  1. I went out of the house at six o'clock this morning and couldn't believe my eyes. Next doors landrover defender, parked on the road, had had all it's doors and bonnet stolen. They'd also taken the LED bulbs out of the lights, but left the light fittings themselves. They'd been in the glove box and taken the GPS but left an expensive pair of binoculars. Talk about brazen. Anyone driving down the road would have seen them at work. It must have been between midnight last night and 6am this morning. This is the Rushley area of Dore. If by any chance anyone has seen anything or anyone with Landrover doors and bonnet please pm me.
  2. My cataracts were getting pretty bad so the GP referred me to the eye clinic at the Hallamshire. There was a 10 week wait. They did the necessary tests and the consultant recommended replacement lenses. The op takes about half an hour. They put drops in to anaesthetise and a gadget to stop you blinking and you really don't feel a thing. Things were a bit blurry the first day but the next day the result is unbelievable. The most striking thing is the brilliance of colours. I hadn't realised how bad my eyes had got until I had the op. I don't need glasses for reading or distance. More or less by accident I've now got long sight in one eye and short sight in the other. Nothing was ever said about money. I just presumed it was like any other op on the NHS.
  3. I had new artificial lenses put in my eyes on the NHS. The first eye, the surgery was done at Claremont, although it was on the NHS and cost me nothing. The second eye was done in the Hallamshire. It was obvious the equipment in the Hallamshire was more modern and superior to Claremont. Both op's were a great success. I know before you've had it done you think how can they operate on your eyes under a local anaesthetic. But I can assure you you don't feel a thing. Go for the new lens surgery.

  5. I'm certainly no fan of Blair, but to compare and put him on par with Hitler is just plain ridiculous.
  6. Sergeant Pepper, by a mile

  8. Very well put, Easter Sundae. I agree 100%
  9. According to the Daily Mail link in post 408 the BBC had just TWO complaints about Clarkson saying there was a slope on the bridge. This show has about 10 million viewers around the world. It reinforces the criticism that the BBC has two many executives with not enough to do to spend so much time on this. In my post 383 I said I'd never heard of this insult before. To take notice of 2 complaints out of an audience of millions is daft. Right now I'm listening to a repeat of The Burkiss Way on Radio 4 extra where the comedy sketch is based around someone trying to buy a copy of Gay Boy Weekly. I should have thought they'd get at least 2 complaints about that.
  10. Am I the only person who didn't know "slope" is a derogatory word? I saw the program where they'd just made the bridge and he said "there's a slope on it" I thought he meant it wasn't level. Now, thanks to the BBC I'm informed it means more than that. Should I be belatedly upset by it? I wonder how many other words there are around that I don't know are impolite?
  11. Is there a live internet feed from this inquest?
  12. I'd recommend a Vauxhall Astra van. I get mine from British Car Auctions at Brighouse. Last one was £3,500 for a year old with 46k miles on the clock. That was 2007. Now has 98k on the clock and never had any trouble with it.
  13. To the OP Definately plead not guilty. Go to court and say your piece If you can convince the magistrate you're OK. But it won't be easy. You've condemned yourself out of your own mouth. All you had to do was tell the guy the man he wanted had moved out, and you'd only just moved in. Thank you very much, goodbye.
  14. Any one with a computer can listen to LBC. And it was on the BBC news channel. Farage won the debate hands down, which wasn't too difficult as he says what the vast majority think, as opposed to the rest of them who are scared stiff of being called racist.
  15. The idea of EU sanctions on Russia is a joke. You've only to look at the opening credit sequence on Have I Got News For You. The Russian with a big grin on his face turning off the tap on the pipeline and all the lights going out. See how long an EU government will stick that out.
  16. There was a case at Rotherham hospital a few years back when a woman in labour arrived in the night. They had the double sliding door system and she got stuck in them. The inner door wouldn't open. She ended up giving birth between the two doors. At least that shouldn't happen with a revolving door.
  17. I'm confused by this thread. The joke is that two of them ARE bin bags, and he congratulated the adult on her three beautiful children.
  18. The lights on the pedestrian crossing next to this bus stop by Dore station are more dangerous than no lights. At eight o' clock in the morning traffic is continuous in both directions. I'm frequently waiting at the bottom of Dore Rd for two gaps in the traffic to coincide. This usually takes several minutes. I've seen pedestrians press the button on the lights and then have to wait for ages for the lights to change. One morning a man had been waiting a long time and then saw the train coming he wanted to catch and so made a dash for it. The car drivers seeing a green light kept going. How they missed him I don't know. I rang the council about this saying the lights should change as soon as the button is pressed, but they said the lights have sensors so they don't change until there's a gap in the traffic. If they changed straight away they might cause a car to brake suddenly and cause an accident. This defeats the whole object of the lights. If there's a gap in the traffic you can cross anyway. If there are no lights sooner or later a driver will let a pedestrian cross, but when there are lights on green no car will stop.
  19. Is the Wednesday Charlton match on any TV channel?
  20. Tesco should vary the times when they put the reductions out. Do some in the mornings.
  21. The extreme danger of a missing panel is obvious. i'd have expected him to have had at least one spare on hand at all times for immediate replacement.
  22. Surely the people responsible for it closing are the yobs who burnt it down and stole the electric motors.
