  1. Please excuse me ! ---------- Post added 01-04-2013 at 22:07 ---------- The Fortunes were extremely popular abroad !
  2. I don't quiete understand what you mean. I only meant to say in America there is another group calling themselves The Fortunes but they were forced by court to change this "protected" name into John Washington's Fortunes. Ofcourse i do prefer the original Fortunes from Brum, but since Baz and Rod passed away a lot has changed. Although Eddie Mooney isn't a bad singer he doesn't have the characteristic and impressive voice Rod had. Rod was ever chosen as the best singer of the Sixties.
  3. ---------- Post added 10-03-2013 at 23:53 ---------- [/color] As far as i can recall you're right and there still is an American band calling themselves John Washington's Fortunes playing Fortunes songs.
  4. I have met almost every British band from the Sixties except The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The Kinks is the first British popgroup i met wayback in May 1965. The Hollies is the last British band i met a few years ago. It was a very impressive happening to see The Shadows in concert. Cheers, Sean
  5. Rod Allen singer and founder member passed away in 2007 and he was the last of the original members. Glen Dale, Andy Brown, Shell Macrae and George McAllister are still alive. Sean
  6. Last year Dave Carr (first line-up) passed away. He lived in America for many, many years and he played with famous artists such as The Ventures
  7. The Fortunes is a Birmingham based group. Rod and Barry the founders of The Fortunes were schoolmates at the Moseley Grammar school in Birmingham. After school the both of them made music and one of the first songs they could play was Wabash Cannonball. Later they attended The Reg Calvert Popschool at Clifton Hall in Rugby. Reg Calvert owned this popschool and he had several artists and groups in his stable. Reg also was the owner of Radio City. Clifton Hall was the place were Richard Garforth a.k.a. Glen Dale started singing together with Rod and Barry. Later on they were completed by David Carr and Andy Brown. Sean
