  1. You wouldn't do it for the simple reason that the supposed threat would not be pointed out to you, the choice would not arise and you missed the point. If WE get it its antibiotics to clear it up why can we not do similar for the dog and do away with the nonsensical treatment whether they have it or not?
  2. The roundworm is more harmful to us than the dog so why is it not us that receives the treatment. Why should the 'fur baby' you love so much be the recipient of chemicals when it's likely to cause nothing more serious than vomitting and diarrohea. It might make sense to treat puppies but after that..... ---------- Post added 15-05-2013 at 21:20 ---------- But you are just as likely to get either and as we outnumber pets is it not more likely that we would aid in infection spread. All we receive is a course of antibiotics there is no periodic drug fed to us.
  3. Maybe I read different literature to most on here then. I do calculate the risks and it isn't at the expense of their lives or discomfort. I view the risks of using certain products a greater threat to their health. Maybe they've been lucky and somehow managed to avoid ingesting eggs on faeces on the walks we take. Maybe the 'herding' scenario is protecting my dogs. Interestingly though the first few hits on this thread were from people who do not worm so it's possible it's a more widespread practice. I think the threat is less than we're led to believe and six years without fleas supports that belief for me at least. ---------- Post added 15-05-2013 at 20:46 ---------- But if you were never told that it was a good idea to do so would you do it? You don't think it's a good idea, it's an industry idea that you fall in line with.
  4. That word 'responsible' gets thrown around a lot on here. Do we have to behave and do certain things before we are considered responsible dog owners now. I'm responsible for rescuing 5 dogs and getting one of them to 13 before she died. I'm now responsible to give the others similar longevity. I'm responsible for putting a tag on their collar also and keeping those whose behaviour is considered unnaceptable on a lead at all times. I'm responsible for looking closely at the merits of raw food over packets and tins endorsed by vets yet it would appear that all of this responsibility pales into insignificance if I dont feed or douse them with chemicals. I find this odd.
  5. We can get worms directly from soil as well though. Hygiene is key in prevention as far as we go.
  6. Do dogs really need much of what we're told they do? If you've only wormed once in 6 years without problems why question it now? In the true tradition of the pet section. Do your research and determine yourself what the dangers are. Try and find unbiased opinion i.e. not vet sites. I don't worm either and this bunch are surrounded by wildlife and farmland.
  7. .........................................................................
  8. Perhaps in these litigous times it's deemed necessary to make the sometimes obvious a little MORE obvious.
  9. In most cases the opposite flow will operate in similar fashion won't it i.e. when you can go so can they. In some cases however it may be that when your side gets the green the opposite side will have one lane remain on red while the inside lane remains green but unless there is traffic showing this to be the case the impression given is that you can turn safely. Remember that the inside lane could be obscured by waiting vehicles in the right hand lane. Yes proceeding with caution is advisable in any circumstance but it's clear that many road users have no savvy hence the need to explain.
  10. Yes it's also why enclosures in zoos are so coveted. Captive animals have humans to look at through the day to relieve their boredom.
  11. I never said I needed reminding. I'm trying to explain to you why such signs are in place. Incompetence or not there would appear to be a need to make people aware thet even when there light turns green they do not have automatic right of way to turn. The opposite flow may well have one lane on red and one lane on green. It may not be so obvious to someone unfamiliar with the road layout for instance.
  12. and "right turners BEWARE oncoming vehicles" ... exactly who needs reminding of that? This is for people turning right at lights for instance who might be under the illusion that they are clear to do so as a right of way where as in fact the traffic moving in the opposite direction is still green for go.
  13. Yes in Pakistan he had a TV series called Jamahl fix it.
  14. Can you not train him to leave the room prior to doing it maybe! ---------- Post added 14-05-2013 at 19:16 ---------- ......and collect the air freshener on his way
  15. Trucks thundering by. Water (puddles, squirty things) Me telling our lad off will see their ears flatten. Things that weren't there on the previous walk. Plastic bags flapping in hedgerows. Sudden loud noises.
  16. .....or the car is pink, though that still might constitute a failing.
  17. What he said. My cousin has his own business and he said that if the first few lines don't cut it the CV is binned. His advice was to be unique, colour it but don't fill it with bull****.
  18. Have a lovely day Fabcakes xx see you next time
  19. Some do yes. It was my prime concern along with a fence that prevented little hands being able to get in. Wouldn't want our dogs getting out neither would I want anyones fingers nipped.
  20. I'm not criticising her or her achievements though am I. The attitude would appear to be directed at me. All I'm trying to put over is that there are opposing views and that regardless of what the postman did it's clear that if the gate can be opened easily then the dogs are not secure.
  21. Then you'll just have to wonder won't you.
  22. If you're referring to me I don't troll I just see things from another angle. You're quick to criticise others including those who are in no position to defend themselves with your endless links from around the globe but not so keen to be on the receiving end. Was it not you on another thread that past judgement on a lady whose GSD x Rottie escaped from her garden to be rehomed. God forbid it wasn't tagged or chipped. We had no facts to work with but as far as you were concerned she was guilty as sin but for all we know someone may have opened the gate or enticed it over the fence. Maybe your postman was at fault, only he knows why he ran. I'll ignore your comment as to why they are not all trained to recognise dog postures. Doubtless this will be erased before you have the chance to read it, I care not. You do pass judgement as do others on here and invariably you have little information to go on.
  23. Good luck defending that ridicuous statement
