  1. What the Clarkson joke incident tells us is how pathetic a nation we have become. In years gone by, we were renoun for our sense of humour, and our british sense of humour got us through some dark days, not least the 2nd world war which helped keep our moral up in the face of adveristy, picture the scene...... "Hitler has only got one ball ...Himlerr....." Whoa whoa whoa, comes the cry from the PC person with no sense of humour, thats sexist, thats offensive to eunochs, thats offensive to hitler etc.... OK, here is another joke.... "what do you call a german soldier who is in a brothel surrounded by sheep....?" whoa whoa whoa.....stop right there, thats offensive to germans, offensive to sheep , offensive to soldiers..... The entire platoon would have quit and surrendered themselves over to the germans. If the german guns did not destroy the morale of the soldiers, the PC miserys certainly would have had our soldiers waving the white flags to the nearest german soldier. ON A SERIOUS NOTE.... Does this incident not show how pampered certain sections of our soceity are? when there is uproar at one of Clarksons jokes? to be fair, I didn't find the joke funny, I found the reaction by many people (the ones who got offended) to be funny. Some people are freezing to death in our country, some people cannot make ends meet, some people are drowning with ever rising costs, and yet, the pampered sections of our society cause uproar, for what is nothing more than a joke. GET A CHUFFING LIFE. As for Jeremy Clarkson, although I don't think he is that talented, I hope his next joke is even more offensive, watching certain pampered sections of our society getting all upset is perhaps the biggest joke of all? Whoa whoa whoa
  2. OK, I been a naughty boy, I got caught doing 79mph on a motorway and now I have a choice. I can go on a speed awareness course or I can have 3 points on my licence. If I go for the speed awareness course it will cost £85, however if I go for the 3 points it will cost £60 and 3 points. On paper it seems the £60 is the obvious punishment, however if I have 3 points does this mean I have to pay more for car insurances premiums? Obviously, we want to keep our household costs down, and the last thing we want is a silly hike in our insurance because of a minor speeding offence
  3. You have to say its a far cry from the strikes of the 70s/80s when the strikers were drinking a cup of bovril to keep warm, or standing near a fire cannister trying to keep warm. The strikers of 2011 hit the high street and were on a spending spree, only taking a rest to fill up on a McDonalds, or a Gingerbread Latte (the 2011 equivalent of warm bovril on the miners picket line) from starbucks. I rekon had the miners back in 1984 hit the shops with their credit cards, instead of standing on the picket lines, the miners strike would not have lasted a month. there will be businesses rubbing their hands at the thought of another strike, hoping and praying for another strike to be called so they can have another spending bonanza, from the very strikers who claim to be poor
  4. The shops were rammed on Wednesday, and many business reported an upturn of 40% in trade. What sort of business are you in and are you hopeing (and praying) for more public sector strikes over the next few months? If we have more stikes it could really boost many small businesses with all the strikers spending money in the shops, so in effect could be very useful for stimulating the economy? perhaps we need a strike once a week?
  5. Yellowstone, Katla and all the others. These will ruin many people's holiday plans if they go off, so I think it would be best if the volcanos erupted now, that way only flights in December will suffer and many people don't go away on their holidays. If they erupt in May/June, then many people's summer holidays will go up in smoke. We have booked to go away in July, so as long as the eruptions take place from August 2012, we won't mind
  6. Has to be a win 3-0 Any other outcome would be obscene
  7. Gary Megson ss the Sheffield Wednesday Manager. May as well leave it, as my nephew keeps going into my account and putting silly statements about me and Gary Megson. Being a Sheff Utd fan, its to make me look a fool. Guess you get those sorts of amusing kicks when you are 15 years old
  8. I think anyone who has got one of the well paid non jobs created during the new labour years would disagree with your statement
  9. Why are the pubs ging to the wall? Beer and Larger One pint of Carling in a pub, up to £3.20 4 cans (pints) of carling from Tescos = £3.99 Alcho pops One bottle of bacardi Breezer = £3.50 4 bottles from Tesco = £3.99 Spirits One Malibu & Coke = up to £4 A full bottle of Malibu + a bottle of Coke, both purchased from Tesco = £12 Theres a clue as to why pubs are closing down
  10. What percentage of these 7% are jobs that run a household and support a family? Before you ask, no I'm not unemployed - if these are part time jobs at 6 hours a week then they are not proper jobs
  11. I think the other issue for those who think that "others should pay the price" is that, although in the short term you may not be affected (if its others that are paying the price) But desperate people are dangerous people, and sooner or later if things erupt then whoever you are, you will be dragged into this. You may not pay the price financially in the short term, but if a political party is able to capitalise of a country of desperate people, then whatever happens can affect us all. Remember the 1930s. Hitler swept to power because the German people became desperate. The wheelbarrows were not large enough to carry the money needed to buy a loaf of bread
  12. So how many people who are calling the Greeks "tax avoiders" would not attempt to avoid paying tax if there were in a desperate situation? Come on everyone, get real - so you find yourself in a desperate situation, you can't pay the bills so you set up a little sideline doing peoples gardens, would you pay tax or would you make sure your family has a roof over their heads?
  13. I disagree that it is your "average" Greeks fault. Like most average people, including here in the UK your priority is to put food on the table and put a roof over your head. If the Government of the day did not support manifacturing, or other wealth creating industrys, then your average Greek could not do what is classed as a productive job. If the job on offer was an odd public sector job and the role was a "coffee bar drinker", and the salary was 20k per annum, and your average Greek got that job, like most of us he or she would take that role. The average Greek can only do the work that is available. The country was ran by the polititians/the political class and they sent the country down the path that has ended up with this mess. I personally feel these people are happy to commit the average Greek to a life of hell, while they get away scot free saying, claiming they are "taking tough decisions". These people taking the "tough decisions" will not be the ones to lose there homes. These people remind me of the armchair generals, the ones who believe that we must go around the world standing up to dictators (we have a duty), as long as someone else is doing the fighting/or dying. With regards the 'living within your means' argument. YOu can only cut back so far, if you need £1000 a month just to pay for the essentials in life (food, gas, rent, council tax, petrol, insurance etc....) then if you take too much of a pay cut you will lose everything. Also, lets not forget Greece are now having to put up with increased taxes - how many average British people could cope with an increase in tax? Also in Ireland, wasn't the national minimum wage cut to something like £5.40 an hour (I don't know the exact figure). I personally would not like to run a house on that wage. Austerity - we are all in it together. Its like a ladder where everyone has to take one step down and the ladder leads into a river swarming with crocodiles, the political class at the top of the ladder are happy to take one step down, the average person who is at the bottom of the ladder is pooping his pants, because one step down and he is history
  14. Why would you lose your home? Well if your outgoings (mortgage, bills etc..) come to say £1400 which these days is not far out, and you had a job that paid £1600 a month after tax. If because of the austerity, you had to take a pay cut to £800 a month, or you lost your job and benefits were £200 a month (benefit paymenst could be cut), yet you had to find £1400 a month, then you would quicky go into debt. You would then lose your home
  15. We are seeing the average Greek rejecting the austerity measures, as for them it is absolutely certain to mean a reduction in living standards, however for many they will pay the ultimate price and are likely to lose their homes, plus everything they have worked for in life. The political class (plus many average brits) say we are all in this together and as the Greeks have been living beyond their means, they should suffer from whatever fallout comes from austerity. Is that fair for the average Greek, who went about his everyday life, earning a living, when the people who were the the root cause of the problems (the political class) seem to be getting away scot free. These people (the political class) believe that the average Greek should take the pain squarely on the chin, whilst they continue their cosy life, while their fellow countryman have his/her life destroyed. If you were a Greek, or come the time when we face austerity, will you welcome these packages of massive cuts? Or will it be a case of - "yes, i fully support the austerity measures, provided my own family are not threatened by the consequences) or will you... Happily lose your home leaving your family destitute?
  16. Thanks - the picture has gone (teens ) To be honest, I can't see any of the Sheffield teams going up, can see UNited getting to the finals, but making a hash in the last minute and losing 1-0
  17. Potential banana skin for the Blades? hope not. I'll go for 2-2 (how do I get rid of the owls picture, its been added to my profile by my nephew)
  18. I think Huddersfield will be the champions. (Can anyone tell me how to get rid of the owls picture at the side, my teen nephew has somehow put this picture onto my profile)
  19. A word of warning for supporters of this scheme. Haven't the schemes in other areas found the charges to have increased by over 100%? Although £35 a year sounds a good deal, do you think that the cost will go up by 2% each year? If these schemes get rolled out to other areas, these could be as bad council tax in many years to come
  20. Utter garbage lee79 Its the compensation hunters that are putting up the insurance prices. Well you lot, I hope when the time comes and you choose to do the right thing, that you don't end up paying for years to come. The bottom line is, for the sake of a minor dint (which I was on the recieving end of) if it was a choice of paying an extra £1000 a year on my premiums and losing my no claims bonus (and the additional insurance premiums for years to come for a minor accident), and making sure the kids were fed and all the bills were paid, I can guarantee that I would be sure the £1000 that would be paid in insurance fees, would be money spent on food. No I don't feel guilty about that. I expect the person who dinted my car felt the same way. Yes, I was hacked off initially, but in the cold light of day, I would have done exactly the same thing - drove off My insurance went up 40% this year and thats despite having 15 years without ever claiming
