  1. Wasn't aware of it's existence up until a few days ago so had to take a pic. Makes you think so that can't be bad
  2. Bob Dylan played the Gaumont Theatre as part of his World Tour in May 1966. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Dylan_World_Tour_1966 Time Life photos have an interesting image of him posing outside LSD Partners Betting Office. http://content.time.com/time/photogallery/0,29307,1812373_1721126,00.html Does anyone know where it was ? I've got a feeling it might have been on Cambridge Street. MrIan
  3. Strange sometimes you look but you don't observe. Sat having a Pint in the **** Inn at Oughtibridge yesterday evening I noticed that there's still a functioning Belisha Beacon crossing at the bottom of Bridge Hill. Later I noticed the one at the bottom of Carr Road in Deepcar. So, out of interest how many are still left in Sheffield ? I thought the Pelican crossing and unpainted zebra crossings were pretty much now the norm. MrIan
  4. There used to be Strippers on at the Bierkeller almost every lunchtime in the late 70's early 80's
  5. Hello Sedgie, Thanks for taking the time to reply I went to a couple of the Society's meetings in 2011 and hopefully will do so again - bit remote at the moment. Google Earth appears to show just a space where the Hall was. Surprised nothing has been built considering some of the things which have appeared further down the valley. Ian
  6. Northern Germany - hanging on in case the Euro crashes
  7. DVD mentioned earlier in the thread. It's on Ebay right now Steel Town-Stocksbridge 1950s life in SouthYorkshire UK http://www.ebay.com/itm/Steel-Town-Stocksbridge-1950s-life-SouthYorkshire-UK-/380397195479 There's a short clip embedded on the page. Interesting stuff Ian
  8. Got 5 posts under my belt on SF now so I can post a selection of links Visit from the 5th Earl in 1987. Lewiston Journal http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=-Y5GAAAAIBAJ&sjid=pPIMAAAAIBAJ&pg=4612,3549940&dq=4th+earl+of+wharncliffe&hl=en The 4th Earl left a tidy sum Glasgow Herald http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=3zNAAAAAIBAJ&sjid=T1kMAAAAIBAJ&pg=2073,671822&dq=4th+earl+wharncliffe&hl=en Gravesite at Wortley Marriage to Aline Margaret Bruce in 1957 Peerage http://thepeerage.com/p6175.htm#i61749
  9. Broomhead Hall which stood at the at the head of Ewden valley is unfortunately long gone. The story was that the stone was exported to America. I've always wondered if this was true and if so does anyone know where it ended up ? A couple of Flickr image links http://www.flickr.com/photos/10808818@N07/1341043723 Ian
  10. Lovely walk and beautiful scenery but unfortunately not much to see of the circle itself.
  11. Stopping me from posting links but a Google Newspaper archive throws up quite a few U.S. stories from 1987 about the succession. search?q=earl+of+wharncliffe+wortley&hl=en&tbs=ar:1,sbd:1&tbm=nws An image of the family graves in Wortley Churchyard Flickr No. 6090187524 Ian
  12. Quite a while passed since the original thread. It appears most banks are now cutting out the service
  13. I was out taking pictures in Sheffield yesterday on Arundel Gate and I noticed the O2 Academy name on what I can remember as the Top Rank. So I wondered how many different names and lives it's had over the years - More than the average cat me thinks ? MrIan
  14. It's not usual in Britain - security worries. The ones you get in Las Vegas sometimes have a hole or the corner cut off.
