is a possibility for this amount.
  17. Unless You Want A Botch Job I Definitely Do Not Recommend Gmt Gas Training
  18. From what I can see there are 2 different issues here, a) whether there's enough interest to start an SF Walking Group and b) going on walks rather than talking(writing) about it.
  19. One way round this may be to take a trusted friend with you to remove any need for reliance on other people.
  20. Having travelled on London Underground this morning I was deeply impressed by the alacrity with which London Transport was able to publish and disseminate airport travel requirements which were only announced this morning. It therefore seems to me that they must have had advance notice of this development before it was announced this morning.
  21. I thought your concerns are entirely valid. I had 3 different, entirely unrelate people in the real world express concerns about personal safety, particularly for women when going off on their own. To put some perspective on the issue this included a Council-employed tourist information officer advising me not to go down the little side streets in Durham's City Centre. I've also had PM exchanges about other aspects of personal Health & Safety issues since my original suggestion on the other thread about a Walking Forum.
  22. In the first instance it may not be worth the time and effort to register as a charity. It may be worth thinking about being a community group or something of that sort because such organisations have greater flexibility over what is required of them. Whether your organisation can be registered as a charity will depend on a range of factors including available funds which have been affected by a change in the rules, ie legislation etc. You will need a constition which has to describe your organisation's aims & objectives, minimum number of people required for a quorate meeting, activities etc. Once your constitution is agreed you can only amend it at a formal meeting - offhand cant remember whether it must be at the AGM or not but that also needs to be set out in your constitution. If applying for funding you will need a bank account with at least 2 co-signatories etc. Initially I would strongly recommend contacting Voluntary Action Sheffieldwhich is very well qualified to advise on your specific needs.
  23. I would to, but something I definitely learned from my recent trip to Bakewell is that I've definitely got a long way to go although I'm working on it rather more slowly than I'd like.
  24. I am simply delighted my recent trip out to Bakewell has stimulated so much interest to the extent that SFusers would like to start an SF Group. I had a really wonderful day which was only made possible by the fantastic advice, comments and suggstions from everyone who responded to my queries and concerns. I've read all the posts with interest on taxman's thread and hope I'm not speaking out of turn but feel an SF Group would be a way for SFUsers to suggest walks, invite people to go along if they wish and general discussions about walks etc. I also think an SF Group needs to be seen as separate from the activity of a group going for a walk or ramble. The SF Group would need stickies about different H&S precautions, eg proper clobber, footwear, safety of routes, level of difficulty so that people dont over extend themselves etc and knowing the people well before going off to the middle of nowhere with them. These are just my thoughts and I'd welcome comments/feedback.
