  1. His school has a uniform, which is good however they still seem to pick up on other non uniform items such as the bag, the shoes, PE kit, coat etc, all things he's been teased about in the past. Making friendship groups being Autistic is very difficult, he has little understanding for emotions and can sometimes come across quite abrupt and uncaring with things he may say, so although he does make friends they don't tend to hang around for too long.

We are trying to encourage him to be more social, it's a catch 22 situation. He wasn't allowed out at his previous home simply because he was bullied and can not be left unattended for lengths of time due to his lack of understanding of the world around him. This clearly did not work, he and his family were very unhappy so he's come to us to perhaps try a different way of living, we are more social people and are trying to encourage that by letting him out with other children for short periods of time, (he must check back in at home on a hourly basis) however this leaves him in a pretty open situation for the bullies to attack. We just hope if he has an opportunity to make some friends, He's better off in a group than alone.

It's very difficult, the clothing situation may or may not help, but it's a start. If he looks like he may fit in then there's a better chance for him to do so. (Wrong I know, but that's reality with children)

  2. Thank you for your replies, it's much appreciated. We've been shopping together and bought a few bits, yes we got some school trainers from the NIKE shop at Rotherham retail it was the only place we could find plain black trainers.

I will have a look in river island and at the north face stuff too. It's pretty much all new to us, my child is still young enough to wear clothing from where ever without anyone saying anything but teenagers can be so cruel at times and are well aware 'What's in and what's not'

I know I shouldn't be buying top brands just to shut the bullies up but if it gives him a break for a short while just to get settled in and a fresh start, then I'm prepared to do anything.

  3. My partners son has come to live with us. He's 14.

He came with the school clothes he had on his back and we are gradually trying to fill his wardrobe (we already had a few bits and bobs)

He's had a pretty rough few years, struggling with Autism, not fitting in his previous family home or into society in general as he's always seen as 'different' and bullied terribly at school.

So I'm after some advice on 'What's cool, and what's not.'

I don't want to go out buying things that's going to fuel the bullies with more ammunition.

Where do you shop for your teen boy?

  4. You are presuming that all people that visit our hospitals are local people?

We are fortunate enough to have a number of hospitals on our doorstep, should we be ill enough to require them.

Some cancer patients come from miles away for treatment. I couldn't think of anything worse than not only having cancer but to have to sit on public transport before and after immunosupressant therapy with with the likely hood of people coughing and spluttering all over me.

You may have been inconvenienced by 25 minutes but some other people may be inconvenienced by hours and thise that are so ill they require weekly, montly, daily treatments are those that are likely to be out of work and can not afford to use taxis and public transport.

Some people should count themselves the lucky ones!

  5. Do they have some sort of computer to put staff registration in to so they can tell who's staff and who's not ?

Im unsure about staff parking, i went into the bingo hall toilets and there were posters around saying to register your car reg into the computer if you were staying for over the 3 hour limit to prevent a parking fine. Staff also made an announcement just to remind people. It makes sense really, i went shopping a few weeks ago and couldn't get parked in there due to the football goers.

  6. My 10yr old son is desperately trying to get hold of some tennis ball donations for his school. He currently spends his lunch time hour (play leading to gain accredited children's university points) teaching the younger children within the school how to play cricket.

Cricket is a sport he is passionate about and enjoys teaching the other children how to play, however the school is running short on tennis balls, (he uses these as they are softer on the little ones hands etc) and he is really trying hard after school writing donation request letters to companies without much success.

If there's any tennis clubs on here that could possibly donate any new/used tennis balls that are no longer of any use to them he would be extremely grateful and so pleased!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you can help please message me via PM

  7. Id gladly take any unused ones that we could raffle off/ use as tombola prizes or make hampers out of. I would donate them (or any money raised) to Reach Out Childcare in Hillsborough that is a non profit making business that offers free out of school hours activities for disabled/ special needs children! Please PM me if you would like to donate or if anyone else has anything to donate. THANK YOU X

  8. Think we may have to sneak the infant in, we dont plan on spending much time in the caravan as we have a whole load of activities for the children planned so it would be basically just somewhere to sleep/wash in. The only caravans that are available when we are wanting to go are at the opposite ends of the park and we dont really want to have to split the children. If anyone does happen to own a caravan on the site and have access to passes id be really grateful if you could PM me as id happily purchase one from anyone that has one going spare!

    Thank you all

  9. I thought that myself about the insurance however when we explained to Haven about 1 child being in a cot (which they were happy to supply at a cost of £3.50) they didn't seem overly concerned. They certainly didn't mention insurance but just said they didnt sell separate passes and our only other option was to pay for another caravan to sleep 6 people that nobody would sleep in just to get the spare 1 pass. We would however then have 5 spare passes! Doesnt make sense really?

  10. You need a pass to get into the complex in the centre where all the entertainment is. I know that everyone is supposed to have a pass including the infants. Im not sure how eager they are at checking passes and the children would be mighty disappointed if we got all the way to scarborough only to find that one of us cant get into the complex :-/

  11. Can anyone help? We have booked a caravan that sleeps 8 people on this site, however we now have an extra child wanting to come due to unforseen circumstances. One of the children would be an infant so there would be enough sleeping spaces for all 9 of us however we would need an extra pass for an infant to get into the complex! We have spoken to haven but have been told they dont sell extra passes. Does anyone know if passes are provided to people who own the caravans on site where i would be able to purchase one? Otherwise it would mean us paying for 2 caravans in which 1 would not even be slept in?

Thanks for taking the time to read

  12. Thanks for the support, i didnt want to feel like i was taking up a doctors appointment if it was normal or to be expected at the starting point of fitness but seems like i shall have to pay him a visit. I just did 5 mins walking at a slower pace as a kind of warm up gradually increasing speed to the speed i required, should i be doing more? I have kept off it as the knee has been giving me quite a lot of pain since and cant bear the thought of running on it! :-/

  13. Iv just started using a treadmill, not doing strenuous exercise just 30 mins a day doing power walking and started with a pain in my knee, it seems like its slightly swollen like fluid in it and a kind of dull ache just below my knee cap. Is this normal when first starting out? I did dislocate it about 4 years ago but not had any pain from it since? Should i stop training for a while or continue? I dont have any muscular pain anywhere else so dont think i'm over training and especially with it being only half an hour a day! Any help/advice appreciated!

  14. I too 'had' an under active thyroid, mine seemed to correct itself during pregnancy and has stayed pretty normal since!

About your complaint of feeling ill, it could be one of the additives the 'non active ingredients' in the medication you are taking. It may be worth speaking to the doc and seeing if you could possibly get another prescription to try a different pharmacy that uses a different manufacturer!

  15. I will NEVER EVER get in a black cab again unless it's been pre-booked!

After a night out in town with my friend and her other half we decided to jump into a passing black cab to get home.

As it's sensible to try and not leave anyone alone with a total stranger my friends decided they would drop me off home first!

We continued our conversations amonst ourselves in the back of the cab not really taking any notice to the driver as he seemed to know where he was going!

I got home, paid my friends my share of the fare and went into the house and the cab drove off with the other 2 in. After about 10 mins i had a knock on my door, thinking iv left something behind in the cab that my friends were returning (I'v done this several times) i ran downstairs in my nightware opened the door to a weird looking bloke at the door! Oh yes it was the cab driver that had come back to my house after dropping off my friends home to ask if he could come in!!!! My partner heard him from upstairs and came running down and chased him back into the cab where he drove off! I was lucky someone else was in the house or who knows what would have happened!!!

Lesson learned! I had no idea of the company he was driving for as i didn't take notice, it all happened so quickly we didn't get a reg of the cab and i had NO idea what this guy looked like to give a decent description to the police as the only time i saw his face was at the door and i had no glasses on!

This slime ball is probably still doing the same to other people!

  16. Vitamin D deficiency is increasing over here mainly in the Asian communities due to them exposing very little flesh to the sunlight . It was amazing when I worked in pharmacy seeing the different ailments that people presented with depending on what area they lived in. The only person that can advise you correctly when dealing with vitamin supplements is your GP or any other health are worker with access to your medical history. Many people take vitamin supplements without the correct knowledge and will do them more harm than good. Vitamins can react with all sorts of current medications and health conditions

  17. Just a little personal experience i had as a child that thought i knew best!! My mum NEVER allowed me out on my skates as a child without a helmet, i though i knew best one day and removed my helmet once i was out of veiw of my parents (I thought I was much cooler without it) That was until i woke up 4 days later in Barnsley hospital with a huge egg on my head and had been in and out of conciousness for 4 days! Apparently i fell backwards and ended up underneath a stationary cement mixer! The poor bloke had to drive it from over the top of me, hoping i wouldnt wake up in the process just to get me out! Nobody was to blame other than myself, i now have a cyst on my brain that effects my eye sight. I was told wearing my helmet would have prvented the whole thing. A CHILD SHOULD ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!
